Solid-state battery maker Factorial secures another big partnership
Solid-state battery specialist Factorial Energy is teaming up with Mitsui Kinzoku, one of the few companies producing sulfide-based solid electrolytes, to scale up the promising new technology.
US-based Factorial Energy has been at the forefront of solid and semi-solid-state battery development.
Through its proprietary FEST (Factorial Electrolyte System Technology) and Solstice platforms, the company aims to solve one of the biggest hurdles in commercializing solid-state batteries: Scalable manufacturing.
After announcing its new partnership with Mitsui Kinzoku, Factorial CEO Siyu Huang said, “Batteries are a key technology for realizing an electrified society,” but added, “Significant technical challenges still remain.”
Mitsui Kinzoku is a leading producer and one of the few with sulfide-based solid electrolytes for all-solid-state batteries.
Factorial Energy surges after signing joint battery development deal with Mitsui Kinzoku
Factorial Energy FFAC jumped 14.4% in Thursday's trading after saying it will partner with Japan's Mitsui Kinzoku to accelerate the global scale-up of its Solstice all-solid-state battery platform.
Mitsui Kinzoku produces sulfide-based solid electrolytes for all-solid-state batteries and is one of few companies worldwide with foundational technology in this space, and produces ultra-thin copper foil, holding an estimated 90% share of the semiconductor market for that foil, Factorial FFAC said.
"By leveraging Mitsui Kinzoku's long-established expertise in materials and manufacturing technologies and combining it with Factorial's advanced technological capabilities, we aim to accelerate the realization of next-generation batteries," Mitsui Kinzoku Senior Executive Officer Kiyotaka Yasuda said.
