Man City vs. Arsenal live updates: Haaland gives City second-half lead

Manchester City and Arsenal meet at Etihad Stadium on Sunday in a Premier League title showdown that could go a long way toward deciding this season's champion.

The Gunners sit first in the table with 70 points, holding a six-point lead over City with a handful of matches left in the campaign.

Mikel Arteta's side is looking to protect its advantage on the road against a City side that has found its best form at the right time. Anything but a loss will be a great result for the visitors.

City enters Sunday's showdown having not lost a league match since mid-January, closing the gap on Arsenal to six points with a game in hand.

Norwich are through to the fifth round of the FA Cup after a well deserved win over West Brom.

Man City 2-0 Salford City (15 Feb, 2026) Game Analysis

Manchester City reached the fifth round of the FA Cup with a far-from-convincing 2-0 win over League Two side Salford on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola's side thrashed their neighbours 8-0 last season but needed an early own goal from Alfie Dorrington and a late effort from Marc Guéhi to prevail on this occasion at the Etihad Stadium.

Yet City, who made nine changes for the tie, did not need to be anywhere near their best.

Dorrington's unfortunate sixth-minute intervention robbed the contest of a lot of its intensity and City effectively went through the motions thereafter.

That did allow Salford to settle and former Liverpool midfielder Ben Woodburn forced a fine save from James Trafford before the interval.

'Who are ya?! Who are ya?!' – Man City boss Pep Guardiola hilariously explains the unique reason he 'loves' the FA Cup ahead of Salford City showdown

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed just why he loves the FA Cup as he prepares to face League Two side Salford City in the fourth round of the competition on Saturday. The 55-year-old, who has won the competition twice with Manchester City, has revealed he 'loves' the atmosphere generated by fans of lower-league clubs and the chants that fill their stadiums.

City welcome League Two's Salford to the Etihad Stadium as the two teams face each other for the second consecutive season in the FA Cup. Guardiola's men romped to an 8-0 win over Salford in the third round of the competition last season and would surely love a similar result on Saturday afternoon. Speaking ahead of the game, Guardiola has revealed his love for the FA Cup and revealed just what makes the competition so special for him.

45 min: Two minutes added on. Manchester City have certainly had the better of the half, registering 10 shots. Liverpool have not faced more than that in any first half this season.

44 min: Liverpool claim for a penalty! From the resulting free-kick, Ekitike meets the cross, nodding back across goal. At the back post, Salah flails and falls to the ground, with Bernardo Silva looking a little guilty. Replays show that the Portuguese briefly had a hold of Salah’s shirt, but there wasn’t enough in it for a foul.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot explains how his side are planning for life post Virgil van Dijk with signings like Jeremy Jacquet. (2:07)

A blockbuster clash is in store at Anfield on Sunday with Arne Slot's Liverpool hosting Pep Guardiola's Manchester City. The two teams are not in a direct title race, as has been the case over the last few years, but it's a match with plenty of talking points and the result can have lasting repercussions for the remainder of the season.

Both teams have not been in great form, winning just once in the last six games in the league. Manchester City cannot afford to drop more points as they are in the title tussle with leaders Arsenal while Liverpool will need the victory to bolster their chances of securing a top four spot.

Also going on, a match between Elina Svitolina and Mirra Andreeva that could be brewing into a classic. Katy Murrells has you covered:

We’ve seen that, domestically teams often double-up on Bukayo Saka, and Arsenal have failed to score in their last two league games. United won’t do that, but they will probably play Patrick Dorgu, a left-back, at left-wing, and he has the engine and speed to get up and down the flank. Perhaps the main criticism of Arteta’s outfit is their lack of top-class attackers – shut down Saka and they can struggle – but nevertheless, it’s hard to look past their midfield power and set-piece prowess as the keys to this contest.

Michael Carrick: Man United have 'great foundation' before Arsenal 'challenge'

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

Michael Carrick previews Manchester United's trip to Arsenal, and reacts to the news that Casemiro will leave the club at the end of the season. (1:14)

Michael Carrick is prepared for a "big challenge" at table-topping Arsenal but says there is a quiet confidence around Manchester United after last weekend's derby triumph.

The former Red Devils midfielder, captain and coach enjoyed a fine start to life as head coach by masterminding last weekend's impressive 2-0 win over Manchester City.

United deserved to win by a greater scoreline and take the confidence from that surprise success to north London, where a clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal awaits on Sunday afternoon.

Before every game at Emirates Stadium, Martin Odegaard lifts the lid on the mood in the camp via his captain’s notes published in the matchday programme.

Ahead of today's game against Manchester United, Martin writes about the ebbs and flows of the title race, what the squad get up to on their travels and understanding the history of our rivalry with United. Here is a snippet:

Our last league game was away to Nottingham Forest last Saturday, and that turned out to be a frustrating afternoon for us. We weren’t at our best on the day, and of course we wanted to take advantage of the other results. We gave everything for the win, but it wasn’t to be. I think we created enough to score the goal we needed, while also not giving them anything at all at the other end, but we know we could have done a lot better there. On those occasions, you need to be able to do enough to squeeze the win from your performance, and we can improve on that. So it’s frustrating we didn’t take the three points, but at the same time we take the point and move on. Looking at that weekend overall, we gained a point on the teams around us, so that’s the positive side. It you look at the results in the Premier League over the past few weeks, it’s a great example of what we say a lot – anyone can take points from anyone in this league. It’s why you can’t afford to let your standards drop for a single moment.

Manchester United kick off the new Michael Carrick-era with the small matter of the Manchester derby as Arsenal-chasing Manchester City arrive at Old Trafford looking to keep up the pressure on the Premier League table toppers. You can follow it all live, right here with ESPN (the blog will appear below the short preview text).

The last time Michael Carrick took charge of Man United, they beat Villarreal, drew Chelsea and beat Arsenal but that was four and some years ago, and what's ahead of him is a whole different proposition. United are coming off the disastrous reign of Ruben Amorim and find themselves out of both EFL and FA Cups and need a proper top 4 challenge to salvage the season. On contract only till this summer, Carrick's task is multifold: help with that challenge, lift the mood at Old Trafford, and integrate United's academy players into the senior team in a way Amorim never did. He was often accused of tactical inflexibility at Middlesborough — where he started brightly before fading towards the end — and he'll be keen to redress that at a club that, as Amorim found out, demands at least a certain degree of flexibility.

Manchester City player ratings vs Exeter City: Antoine Semenyo is up and running! £65m signing scores and assists as Pep Guardiola's youthful side score TEN in incredible FA Cup rout

Manchester City opened up their FA Cup campaign with a barely believable 10-1 victory over Exeter City in the third round on Saturday. Antoine Semenyo scored and assisted on his debut for the Cityzens, while youngster Max Alleyne also netted his first goal for the club, as Pep Guardiola's side swept aside their League One opponents at the Etihad Stadium.

In the first-ever meeting between the two sides, Exeter were almost in dreamland when defender Ed Turns rose highest inside the penalty area, but his header was well-saved by City’s cup goalkeeper James Trafford after five minutes.

After overcoming the scare, City soon took the lead when centre-back Alleyne, who only made his debut for the club in Wednesday’s Premier League draw with Brighton and Hove Albion, bundled the ball home after a goalmouth scramble just seven minutes later.

Antoine Semenyo, it seems likely, will soon join Manchester City from Bournemouth for a fee of £65m. Given how well Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden have played from the right this season, it is not immediately obvious why City need him, but the modern game is the modern game, the rammed calendar makes large and flexible squads essential and Pep Guardiola may have some esoteric plan for the Ghanaian anyway. But perhaps what is most striking about the deal is the fee – or, more precisely, how little attention it has drawn.

English football has become inured to big transfers. The fee feels about right. Semenyo is 25. He has four and a half years left on his contract. He is quick, skilful, intelligent and works hard. He is disciplined, but has the capacity to do the unexpected. Of course a player of his ability costs that much. Yet £65m would make him the third-most expensive player in Bundesliga history. He would be the seventh-most expensive in Serie A history, the 14th-most expensive in La Liga history. Only nine non-English clubs have paid a fee higher than that. Even in Premier League terms, Semenyo sneaks into the top 25.

Manchester City welcome Chelsea to the Etihad Stadium in one of the standout fixtures of Gameweek 20 in the Premier League. City, currently second in the league table, are aiming to maintain their title challenge and bounce back after being held to a 0–0 draw by Sunderland in their last outing.

The Cityzens’ overall form has been excellent this season — unbeaten in their last nine matches across competitions, with eight wins and one draw. They have one of the league’s most potent attacks – having scored 43 goals so far – largely thanks to Erling Haaland’s contribution. Pep Guardiola’s side are not just prolific in attack, but they also have a strong defensive record alongside leaders Arsenal, making them favourites at home against Chelsea.
