FFOS LAS RACECOURSE: Preview and tips for Thursday’s six‑race meeting

This can be fought out by the pair of last time out winners Laylaty and Downonmainstreet. The former’s handicap debut victory has been boosted and she’s only four pounds higher so has to be respected and is marginally preferred to the latter.

Her penultimate placed effort has been franked and she is potentially thrown in on her handicap debut judged on her cosy all the way win last time. The longer trip is no issue and she should be tough to peg back on favourable fast ground.

Course winner Tango Hotel arrives in form having proven her stamina for 6f and her ability on fast ground last time so is feared.

'We need these people': Mark Webber hits F1 between the eyes with message backing Max Verstappen

Australian F1 legend Mark Webber has thrown his support behind Red Bull's Max Verstappen, urging the Dutchman to remain in the sport to safeguard its global momentum.

Webber, notoriously quiet in the public eye since retiring from Formula 1 in 2013, has maintained a close relationship with the Red Bull camp for over a decade.

However, the 49-year-old had lots to say about Red Bull's current champion, the "Verstappen effect" and the hole his retirement from the sport would leave.

Verstappen frustration grows amid difficult 2026 season – Despite a modest upturn in form at the Miami Grand Prix, Verstappen’s 2026 campaign has fallen well short of expectations. The reigning four-time world champion has struggled to adapt to the new generation of cars and has repeatedly voiced concerns about their drivability and the sport’s overall direction.

His dissatisfaction has not been limited to performance. He has openly questioned whether he still enjoys competing under the current rules, describing the experience as far removed from what he values in Formula 1.

According to a report in the Dutch publication De Telegraaf, these frustrations have prompted the Dutch driver to consider retiring from the sport at the end of the season. This has sent shockwaves through the paddock, given Verstappen’s status as one of the defining drivers of the current era.

Meta just told staff it isn't ruling out further layoffs

Meta plans to lay off around 10% of its staff next month, and it told staff it's not ruling out deeper cuts.

That's what Janelle Gale, Meta's chief people officer, told employees in an internal meeting on Thursday, according to three sources on the call.

"Will there be more layoffs? The question always comes up. I'd love to say that there are no more layoffs, but I can't say something we can't deliver," Gale said during the meeting. "While the business is strong, priorities change, competition is fierce, and we will continue to manage our costs responsibly."

She said this means that Meta will "continue to evolve teams as needed" and "try to redeploy talent." She pointed to how Meta is investing in its Applied AI organization.

Mark Wahlberg remembers Penny Marshall's career-changing advice: 'This white rapper thing isn't working'

Mark Wahlberg is looking back on how late actor-director Penny Marshall, whom he encountered when he appeared in her 1994 Renaissance Man, affected his career.

Wahlberg says Marshall told him he was destined to be an actor because he was already playing a rapper.

She let Wahlberg stay with her in L.A. while he was working on the transition from model/musician to actor.

There's a reason "Good Vibrations" rapper Marky Mark cut loose from the Funky Bunch and became two-time Oscar nominee Mark Wahlberg. And it had everything to do with late actress and director Penny Marshall.

Mark Irving KC — who was appointed administrator of the CFMEU in 2024 amid revelations of widespread corruption, criminality and violence — has tendered his resignation.

He commissioned multiple investigations into the union, removed hundreds from their positions and has received death threats.

The ongoing commission of inquiry into the CFMEU in Queensland resumes this week.

The senior barrister appointed to clean up Australia's scandal-plagued construction union has resigned, after leading it through what the administration has called "the most challenging period in the union's recent history".

Mark Irving KC was appointed as administrator of the CFMEU in August 2024 amid revelations of widespread corruption, criminality and violence within the institution.

The senior barrister appointed to clean up the corruption and crime-tainted CFMEU, Mark Irving, has quit in a major challenge to the Albanese government’s attempts to reform the sector.

His departure comes two months after he launched an internal investigation into the treatment of two women by his former second-in-charge, national secretary Zach Smith, whose own sudden resignation from the CFMEU in January came amid serious disclosures from the two women.

Irving’s resignation as administrator is the most serious challenge to face Labor’s reform plan for the scandal-ridden union while fending off opposition calls for the CFMEU’s deregistration or a royal commission, including into the union’s abuse of its power on taxpayer-funded building sites across the nation.

Mark Wahlberg Declares He Won't 'Force' His Faith on Kids in Rare Religious Statement: 'Hopefully They See It Really Works'

Mark Wahlberg doesn't want to push his own belief in God on children.

In an interview with an outlet at the premiere of Balls Up on Tuesday, April 14, the actor, 54, shared, "I’ve only tried to be an example to my kids and not force my [Catholic] faith on them."

LIVIGNO, Italy — Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris said he's "coming around and starting to feel like myself again" after suffering a concussion and pelvic injuries during a nasty fall in training on the big air course before the Milan Cortina Olympics started.

In an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday, McMorris said he lost consciousness when he fell eight days earlier during training for the contest that opened the action at Livigno Snow Park last week.

"We've been doing a lot of different tests and taking all the necessary steps to make sure I'm in good shape," he said. "I'm thankful to have passed all those tests and, at the end of the day, to be feeling good and feeling confident to get back out there."

Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo: We're like a couple of naughty school kids

Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo are no strangers to sharing the screen, having previously starred together in Marvel films such as Thor and Hulk.

Now the pair have reunited for a very different type of film.

They are starring alongside each other in Crime 101, a tense thriller that swaps superhero spectacle for a game of psychological cat and mouse.

Speaking at the premiere, Hemsworth told the BBC that their long-standing friendship brought both energy and challenges to the set.

"The two of us get together and we're like a couple of naughty kids at school that need to be wrangled to be focused," he said.

‘Crime 101’ Director Bart Layton On His Stellar LA-Set Crime Drama

Bart Layton made his feature debut in 2018 with American Animals, a great hybrid true-crime story that used doc techniques to tell the story of a supposedly victimless art heist that went terribly wrong. It had a mixed reception at the US box office, largely because American audiences felt the film didn’t offer a very flattering portrait of its country’s youth. “I’m not sure as many people saw it as I would have loved,” Layton admits. “But what was kind of surprising about that film was that I guess — certainly for actors — it was admired. And so, I guess they loved it enough to want to connect with me and work with me.”

Almost Everyone Looked Good at the “Crime 101″ UK Premiere

This movie looks terrible — Hems is a jewel thief, there are chases, Halle Berry is there, if it were 10 years ago, I’d def watch on a plane — but at least we get to see Barry Keoghan here with his Ringo Starr hair. Spoiler: IT LOOKS INSANE. I am, on a related note, bummed that the makers of this film’s trailer did not take the opportunity to point out that every single person in this movie either has an Oscar, or is an Academy Award Nominee other than Chris Hemsworth. (No offense to the Hems, who seems like a good dude.)
