She bought a Fiat Ducato van on Facebook Marketplace from a man who had registered it in his name, but it was owned by someone else.

A Tasmanian woman lost $10,000 after buying a van on Facebook Marketplace
Liann Roni, a resident of the town of Port Sorell in northern Tasmania, lost about $10,000 after purchasing a Fiat Ducato van on Facebook Marketplace, which was later impounded. According to ABC News Australia, she paid $9,000 for the vehicle in April and spent an additional $1,000 on registration and modifications.
Before the purchase, Roni checked the vehicle’s registration status in Tasmania. The records showed that the van was registered to the seller, 41-year-old Michael John Bowerman, and had not been reported stolen. After a test drive, she purchased the vehicle, but, according to her, after just one trip, error messages appeared on the dashboard and the van broke down.

Tasmanian Buyer Seeks Repayment After Stolen Van Sale
According to ABC News, Port Sorell woman Leanne Roney is trying to recover $10,000 after she unknowingly bought a stolen Fiat Ducato van through Facebook Marketplace in April.
Ms Roney paid $9,000 for the van and spent another $1,000 on registration and upgrades. She said she completed a Tasmanian Vehicle Registration Check, which showed the vehicle registered in seller Michael John Bowerman’s name, before proceeding with the purchase.
Two days later, a woman from repossession company Derwent Mercantile told Ms Roney the van belonged to Asset Rental Group, which had leased it to Bowerman through a rent-to-buy arrangement. Asset Rental Group said it was aware that a vehicle repossessed from one of its customers had been illegally on-sold to a third party.
