CommBank Matildas defeat Kenya 2-0 to win FIFA Series 2026™

The CommBank Matildas have won the FIFA Series 2026™ after defeating the home side Kenya 2-0 in Nairobi on Wednesday (Thursday morning AEST).

Sam Kerr and Clare Wheeler were on the scoresheet either side of half-time in a tough battle to end the FIFA window.

Head Coach Joe Montemurro made three changes to the side that defeated Malawi earlier in the week. Jamilla Rankin, Alanna Kennedy and Amy Sayer came into the side, replacing Emily van Egmond, Alex Chidiac and Courtney Nevin.

Kennedy’s start was her 150th appearance for the national team. She became the fifth player to reach this milestone for Australia and wore the captain’s armband to mark the occasion.

Optus Stadium soccer game set to trigger CBD traffic frenzy

Motorists are being warned of disturbances to usual routes on Tuesday night as the Women’s Asian Cup kicks off at Optus Stadium.

The Matildas are set to take on China, with the game kicking off at 6pm, and gates opening at 4.30pm.

Main Roads WA told locals to “expect heavy foot traffic and frequently stopping vehicles in the area,” and also warned of tow away zones.

Rideshare services will be available on Sailani Avenue in East Perth.

A strong crowd is expected at Tuesday night’s semi-final and the Matildas’ game on Friday night at HBF park.

Sam Kerr penned a letter to Matilda’s fans on Monday, thanking them for their support over the tourament.

Goalscoring machine Alanna Kennedy and captain Sam Kerr have produced mesmerising strikes to lift the Matildas to a nervy 2-1 victory over North Korea in their Women's Asian Cup quarter-final in Perth.

In front of 16,466 fans at Perth Rectangular Stadium on Friday night, Kennedy struck in the ninth minute for her fifth goal of the tournament before Kerr made it 2-0 in the 47th minute.
