NRL and MHF launch 10th anniversary beanie round

The National Rugby League (NRL) and Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) are teaming up for the 10th anniversary Beanie for Brain Cancer Round across Round 17 of the 2026 Telstra Premiership this week.

Across the nine Beanie Rounds to date, Rugby League fans have helped MHF raise $29.7 million through the sale of more than 1.3 million beanies, bringing Australians together in the fight against brain cancer.

The support of the Rugby League community enabled MHF to establish one of the country’s leading brain cancer research centres at the University of Newcastle in 2022, where just this month MHF injected a new landmark $18.9 million philanthropic gift to drive the next phase of research.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Wayne Bennett has named captain Cameron Murray to return to the starting side at lock, with Lachlan Hubner reverting to the interchange bench.

Special Sharks Members on board for the Big Three Trek

Adam Johnson has rounded up a team of six mates, four of those long-term Sharks members with 70 years of ticketed membership between them, for The Big Three Trek – a walk from Sydney to Newcastle, taking place as a part of Beanies for Brain Cancer Round.

The Big Three Trek weekend will mark just over two years since his son Liam was diagnosed with a brain tumour; confirmed to be Medulloblastoma brain cancer on his sixth birthday.

The Sharks Have Heart team reached out to the Johnson family last year to help cheer Liam and the family up following what had been a brutal and intense period of treatment. Two brain surgeries; the first of which left Liam unable to walk or communicate, then 30 days of brain and spine radiation and four months of high dose chemotherapy.
