The Madison review – Michelle Pfeiffer’s new drama is thuddingly simplistic

This yawnsome homespun six-parter from the creator of Yellowstone aims to teach the womenfolk a lesson by dropping them into untamed, plain-talkin’ Montana. It’s full of terrible jokes and cloying aphorisms

Preston Clyburn (Kurt Russell) is laughing at trout. “Hah-hah,” says the rugged retiree, up to his buttocks in river as a Yellowstone cutthroat sploshes obligingly into his net. “I’m keepin’ it, and you’re cookin’ it,” he barks at his younger brother, Paul, who would rather Preston release the hapless vertebrate back into the wild but nevertheless respects his sibling’s need to connect with his inner Cro-Magnon (“the love of fishin’ goes back to early man …”).

'The Madison' Review: Michelle Pfeiffer Is Emmy-Worthy in Woeful Taylor Sheridan Drama

A river runs through The Madison, Taylor Sheridan‘s (Yellowstone) latest ode to the open spaces and unspoiled beauty of Montana. (Indeed, 1992’s A River Runs Through It has its own cameo in the series, which gives a shout-out to the late actor/director Robert Redford after the first episode.) The river is the Madison, never to be confused with Manhattan’s Madison Avenue — or anything else associated with the Big City, anathema to the pure souls who inhabit the Western heartland.

Ever flowing, a symbol of life and nourishment of the soul, the Madison (gorgeously shot by director of photography and series director Christina Alexandra Voros) becomes a place of healing for the sinfully wealthy Clyburn family. Most especially for matriarch Stacy (a luminous Michelle Pfeiffer), who resisted the call of the wild for years until a terrible tragedy beckons her entire family of “city mice” to abandon the world of luxury townhouses for an outpost with an outhouse.

‘The Madison’ premieres today: Here’s how to watch and what to know about Taylor Sheridan’s new show

A new drama series from Taylor Sheridan premieres this week, and while it’s set near the famed Dutton ranch, it reportedly has nothing to do with the family from Sheridan’s hit series, Yellowstone. Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell star in the six-episode series, along with Will Arnett The Madison premieres with its first three episodes this Saturday, exclusively on Paramount+. Here’s what else you need to know about Taylor Sheridan’s new show.

Paramount+ offers subscribers access to the new Taylor Sheridan show, The Madison, loads of sports, including some March Madness games, the NFL, soccer and more.

‘Buffy’ Reboot Dead at Hulu, Sarah Michelle Gellar Says: ‘If the Apocalypse Actually Comes, You Can Still Beep Me’

The reboot of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is not moving forward at Hulu, Variety has confirmed. Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed the news on Instagram.

“I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me. Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with ‘Buffy: New Sunnydale,'” she said in a video posted Saturday. “I want to thank Chloé Zhao, because I never thought I would find myself back in Buffy’s stylish yet affordable boots. And thanks to Chloé, I was reminded how much I love her and how much she means not only to me but to all of you. And this doesn’t change any of that, and I promise if the apocalypse actually comes, you can still beep me.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar reveals 'Buffy' reboot is dead — 'I am really sad'

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" won't be rising from the dead after all.

Sarah Michelle Gellar took to Instagram on Saturday, March 14, to reveal Hulu has decided not to move forward with a planned reboot of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

"I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me," she said in a video message.

Gellar was to reprise her role of Buffy Summers in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale," a continuation of the classic television series that was first announced in 2025. A pilot episode for the show was shot last year, with "Hamnet" filmmaker Chloé Zhao serving as director.

Sean Baker and Michelle Yeoh’s ‘Sandiwara,’ From Fashion House Self-Portrait, to Premiere at Berlin Film Festival

Sean Baker and Michelle Yeoh‘s “Sandiwara,” a film made in collaboration with the London-based fashion house Self-Portrait, is set to world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival later this month.

As Variety first reported back in December, in “Sandiwara” the “Anora” director returns to his iPhone-shooting roots for what is described in a press release as an “immersive cinematic experience.” It marks the first film from Self-Portrait’s Residency program, which launched last year with the aim of inviting creatives “from all disciplines into the brand to design using their own distinctive style,” the release states. The initiative provides Self-Portrait’s “infrastructure, platforms, resources, teams and distribution network to spotlight and promote external creatives, offering them the freedom to dream and create.”

‘Sandiwara’: Sean Baker’s Secret (Short?) Film With Michelle Yeoh To World Premiere At Berlinale 2026 — Shot on an iPhone

This year’s 12th edition of the Scary Movies festival at Film at Lincoln Center premiered Ari Aster’s extended version of “Midsommar” this past Saturday.

The 2026 Berlin Film Festival begins next Thursday, and today we got a surprise announcement.

Sean Baker will be present to present Michelle Yeoh with the festival’s Honorary Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement. Why Baker? Well, apparently he shot a secret film with Yeoh, produced by London fashion house Self-Portrait — it’s titled “Sandiwara.”

Now, although the press release does not mention whether this is a short film, one would guess it is. Then again, how short? Given the synopsis, this one could run as long as 30 minutes, maybe more.
