    Our commitment to Windows quality

I want to speak to you directly, as an engineer who has spent his career building technology that people depend on every day. Windows touches more people’s lives than almost any technology on Earth. Every day, we hear from the community about how you experience Windows. And over the past several months, the team and I have spent a great deal of time analyzing your feedback. What came through was the voice of people who care deeply about Windows and want it to be better.

Today, I’m sharing what we are doing in response. Here are some of the initial changes we will preview in builds with Windows Insiders this month and throughout April.

Microsoft keeps insisting that it’s deeply committed to the quality of Windows 11

“Reducing unnecessary Copilot entry points” is one of Microsoft’s action items.

If you were eating in a restaurant and the head chef came out from the back multiple times to loudly proclaim that the kitchen was deeply committed to the quality of the food, would you find that reassuring? Or would you start wondering why the chef felt the need to keep saying it?

That’s the conundrum facing the Windows team at Microsoft right now. Windows VP Pavan Davuluri has gone on the record several times since the start of the year to insist that Microsoft is committed to Windows 11’s quality, most recently in a post today titled “our commitment to Windows quality.” Windows 11 is an operating system that many people use but that few enthusiasts seem to love, either because of recent high-profile bugs or the steadily increasing flow of annoying add-ons, notifications, “helpful” “reminders,” and ads for other Microsoft products and services that coat most of the operating system’s virtual surfaces.

Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer retires, replaced by ex-Instacart exec Asha Sharma

Microsoft's head of gaming, Phil Spencer, is leaving the software maker following a 38-year tenure, as the company's Xbox business faces increased challenges.

"Last year, Phil Spencer made the decision to retire from the company, and since then we've been talking about succession planning," Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella wrote in a memo to employees that was published on Friday. "I want to thank Phil for his extraordinary leadership and partnership."

Spencer's exit follows the departures of business development chief Chris Young and GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke in 2025. Charlie Bell, who had been Microsoft's most high-ranking security leader, switched to an individual contributor role earlier this month.

Microsoft Names Sharma to Lead Xbox, Recommits to Console

(Bloomberg) — Microsoft Corp. named AI executive Asha Sharma to lead its Xbox and gaming business, replacing Phil Spencer, and will recommit to console users after years of developing products for mobile and PC players.

Spencer, who has run the Xbox business since 2014 and was named gaming CEO in 2022 is retiring, the company said. Xbox President Sarah Bond will also leave. Xbox games studios chief Matt Booty will become chief content officer, reporting to Sharma.

Microsoft Exchange Online Flags Customers Legitimate Email as Phishing

Microsoft Exchange Online is experiencing a service degradation that incorrectly flags legitimate customer emails as phishing, quarantining them and disrupting communications. The issue, identified as EX1227432, started on February 5, 2026, at 10:31 AM EST and remains ongoing.

Microsoft classifies this as an incident affecting Exchange Online, with some users unable to send or receive emails normally. Legitimate messages are being marked as phishing due to overly aggressive detection criteria designed to counter sophisticated spam and phishing tactics. A new URL rule is the culprit, mistakenly identifying safe URLs as malicious, leading to quarantines.

Affected users see their inbound and outbound emails trapped in quarantine, impacting productivity across organizations relying on Exchange Online.

Microsoft shrugs off AI bubble fears again with strong financial results

Company reports second-quarter revenues of $81.27bn but posts slowing growth in key cloud computing business

Investor interest in Microsoft’s shares may have weakened in recent months, but the company posted strong financial results on Wednesday that yet again demonstrated that the AI boom is roaring on.

Microsoft reported earnings for the second quarter of fiscal year that are likely to keep the party going for Wall Street, despite slowing growth in its key cloud computing business.

Microsoft reported revenues of $81.27bn against expectations of $80.32bn, and improved from the 12.3% increase it recorded in the same quarter last year. Earnings came in at $4.14 per share against expectations of $3.92.

Microsoft Confirms New Upgrade Decision For All Windows Users

December has only just started, and Microsoft is already busy with the latest set of broken Windows reports, the hangover from the end of Windows 10 and the slow uptake for its replacement. Now the Windows-maker is taking action.

The news that as many as 500 million users may have PCs eligible for Windows 11 but are choosing not to upgrade was a major surprise. Now Microsoft is giving all those PC owners — plus Windows 11 users without the latest updates — a push.

Per Neowin, Microsoft has confirmed that it is now allowing all supported systems download and install Windows 11 25H2. Whether you are on Windows 11 or Windows 10, users can opt to upgrade to the 2025 feature update provided they have a system that meets the system requirements of Windows 11.”

Microsoft outlines plan to fix app updates on Windows 11

Windows 11 will soon be able to update apps in a more consistent and reliable manner with a new unified update orchestrator platform that developers can opt-in to.
