The radical solution to help clubs crippled by injury

When teams lose a major star for the season it hurts the game, but this bold move could help fix that.

Most professional sports and leagues can trade or transfer players during the season. It’s time we do this in the AFL again. We did it in the 1970s. One famous trade was Gareth Andrews going from Geelong to Richmond after round seven, 1974, for Rex Hunt. He actually played against North Melbourne two weeks in a row. The teams that would benefit the most this year would be led by the Western Bulldogs. With Tim English out and Sam Darcy gone for the season they have been exposed big time in the ruck the past two weeks and it does not get any easier against Sydney’s Brodie Grundy tonight. Even if English returns in the next few weeks they would love a bit more depth in this area. West Coast and Richmond are the other two teams desperately needing reinforcements. It’s never been harder to rebuild with just kids. I think the Tigers would love to find a small forward who could hit the scoreboard or a midfielder with some speed and burst. These are two areas they are struggling in big time. As for the Eagles, a bit of experience and height down back wouldn’t go astray. They are asking a lot of Reuben Ginbey, who is 191cm, against some monster full-forwards. It would be fascinating who these clubs would make a play for and who they would be prepared to give up, plus it would give us another talking point on the sidelines.

After months of teasing, Kevin Parker has confirmed an Australian tour before the end of 2026, bringing his visionary project back to Australian shores with arena shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth this October.

The announcement follows the release of Deadbeat, Parker’s first Tame Impala album in five years, which also earned him his first solo Grammy earlier this year.

The record spawned singles including “End of Summer”, “Loser” and breakout hit “Dracula”, which marked Parker’s biggest US radio debut to date and placed at No. 3 in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2025.

Tame Impala Expands 2026 Australian Tour

Extra shows have been announced for Tame Impala's tour after pre-sale allocation was immediately exhausted in three cities.

Following extraordinary demand for tickets, resulting in pre-sale allocation immediately selling out in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, extra dates have been added to Tame Impala’s 2026 Australian tour.

Second shows have been confirmed in all three cities. The three extra shows will take place at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Sunday, 11 October, Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Thursday, 15 October, and Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on Tuesday, 20 October.

Tickets for the new shows will be available from 11 am AEDT in today’s pre-sale. After the pre-sale concludes, general sale tickets for the three additional dates – as well as the four shows initially announced yesterday – will be available on Friday, 27 February, at 11 am local time.

Aussie dollar to hit the ‘mid-70s’ as RBA raises interest rates

The sudden surge in the Australian dollar above US71¢ is expected to continue for the next few months at least, but some strategists warn the rally could rapidly unwind as the US currency starts to reassert itself.

The Aussie dollar touched US71.47¢ on Thursday, its highest level since February 2023 and extending its rally already this year to a massive 7 per cent, buoyed by a weaker greenback and an interest rate increase by the Reserve Bank of Australia last week.

The Aussie dollar is soaring – but there’s a hidden headwind

When Australians invest in global markets, they are essentially making two decisions at once. The first is an investment call on the underlying asset. The second, which is often overlooked, is a currency bet.

For many investors, it’s this hidden currency exposure that can come as a surprise. Movements in the Australian dollar can quietly add to or erode returns from international investments and have the potential to overwhelm the performance of the asset itself.

If the Australian dollar rises by 10 per cent against the US dollar, the value of that investment falls by roughly 10 per cent when converted back into Australian dollars, even if the underlying shares have not moved. The opposite is also true: if the Australian dollar falls, unhedged offshore investments receive a boost.

Bulldogs mid and flag Demon calls time on 174-game career

The premiership Dee has retired after a 12-year career at the top level

WESTERN Bulldogs midfielder James Harmes has retired, with the former Demon stepping away from the game.

AFL.com.au can reveal Harmes has called an end to his AFL career, having been in discussions with the Dogs in recent weeks.

He informed teammates of the decision on Tuesday and leaves after 174 games at the top level.

It comes after a challenging period for the 2021 Melbourne premiership player, with Harmes not returning to the Bulldogs' pre-season after their Christmas break due to personal reasons and missing their camp in Queensland last week.

Harmes, a 2021 premiership player with Melbourne before joining the Western Bulldogs in late 2023, on Tuesday told teammates he was retiring, per multiple reports.

The 30-year-old has played 174 AFL games, including 13 last season under Luke Beveridge.

Harmes had been away from the Dogs since Christmas as he dealt with a delicate personal matter.
