'Part of me would miss him a lot': McRae waits on Pendles call

Collingwood will need to wait till season's end to hear what its champion is doing next

COLLINGWOOD coach Craig McRae can understand rival clubs targeting Scott Pendlebury as the Magpies legend prepares to leave a call on his future until the end of the season.

After missing Sunday's win over West Coast, Pendlebury will be joined by fellow premiership hero Jordan De Goey in returning to face Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday night.

Debuting in 2006, Pendlebury is giving thought to playing on into a 22nd AFL season in 2027, even if it is at another club.

Essendon and Gold Coast have shown interest in recruiting Pendlebury as effectively an on-field coach.

Golden Sunset? Gold Coast ponders Pendlebury for Hodge-like role

Gold Coast have expressed interest in recruiting Collingwood great Scott Pendlebury for a Luke Hodge-style role on the field next year.

Essendon also have inquired about whether Pendlebury would be interested in playing with and mentoring their young list next year, as the AFL’s games record holder weighs up his next move, industry sources familiar with Pendlebury’s discussions have confirmed.

The Suns, who have slumped from a 7-3 start this season to be 8-13 and out of finals contention, are primarily interested in Pendlebury as a player next year, rather than as an assistant coach, though he harbours coaching ambitions and could easily move from playing to (assistant) coaching if he chooses to leave the Magpies.

Essendon’s bold play to lure Pendlebury for great’s final chapter

Essendon has reportedly made a bold play to convince Collingwood champion Scott Pendlebury to finish his career at Tullamarine.

It comes as the 38-year-old has reportedly told the Pies he wants to play on again in 2027.

The Magpies are reportedly still on the fence about whether to offer Pendlebury a contract given his age, but he is seemingly keen to go into a 22nd AFL campaign.

And while AFL reporter Cal Twomey says a move to Essendon won’t come to fruition, it highlights the current lateral thinking at the Bombers as they attempt to add experience and leadership to their list.

Achraf Hakimi to Miss PSG Friendly Against Manchester United

Rabat – Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi will miss Paris Saint-Germain’s friendly against Manchester United on Saturday as he has yet to return to first-team training following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Hakimi is scheduled to resume training with PSG on Monday alongside several teammates who were also granted additional time off after representing their national teams at the World Cup.

The group includes Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Bradley Barcola, Lucas Hernandez, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Lucas Digne, and Fabián Ruiz.

As a result, the players will not feature in PSG’s friendly against Manchester United and are expected to rejoin the squad at the start of next week as the French club continues preparations for the 2026-27 season.

PSG Grant Achraf Hakimi Extended Break

Rabat – Morocco international Achraf Hakimi will return to Paris Saint-Germain training later than initially expected after the French champions extended his post-World Cup break.

The right-back had been due to rejoin PSG after four weeks of rest following Morocco’s quarterfinal exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup against France on July 9.

However, French media reports indicate that the club has decided to give the 27-year-old a few extra days off before he resumes preparations for the new season.

Hakimi is now expected back at the club on Monday alongside several French internationals, including Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola, Warren Zaire-Emery, and Lucas Hernandez.

Magpies to miss top trade target, twist on breakout star’s future; 7-gamer’s bidding war — Whispers

Collingwood has reportedly begun talks with Ed Allan’s management over a contract extension.

That’s according to the Age’s Jake Niall, who reports on Wednesday it’s the “first confirmation” after months of speculation that the club is “keen to retain” the uncontracted Claremont product.

Collingwood finally in contract talks with improving young gun

Interim Essendon coach Dean Solomon will not apply for the full-time coaching role.

The Bombers 2000 premiership player took over the side after the sacking of Brad Scott in late May – the Dons posting a 1-8 [win-loss] record during his tenure and a game behind Richmond on the bottom of the ladder.

But Solomon has repeatedly expressed his belief in the talent of the club’s young players, despite the losses adding up, with the likes of Nate Caddy, Sullivan Robey, Jacob Farrow, Archie Roberts and Dyson Sharp showing huge potential.

While Solomon held preliminary talks with Essendon’s chief executive Tim Roberts, he told media last Thursday he was yet to formally discuss the matter with the club hierarchy, explaining that Roberts was keen for him to “concentrate on coaching … and that at some point in time, he would give us a tap on the shoulder and have that discussion”.

Shavkat Rakhmonov expected to miss several more months after another surgery

Shavkat Rakhmonov is likely going to miss most, if not all of 2026.

The undefeated Rakhmonov, who earned a UFC welterweight title shot after a spectacular start to his promotional run, is expected to miss another nine to 10 months of action following surgery to his re-injured knee, Rakhmonov’s manager Daniel Rubenstein confirmed to MMA Fighting on Saturday. The news was first reported by Ariel Helwani.

Social media reacted to a video that showed Rakhmonov attending Saturday’s Naiza FC 80 event in Kazakhstan wearing a knee brace and needing crutches. The news serves as a massive blow to the 19-0 fighter, who turned 31 this past October.

Undefeated UFC Title Contender in Islam Makhachev’s Division Crushes Return Hopes After Being Spotted With Crutches

Islam Makhachev claimed the welterweight crown after defeating Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322. The Dagestani’s dominant win put the division on alert, but a few names still caught his interest. Fans started calling for matchups against contenders like Ian Garry, Carlos Prates, or Michael Morales. At the same time, many hoped to see Shavkat Rakhmonov return and challenge Makhachev. However, dark clouds now loom over that matchup, as the undefeated Kazakh was recently spotted wearing crutches with knee braces.

“Shavkat Rakhmonov was spotted walking with crutches and a knee brace. He hasn’t fought since December 2024 due to a knee injury,” Championship Round posted on X, ‘Nomad’ walking with the crutches at NAIZA 80 fight night event.

Sunday afternoon's playoff game between the Patriots and the Texans doesn't have the most ideal weather conditions, meaning every point a team can accumulate is huge.

The Patriots' defense set the offense up well to start the game, and with a four point lead, they were in a position to get more points up on the board.

That's exactly what they did, as Stefon Diggs scored a massive touchdown to extend the New England lead to a two-possession game.

Diggs' late second-quarter touchdown was his fifth career postseason touchdown, and it was the first time in a long time that he got a touchdown on the board in a playoff game.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Carson Beck scrambled for a 3-yard touchdown with 18 seconds left, and Miami will head back home for a shot at its first national championship since 2001 after beating Ole Miss 31-27 in an exhilarating College Football Playoff semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday night.

The 10th-seeded Hurricanes (13-2) had their vaunted defense picked apart by the sixth-seeded Rebels (13-2) in a wild fourth quarter, falling into a 27-24 hole after Trinidad Chambliss threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Dae'Quan Wright with 3:13 left.

Ole Miss (13-1): The Rebels were 6.5-point underdogs to a Georgia team that had won the first game between the teams. The Bulldogs won the regular-season matchup 43-35 in Athens. In that game, Ole Miss faded in the fourth quarter as Georgia’s defense took over. On New Year’s night, Ole Miss took over in the second half and it was Georgia that faded down the stretch.
