    Hawks lock away coach Mitchell until 2030, Pies offer veteran another year

    Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell has inked three-year a contract extension that ties him to the Hawks until the end of 2030.

    Mitchell, who was already contracted for next season, has made no secret of his ambition to chase A-grade talent in the quest for a premiership after coaching the Hawks to consecutive finals series.

    “Sam’s impact during his first five seasons as senior coach has been profound, and we’re delighted to extend his leadership through to 2030,” said Hawthorn chief executive Ash Klein.

    “Having instilled elite standards whilst showing genuine care and connection with his players, Sam has cultivated an environment where every player can reach their full potential. Driven by his innate competitiveness, Sam’s ability to motivate, educate, and inspire our group is first class.

    Sam Mitchell re-signs

    The Hawks have re-signed their AFL Senior Coach for a further three seasons.

    Hawthorn is delighted to announce it has re-signed Sam Mitchell as AFL Senior Coach for a further three seasons.

    With Mitchell already contracted for 2027, this new multi-year extension ensures he will remain at the helm of the Hawks until at least the end of 2030.

    After steering the club to its first finals victory in almost a decade in 2024, Mitchell led the Hawks to within one win of a Grand Final appearance last season.

    In season 2026, Mitchell secured his side’s third consecutive finals appearance during just his fifth season in charge.

    SAN ANTONIO — Ajay Mitchell left the Thunder bench midway through the third quarter of Game 3 of the Western Conference finals Friday against the Spurs after he was seen limping.

    The Thunder guard went down late in Game 2 and limped off the court, but he started Game 3 in place of Jalen Williams, who reaggravated a left hamstring injury and was ruled out before the game Friday.

    Mitchell exited the game with two points, five rebounds and one assist.

    OKC Thunder Need Ajay Mitchell to Step Up in WCF Amid Injuries

    Oklahoma City can’t seem to stay at full strength, and its rising star guard may need to step up again.

    On Wednesday night, the Thunder responded to their Game 1 loss with a 122-113 win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 to knot the series at 1-1. After starting the Western Conference Finals in heartbreaking fashion, the Thunder didn’t get through their two-game homestand without another loss.

    While the scoreboard was enough to tie the series, the Thunder still suffered a potentially major blow with Jalen Williams exiting the game in the first half. Playing only seven minutes in the Thunder’s Game 2 win, Williams suffered another left hamstring injury.

    Oklahoma City Thunder guard Ajay Mitchell is never shaken by the moment

    With 2025 All-Star Jalen Williams injured, the second-year guard has stepped up in the NBA playoffs

    Most NBA fans outside of Oklahoma are probably just getting familiar with the name Ajay Mitchell. The second-year Oklahoma City Thunder guard has made a name for himself during these NBA playoffs while stepping into the starting lineup for injured 2025 NBA All-Star Jalen Williams.

    As for Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his teammates, they were familiar with Mitchell from just after the 2024 draft, when the team traded with the Knicks to acquire him in the second round.

    “It might be a shock to the world,” Gilgeous-Alexander recently told the media, “but it’s not to us. We knew who Ajay Mitchell was the day he stepped foot in our building, and he’s just showing it to the world.”

    James Harden answered the bell with 9 fourth quarter points in the Cavs’ Game 3 win.

    CLEVELAND (AP) — James Harden endured plenty of criticism after the first two games of Cleveland’s Eastern Conference Semifinal series against Detroit.

    With the Cavaliers in danger of falling into a 3-0 hole that no NBA team has ever overcome, the 17-year veteran showed he can still come up big in the clutch.

    Harden hit three shots in the final two minutes Saturday to lift the Cavaliers to a 116-109 victory over the Pistons in Game 3.

    “I love it. When my number’s called, just getting to my spots,” said Harden, who finished with 19 points and seven assists in 40 minutes. “Don(ovan) Mitchell had been working so extremely hard throughout the course of the game, just trying to find opportunities to help him. So that last minute and a half, two minutes, however long it was, it presented itself. And for me, just going out there and taking my shots.”

    NRL 2026: Act from Wayne Bennett comes to light after Latrell Mitchell backflips on 18-month ban

    Latrell Mitchell delighted the NRL world after ending his self-imposed media ban by speaking to reporters for the first time in 18 months on Tuesday. And it's understood a discussion with Wayne Bennett was behind the major backflip, after the veteran coach convinced Mitchell that now was the perfect time to present himself to the press again.

    Mitchell has been the standout centre over the first nine rounds of the competition, and is in close to career-best form for the high-flying Rabbitohs. The 28-year-old leads the NRL in points, linebreak assists and has scored 11 tries in eight games, and he's considered a certain starter for Laurie Daley's Blues in this year's Origin series.

    One New Zealand Warriors co-captain Mitchell Barnett will return to Australia at the end of the season for personal reasons.

    Warriors CEO Cameron George today announced the 31-year-old Kangaroos and New South Wales front rower will be released from the final year of his contract.

    “We’re very sad to see this happen but Mitch and his family need to be back home,” he said.

    “He has become such a big part of our club. We love having him here and we know how much he loves it, too, but it’s important he, Clare and their boys are back around their family support network."

    The Warriors have dropped a bombshell with skipper Mitch Barnett released from the final year of his deal to return to Australia for personal reasons.

    Barnett, who is returning from an ACL injury that rubbed him out of most of last year, was contracted for 2027, but will now return to Australia at the end of the 2026 season, which will be his last in Warriors colours.

    Broncos linked with State of Origin star after early release from rival NRL club

    The Broncos, Titans and Knights have been floated as the most likely destination for Mitch Barnett after the State of Origin forward was granted an early release from his contract with the Warriors. Barnett announced on Tuesday that he'll head back to Australia at the end of the 2026 for family reasons.

    The 31-year-old started his career in Canberra, before playing 126 games for Newcastle. He moved to New Zealand to play for the Warriors in 2023, and was contracted until the end of 2027.

    But he's been granted a release from the final year of his deal and will return to Australia in 2027. Barnett, who has played two Origin games for the Blues, said he wants to be closer to family on the NSW north coast due to his child's ongoing medical needs.
