Julien Leblanc’s Moment Has Finally Arrived

Last March, Julien Leblanc registered a third-round doctor’s stoppage win over UFC alum Darian Weeks to claim the vacant Samourai MMA middleweight title.

His next bout eight months later was scheduled against Neemias Santana, who went the distance against Ilian Bouafia on Week 1 of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 9.

For the longtime regional standout, consecutive wins over individuals with UFC connectivity felt like a sure-fire way to capture the promotion’s attention and perhaps get the call he’d been hoping to receive for the last several years. But in a career filled with cancellations, pandemics and injuries, things didn’t work out as planned: Santana withdrew and was replaced with fellow Canadian Ryan Rohovich, whom Leblanc dispatched with relative ease to register his fifth straight win and third straight finish.

Julien Leblanc Talks Full Circle Moment at UFC Winnipeg

A veteran of the sport for over a dozen years, Julien Leblanc finally got the call to the big show. Having tried to just about every avenue to get that call, Leblanc had been close a time or two, but it ultimately hadn’t happened for him.

“I’ve been trying to get on contenders for two, three years now – and it didn’t happen. I was actually cut from the Ultimate Fighter, the season that Robert [Valentin] was on it, and he went in final. I was like in the one of the last, I was not in the last alternate, but I was like waiting,” LeBlanc explained. “I had signed the contract waiting to know if I was flying out to Vegas to go and unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance.”

Match Preview: CommBank Socceroos v Cameroon | FIFA Series 2026™

It is a last chance for the squad to impress Head Coach Tony Popovic as they look to bed down principles to take them into the global finals in June.

The game against Cameroon is the first in a two-game series against high quality opposition in their final games on home soil ahead of the World Cup.

Head Coach Tony Popovic initially made twelve changes to the squad that competed in the November international window. These include players returning from injury, two first-time call ups in Lucas Herrington and Ante Suto, and a potential debutant in Deni Juric.

There has also been a change in the squad, with Kye Rowles coming in to replace Fran Karacic, who has a foot problem.

‘Fateful moment’ for Denmark amid Trump threats to take over Greenland

Danish prime minister says country is at a crossroads and accuses US of turning its back on Nato

Mette Frederiksen has said that Denmark is at a “fateful moment” amid Donald Trump’s threats to take over Greenland, accusing the US of potentially turning its back on Nato.

Speaking at a party leader debate at a political rally on Sunday, the Danish prime minister said her country was “at a crossroads”.

Her comments came before a crucial week in increasingly tense relations between Denmark, Greenland and the US in which the foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland, Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Vivian Motzfeldt, are due to meet the US secretary of state, Marco Rubio.

'We just want to be left alone': Greenlanders on Trump's takeover threats

This week, Donald Trump repeated his desire to take over Greenland and make it part of the United States, potentially by using military force.

The BBC's Europe Editor Katya Adler visited the Arctic island's capital, Nuuk, to ask locals what they thought of the US president's renewed threats.

One Greenlander said she thought Trump was "crazy", while another said residents "just want to be left alone".

It comes against a background of global superpowers scrambling for the Arctic for its strategic defence capabilities, as well as for rare earths and other minerals, which are newly accessible due to melting ice.

Greenland claims: How close have NATO members come to fighting each other?

The US is considering military action to seize Greenland, in a move that could cause divisions within the NATO alliance.

The Trump administration has once again threatened to take control of Greenland either by acquiring it or through the use of military force to “deter our adversaries in the Arctic region.”

Greenland, which is a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, already hosts the Pituffik Space Base, which the US operates in coordination with Danish authorities. Both the US and Denmark are founding members of NATO, the most powerful military alliance.

European and Canadian leaders have jumped to support Denmark and Greenland, saying they are working on a plan in the event the United States follows through with its threats.

'Absolutely bizarre' moment in Big Bash game as wrong gloves handed to Brisbane Heat batter

There's very rarely a dull moment in the Big Bash and that was proven to be true once again on Monday night during the Brisbane Heat's game against the Sydney Sixers.

During the first innings in Coffs Harbour, young gun batter Hugh Weibgen was at the crease when seventh wicket fell, bringing spinner Matt Kuhnemann to the crease.

As the new batter was making his way out, Weibgen asked for a fresh set of gloves to be brought out to the middle for him to change mid-innings.

However, once the Sixers were ready to continue bowling and Kuhnemann was out there ready to mark centre, Weibgen had to stop play and signalled to the Heat dugout.

Brisbane Heat young gun Hugh Weibgen went from hero to zero on Friday night and it wasn't the only piece of drama in an entertaining Big Bash game.

Harry Brook’s moment of madness a fitting epitaph for England’s flawed cult of Baz | Barney Ronay

The day was transformed in Australia’s favour by the batter’s failed swish, a perfect demonstration of talent being wasted and Test matches squandered

Tough on Harry Brook, yes. But we must also be tough on the causes of Harry Brook. No child is born playing performative reverse-hoicks with a Test match to be saved, just as most acts of cult-like behaviour have their roots in a smooth-talking cult-like instructor.

For England the beginning of the end of the age of Baz started when the disciples of Baz began to deny such a thing even existed; to insist that the buckle-up-and-enjoy-the-ride stuff didn’t actually exist at all, but was instead a creation of another, much worse cult, also known in this world as “the outside”.

'What's he done?' – Lyon bowls Brook after reverse sweep attempt missed

He has often claimed to be oblivious to criticism that has come his way throughout his England career.

It might have been for his own good if England team-mate Harry Brook's passwords were changed before he got back to his Adelaide hotel room on Saturday night.

His dismissal after tea, bowled attempting a reverse sweep to off-spinner Nathan Lyon, was not pretty.

It opened the door for Lyon, who twirled out two more England batters to take Australia to the brink of an Ashes series win that has looked inevitable for some time with the tourists now 207-6.

The Ashes: Zak Crawley says Harry Brook's third Test dismissal would not be criticised by anyone in England camp

England are on the brink of Ashes series defeat with Australia needing just four wickets to win the third Test; Harry Brook was bowled by Nathan Lyon when attempting a reverse sweep against the Australia spinner

Zak Crawley says no one in the group would ever criticise the nature of his England team-mate Harry Brook's dismissal after the batter was out reverse sweeping in the third Ashes Test.

England slipped to the brink of a series defeat on Saturday as they finished the fourth day in Adelaide on 207-6 in their second innings, still needing 228 more runs to pull off a record chase of 435 to win.
