News: ONES TO WATCH Returns To Melbourne With A Fresh Wave Of Australian Talent

For more than two decades globally, Live Nation’s ONES TO WATCH has built its reputation on identifying tomorrow’s headline acts before the rest of the industry catches up. Returning to Melbourne on Wednesday 5 August, the showcase once again places the spotlight firmly on emerging Australian talent, with Miles Nautu, Gazal and Lara Buchanantaking over the newly opened Smith St. Hotel.

Since launching in Australia in 2021, ONES TO WATCH has become an important platform for developing artists, offering intimate performances that prioritise discovery over spectacle. Previous editions have helped introduce audiences to artists at pivotal moments in their careers, continuing a global tradition that has included early support for names such as Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo and Halsey before they became international stars.

Europe heatwave: France shuts Eiffel Tower on its hottest day on record

Paris/Madrid: Forty people have drowned in France over recent days as they sought to cool down to escape record heat, as a heatwave swept across much of Europe.

Britain, Italy, Switzerland and Spain also sweltered in extreme heat on Tuesday, with record temperatures in some areas disrupting schools and transport networks and forcing tourist sites – including the Eiffel Tower – to shut.

Europe is warming at more than twice the global average, according to the World Meteorological Organisation, making such prolonged heat episodes increasingly likely.

France experienced its hottest day on record on Tuesday, Meteo France forecaster said, with a peak of 44.3 degrees in one town in the south-west.

The ‘heat dome’ settling over western Europe could bring temperatures of up to 40C to some parts of England and Wales in the middle part of this week

The UK's version of One Nation just got smashed. Could our PM learn from it?

Anthony Albanese has seen One Nation's popularity rise during his time in office. (ABC News: Nick Haggarty)

If Anthony Albanese is looking for a blueprint to combat One Nation, the results of a by-election on the other side of the world this week may hold some clues.

Like Australia, the United Kingdom's political status quo has been up-ended by a populist, right-wing party enjoying a surge in support.

On Thursday however, voters in a working-class constituency in north-west England made a statement when they delivered Andy Burnham, the candidate for Britain's deeply unpopular Labour government, a crushing victory.

Reform UK, a rising anti-establishment force that has dominated national opinion polls for months and shares multiple similarities with One Nation, was a distant second.

Four things to know about Andy Burnham, the man likely to be the UK’s next PM

London: Andy Burnham is a political insider turned outsider who aims to be Britain’s next prime minister.

The 56-year-old presents himself as an amiable northern everyman who prefers T-shirts to a suit and tie and spends his spare time playing soccer or spinning 1990s tunes during DJ battles.

He’s also an experienced politician whose career has taken him from high-level government jobs to the mayoralty of Greater Manchester, and now to the cusp of the prime minister’s office.

Burnham is expected to contest the leadership after winning a seat in parliament in a byelection last week, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s decision on Monday to resign as Labour leader.

Starmer, Burnham tipped to agree orderly handover, transition

London | UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will leave office within weeks after announcing he would resign on Monday, paving the way for leadership rival  Andy Burnham to take the reins of power by September at the latest in a fractured Britain.

As political uncertainty, coupled with market jitters that Burnham may loosen fiscal policy, drove down the British pound in early trading, Starmer said Labour MPs were asking who was best placed to lead the party to the next general election.

US Ticketmaster and Live Nation had an anticompetitive monopoly over big concert venues, jury finds

New York: A jury has found that concert giant Live Nation and its Ticketmaster subsidiary had a harmful monopoly over big concert venues, dealing the company a loss in a lawsuit over claims brought by dozens of US states and the District of Columbia.

A Manhattan federal jury deliberated for four days before reaching its decision Wednesday in the closely watched case, which gave fans the equivalent of a backstage pass to a business that dominates live entertainment in the US and beyond.

“It’s a great day for antitrust law,” a jubilant attorney, Jeffrey Kessler, said as he emerged from the courthouse.

Live Nation illegally monopolized ticketing market, jury in antitrust trial finds

A jury in a high-stakes antitrust trial found Wednesday that Live Nation and its subsidiary Ticketmaster illegally maintained monopoly power in the ticketing market.

Jurors delivered the verdict in federal court in New York City after around five weeks of trial, which featured testimony from dozens of witnesses. The jury began deliberating Friday.

The complaint, initially brought by the Justice Department and dozens of state attorneys general in 2024, claimed Live Nation monopolized the industry by controlling ticketing, concert booking, venues and promotions.

The lawsuit alleged that the company engaged in “anticompetitive conduct,” resulting in fans’ paying higher fees, artists’ having fewer options for touring and venues’ being coerced to use Ticketmaster.

We should rate One Nation on what it does, not on what it says

Joel Fitzgibbon (“Why voters believe One Nation can resolve their state of angst”, April 4) is right: if voters want to know what One Nation really stands for, they should stop listening to the slogans and start reading the voting record. One Nation has built a business model around anger – cost of living, regional neglect, housing stress – while pretending outrage is the same thing as a solution. Because when it comes time to vote, the pattern is often the opposite of the image they sell. Just a couple of examples, and there are many. Pauline Hanson has continually supported the removal of Sunday and public holiday penalty rates and backed tax cuts for high-income earners, a strange way to stand up for the workers she claims to represent. That is the real story. They speak the language of battlers, but too often vote against their interests. Voters should stop listening to what One Nation says and start looking at what it actually votes for. Denise McHugh, Tamworth

FTC Lawsuit Against Ticketmaster Poised to Revolutionize Concert Ticket Sales

In a significant move that could reshape the concert ticketing landscape, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a lawsuit against Ticketmaster and its parent company, Live Nation Entertainment. This legal action, initiated in September 2025, is backed by seven U.S. states and centers around allegations of illegal ticket resale practices.

The FTC’s lawsuit claims that Ticketmaster has engaged in deceptive practices detrimental to both consumers and artists. Central to the complaint are accusations of illegal ticket resale practices, leading to inflated prices that ordinary fans cannot afford.

The FTC alleges that Ticketmaster allowed brokers to exploit its platform by purchasing large quantities of tickets beyond specified limits. These brokers reportedly utilized bots and created multiple fake accounts to acquire tickets from the primary market. Consequently, fans miss the opportunity to buy tickets at face value and instead face exorbitant resale prices.

Bad news for skyrocketing ticket prices: Live Nation could catch break from Trump admin

It has been 15 years since Tommy Dorfman sued the world’s biggest concert and ticketing company.

The New Jersey–born DJ and promoter accused entertainment giant Live Nation of using its market power to shut out independent promoters and control access to live music.

His lawsuit is still awaiting a court date, but it appears the $37 billion conglomerate might avoid a much bigger courtroom showdown — its battle with the federal government.

The U.S. Department of Justice launched an antitrust case against the company in 2024 claiming Live Nation is operating an illegal monopoly that has driven up concert prices. Dorfman was ecstatic.

Live Nation Can’t Escape DOJ Monopoly Lawsuit as Judge Sends Antitrust Case to Trial

While the judge dismissed parts of the case, he said a jury might find that "artists were coerced into going with Live Nation."

A federal judge on Wednesday (Feb. 18) refused to dismiss the Justice Department’s sweeping monopoly lawsuit against Live Nation, sending the case to trial next month.

Live Nation had asked Judge Arun Subramanian to end the antitrust lawsuit, which aims to break up the company from its Ticketmaster subsidiary, arguing the feds had uncovered little hard evidence after more than a year of discovery.

But in his ruling, the judge said the government could proceed to trial on several key accusations, including that Live Nation abused its vast portfolio of amphitheaters to force artists to use its promotion services.
