One little decision had big ramifications for streaming show’s budget

Beef season two stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan made an on-set decision that proved rather expensive.

The Hollywood stars play the leads in new episodes of the hit Netflix show, playing a couple whose marriage starts to disintegrate after their lives collide with a newly engaged pair (Cailee Spaney and Charles Melton).

Getting teeth pulled out, punching cars and obsessing about salad – the weird ways actors get into character

Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac decided to wear earbuds so they could listen to music while acting in Beef – resulting in massive VFX costs. But they’re the tip of the iceberg when it comes to wild onset choices…

Come awards season, you probably wouldn’t think that the second season of Netflix’s Beef would be a contender for many visual-effects gongs. After all, while it is tight, tense and sublimely acted, it is ultimately a small ensemble piece grounded in some form of reality.

But you might be wrong, since it has emerged that VFX artists had to painstakingly paint out earbuds worn by Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan throughout the shoot. On a recent podcast appearance, the show’s creator, Lee Sung Jin, told Isaac and Mulligan that digitally erasing the earwigs, as they are known, “cost a fortune”.

Beef Season 2 Stars’ Bizarre Acting Choice Cost Netflix ‘A Fortune’

An unusual acting approach on the set of Beef Season 2 has drawn attention after creator Lee Sung Jin revealed it led to a significant increase in costs. Lead actors Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan opted for a unique performance method during filming. This decision ultimately required extensive post-production work and proved expensive for Netflix.

The production cost of Beef Season 2 increased due to an unexpected creative decision made during filming, as revealed by creator Lee Sung Jin.

He explained that lead actors Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan frequently used earphones while performing scenes, a choice that later required extensive digital removal in post-production. “You two were always playing songs as you performed,” Sung Jin said, adding that the process “cost a fortune to paint out.”

Netflix's 'Apex' trailer teases Charlize Theron being hunted in the Australian wilderness

If there's one thing we've learned from Australian survival thrillers, it's that it's never a good idea to venture out solo into the wilderness — and if you do, you definitely want to avoid asking the locals for directions.

A cat-and-mouse survival game plays out in the Netflix trailer above for Apex, which sees Charlize Theron being hunted through the mountains by an impressively creepy Taron Egerton.

From the looks of things we can expect beautiful scenery, rock climbing and kayak-based action sequences, and plenty of shots of Egerton grinning while wielding a crossbow.

Netflix's action-thriller Apex looks like a pure horror movie

The first Apex trailer does look thrilling, but Taron Egerton hunting a woman for sport is pure horror

The first trailer for Netflix's upcoming movie Apex arrived Wednesday, and it looks intense — a riff on the endlessly adapted short story The Most Dangerous Game, where a predatory, amoral person hunts human prey through the wilds for sport. Charlize Theron is the prey here, a thrill-seeker named Sasha who's heading for a challenging whitewater rafting site when a stranger (Taron Egerton, from the Kingsman movies) steals her gear, offers her a head start, and starts hunting her down.

"Hunting humans for sport" horror stories go way back, and this trailer echoes a few classics — in coding Egerton's character as a redneck who knows the forests and Sasha as an outsider who doesn't know the danger she's in, Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur (who helmed the Idris Elba creature-feature Beast) and screenwriter Jeremy Robbins (the Purge TV series) seem to be tapping into John Boorman's survival classic Deliverance. But the chase itself, across a raging river, down a waterfall, and through close-up physical confrontations where Sasha fights her opponent's physical strength, feel more like recent Predator movies, or the recent Predator-like alien-invasion movie War Machine, with a more human adversary.

EXCLUSIVE: Legendary’s live-action feature adaptation of Gundam looks to have found a home as sources tell Deadline that Netflix is on board to distribute the pic. Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo are on board to star with Sweet Tooth director Jim Mickle helming.

The project has been co-developed between Legendary and franchise owner Bandai Namco Filmworks, from Mickle’s own script. Mickle also will produce with his partner Linda Moran through their production company Nightshade. Centineo is also producing with his partner Enzo Marc.

The plot is under wraps, but this will mark the first live-action feature in the Gundam world. A live-action Canadian telefilm called G-Saviour aired on TV Asahi in 1999.

Netflix Stranger Things moves into its post-finale era with a new behind-the-scenes documentary and fresh 2026 spinoff plans

Netflix’s Stranger Things has already closed its main chapter, and the conversation is shifting from “when does it drop” to “what comes next.” The fifth and final season arrived in a three-part rollout that began on November 26, 2025, continued on December 25, 2025, and concluded with a finale episode on December 31, 2025.

The release strategy was built to feel like an event rather than a single binge. Each drop hit at the same primetime moment, and the finale was treated as a one-night destination watch. The capper also expanded beyond home viewing with limited theatrical screenings across the United States and Canada, a notable move for a series that helped define streaming-first fandom.

Netflix Is Officially Changing the Stranger Things Timeline After the Series Finale

Just weeks after the long-awaited series finale of Stranger Things, Netflix is already shaking up the show's timeline. The coming-of-age supernatural thriller dominated the cultural zeitgeist for the last ten years, premiering its first season in 2026. After a decade, the Duffer Brothers' magnum opus came to an end on New Year's Eve, firmly closing the door on each of the show's iconic and beloved characters. However, the Stranger Things universe is getting ready to expand with new spinoffs.

The first spinoff from the original series, Stranger Things: Tales from '85, is an animated show set to premiere on Netflix later this year. The series will take place between Season 2 and Season 3 of Stranger Things, featuring the previously unknown adventures of Eleven, Mike, Dustin, and the rest of the crew. Even before it premieres, Tales from '85 is complicating the Stranger Things timeline.

Netflix’s New Figure Skating Romance Shares A Connection With ‘Heated Rivalry’

Between Heated Rivalry and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, ice sports are having a moment. And on Jan. 22, another frosty obsession enters the chat.

Based on Jennifer Iacopelli’s 2022 novel of the same name, Finding Her Edge follows teen figure skater Adriana as she juggles her Olympic dreams with family pressure and a twisty love triangle. As Iacopelli recently told HELLO! of the new Netflix series, it does have a few things in common with its fellow rink romance, Heated Rivalry — like its ice-sports backdrop and Canadian talent, including the actor Aidan Shaw, who appears in both series.

The collision of young love and high-profile competition also plays a role in both shows. “Our yearning manifests differently when the yearning becomes too much — we are a family show — but it is genuine teenage yearning that I adore, the way you see it in The Summer I Turn Pretty, or All the Boys,” Iacopelli explained.

‘Finding Her Edge’ Everything You Need to Know About Netflix’s New YA Ice-Skating Drama

Netflix has just released its new teen ice-skating series, based on Jennifer Iacopelli’s book. Headlined by Madelyn Keys and Cale Ambrozic, the series premiered globally on the streamer on January 22nd, 2026. Here’s everything you need to know.

The eight-episode first season, with episodes running approximately 44 minutes each, was first unveiled in early 2025. Production began in mid-February 2025 in Barrie, Orillia, and surrounding communities in Ontario and wrapped by May.

Netflix was originally due to broadcast the series alongside Family Channel in Canada, the network owned by WildBrain. However, as confirmed over the Summer and coming into effect as of October 2025, the network has permanently shut down alongside three others as its distribution deals had been ended. We can also reveal the series will be aired in Canada on Radio-Canada and its respective streaming service.

Stranger Things season five vol 2 review – the fact that this isn’t unbearable is a miracle

Yes, the kids are now 90% Adam’s apple. Yes, Winona Ryder has been unforgivably sidelined. And yes, some characters are trapped in a room filling with yoghurt. But despite our misgivings, this show still absolutely slaps

Listen, this isn’t the place for newcomers. Stranger Things has been around for almost a decade, and it has spent almost all this time building a mythology that has grown so unwieldy that trying to explain it would cost me my wordcount and my will to live.

However, in fairness, this new penultimate batch of episodes gives it a good try. The content of these new episodes can neatly be split into three categories. There’s action, which is high-octane and fun, and probably why you’re watching. Then there’s dialogue, which is less successful because it causes characters to stop moving and emote at each other, even though they should probably be concentrating on the imminent end of the world.

Stranger Things: What could happen next as the show's finale looms?

Spoiler warning: This contains some details about what has happened in the show so far, but does not reveal anything about the final four episodes.

A Christmas feast may be around the corner, or perhaps another chocolate (no strawberry creams, thanks), but for fans of Stranger Things, another gift is waiting to be consumed.

The grand finale of Netflix’s hugely popular sci-fi fantasy horror series, which also showcases some questionable 80s fashion choices, is looming.

Netflix hits back at Diddy's criticism of 'shameful' documentary

Netflix has insisted its new documentary about Sean "Diddy" Combs, produced by rapper 50 Cent, is "not a hit piece or an act of retribution", following criticism from the jailed former hip-hop mogul.

A spokesman for Combs called the four-part documentary, titled Sean Combs: The Reckoning, "a shameful hit piece" that "relied on stolen footage".

It includes what Netflix described as "explosive" footage filmed in the days before his arrest, including a phone conversation with his lawyer. Combs was convicted of prostitution-related charges in July.

His spokesman said it was "fundamentally unfair, and illegal" to use his private recordings, but Netflix said the material was obtained legally.

Sean Combs: The Reckoning review – you can see why the musician is fighting to ban this horrific documentary

Netflix’s series feels like the point of no return for the rapper and mogul. It’s so thorough in its harrowing detail that it will surely block any chance he ever had of a return to stardom

If its subject gets his way, the new documentary series Sean Combs: The Reckoning might not be available on Netflix for long. On Monday, lawyers on behalf of Combs sent a cease and desist letter to the streamer, demanding that the series be withdrawn based on the inclusion of footage that they claim violates copyright, and involves discussions of “legal strategy that were not intended for public viewing”.

Last Samurai Standing, a Netflix series launching Thursday, is set in a Japan where the feudal samurai era is about to end.

The hero, Saga Kokushu, played by Junichi Okada, is one of dozens of samurai in a live-or-die survival game to save family, community and honor.

‘Last Samurai Standing’ Review: Netflix’s Fusion of ‘Squid Game’ and ‘Shogun’ Doesn’t Soar, but It Satisfies

Junichi Okada stars, produces and did the action choreography on this six-part series about a nefarious game pitting samurai against each other in 19th-century Japan.

The press notes for Netflix‘s new action drama Last Samurai Standing are careful to mention that the series “has been in development since 2022, a vision that predates even the development of Squid Game.” I assume that’s a typo, since Squid Game premiered on Netflix in 2021. But the exact phrasing and even the actual truth are close to irrelevant.

Whether Last Samurai Standing was put into development before Squid Game became a global sensation and FX’s Shōgun emerged as an awards juggernaut truly doesn’t matter — because every critic and every viewer is going to call the series Squid Game meets Shōgun, a comparison that isn’t an accusation of theft so much as a very, very accurate description of narrative similarity. Under what circumstances is being Squid Game meets Shōgun anything other than a boon?

Season 2 & 3 for Netflix’s Massive Japanese Show With 100% RT Score Teased

Netflix’s new Japanese hit, Last Samurai Standing’s creator, Michihito Fujii, has now teased plans for Season 2 and 3, fueling fan excitement for the series that has already got a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Last Samurai Standing creator Michihito Fujii opened up about his vision for the show beyond its bloody first season in an interview with ScreenRant. When asked how many seasons he would need to tell the full story, Fujii said, “Two or three seasons.”

However, the director also showed a keen awareness of the realities of modern streaming, where long gaps between seasons can cause viewers to lose the thread of a narrative. This practical concern influenced his approach to the initial batch of episodes.
