It feels nearly impossible to predict exactly what those moves will be, though. There's uncertainty once we get beyond the first overall pick this year, so hats off to the teams for keeping things close to the vest.

Programming note: Tune in for live coverage of Round 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft beginning at 8 p.m. ET on April 23 on NFL Network, NFL+, the NFL Channel, ABC, ESPN and ESPN Deportes.

Mel Kiper Jr. and Tim Hasselbeck weigh in on whether Jeremiyah Love should be a top-10 NFL draft pick. (1:46)

Ahead of the 2026 NFL draft, it's important to remember that team fit can sometimes be more important than talent. In order for the top prospects like Arvell Reese, Jeremiyah Love and Mansoor Delane to reach their star potential, they need the right scheme to maximize their skill set.

I took it upon myself to come up with the 20 best player-to-team matches for Rounds 1 and 2. I factored in player strengths and weaknesses, organizational needs, schemes and coaching staff tendencies. A lot of the tendencies are speculative, as the 10 head coaching changes from this offseason will lead to plenty of system changes. But the overall idea was to find spots where players would be put in a position to succeed because of their traits and the team's existing infrastructure.

Mendoza has been the overwhelming favorite to go No. 1 for months. At this point, it would be shocking if the Raiders were to go in another direction. Tom Brady's public praise of Mendoza's game and leadership only adds to the sense that Las Vegas views him as the franchise quarterback to build around.

NFL free agency: From Matthew Stafford to Fernando Mendoza, early winners and losers

The Baltimore Ravens seem committed to maximizing Lamar Jackson’s championship window, the Philadelphia Eagles still have A.J. Brown’s contractual rights and the Seattle Seahawks let their Super Bowl MVP walk in free agency.

But beyond the obvious implications of 2026 NFL free agency’s biggest moves, what are the underrated implications of this year’s cycle?

In light of the NFL’s legal tampering window opening Monday, following an active week of trades and high-profile scheduled releases, here are Yahoo Sports’ winners and losers from the beginning of free agency:

Kenneth Walker’s chance at a Super Bowl MVP repeat: In order to repeat as Super Bowl MVP, you’ve got to repeat on the Super Bowl stage. And while the Seattle Seahawks showed they could go all the way this season, the Kansas City Chiefs in the Patrick Mahomes era have shown they can go all the way and then get back there again. So in signing with the Chiefs in free agency, Walker didn’t settle for money without a chance to be competitive. He joined a team that values playing at your best on the biggest stage, which Walker did both in a 135-yard, 5-yards-per-carry Super Bowl performance as well as his 116-yard, three-touchdown performance in a divisional round win over the San Francisco 49ers. Monday’s news that tight end Travis Kelce will return to the Chiefs for another year, per multiple reports, further suggests the 2026 Chiefs can still contend even if they are retooling their roster.

Rondale Moore, 25, died on Saturday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey, who told multiple local media outlets that Moore's body was found in a garage. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday, per WLKY-TV. Moore was born and grew up in New Albany, Indiana.

Moore spent his first three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, which selected him with the No. 49 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, before moving to the Atlanta Falcons, where he also suffered a preseason knee injury that prevented him from playing in 2024.

Peter Schrager and Stephen A. Smith agree the Patriots should not be viewed as the AFC favorites entering next season. (1:53)

Super Bowl LX is in the books. The Seattle Seahawks, who entered the season with a 1.1% chance to win the Super Bowl based on ESPN Analytics projections, beat the New England Patriots 29-13 to take home the Lombardi Trophy.

Now begins the process of building the Super Bowl LXI champions through an offseason that will be characterized, in part, by the usual imbalance of available quarterbacks relative to demand. Nearly a third of the NFL could be seeking a new quarterback this offseason, but the 2026 draft is projected to be particularly light at the position, and no stars are looming in free agency.

2026 NFL Free Agency: The Top 100 Players Available and Potential Fits

The Super Bowl is over, but one of the key offseason events that might shape next year's Super Bowl champion is only a month away.

NFL free agency opens on March 9, and players can start officially signing with new teams on March 11. Between now and then, many of these players will come off the market, re-signing with their original teams or getting the franchise tag. Over a billion dollars worth of new contracts will be written by NFL teams in a short amount of time.

We don't want this list to be strictly financial, so we've tried to hit on a variety of positions, touching on offense and defense, players old and young. Again, the best players rarely make it to the open market, so talent is hard to find and value is even tougher. You will see teams cut veteran players to get under the salary cap in the next month, including players good enough to crack this list.

Ranking the top 50 NFL free agents: Early look at the stars who could hit the market in March

The 2026 Super Bowl is just days away with the New England Patriots set to face the Seattle Seahawks.

The front offices and fan bases of 30 teams can now begin to shift their attention to free agency and dream about what could be in 2026. Free agency in the NFL isn't as foolproof as other sports with many players' production being incredibly scheme dependent and personnel dependent.

However, that won't stop us here at CBS Sports from projecting the NFL's top 50 agents in 2026 and the years to come. These rankings will include the top players whose contracts are up with their rankings being driven by their respective impact right now. Age, positional value and production are obviously key factors. So too are things like injury history.

NFL fans furious over Super Bowl commercial: ‘Should be illegal’

The Super Bowl had yet to kick off Sunday evening when some fans were already upset with one of the commercials.

Following the national anthem and before the start of the game, NBC cut to a commercial for “Scream 7″ — a horror film that is set to come out later this month.

Needless to say, people were not happy about an ad for a scary movie being shown as families tuned in for the Super Bowl.

"Showing a commercial for ‘Scream7′ at 5:30 pm right after the National Anthem and right before the Super Bowl kickoff should absolutely be illegal. So absurd,“ one fan said.

‘Scream 7’ Shouting To Mid $30Ms Opening At U.S. Box Office – Early Look

Paramount and Spyglass Media’s Scream 7 came on domestic tracking with a mid $30M opening in store when it arrives in theaters on Feb. 27. If those numbers hold, it could be the second highest opening in the 30-year-old franchise stateside after Scream VI‘s record $44.4M opening; that 2023 installment fueled by the Jenna Ortega Wednesday phenomenon.

Currently, Scream 7 is great with the 17-34 bunch and multicultural audiences across definite interest and first choice. Tickets don’t go on sale until Monday after the pic’s pre-Game Super Bowl spot. Advance ticket sales are typically a better indication of demand. Right now tracking has Scream 7 coming on higher than Scream VI, The Conjuring: Last Rites ($84M) and Final Destination: Bloodlines ($51.6M) in First Choice. There’s an argument that with lower grossing movies like Send Help and Iron Lung presently on tracking, most forecasts are inflated.

Where All 32 NFL Teams Stood When Seahawks and Patriots Last Met in Super Bowl

A lot was different in sports the last time that the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks met in the Super Bowl on Feb. 1, 2015.

The San Francisco Giants had just won their third World Series in five years (2010, 2012 and 2014); Ohio State defeated 2014 Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota and the Oregon Ducks in the first-ever College Football Playoff National Championship the month prior; projected lottery picks Jahlil Okafor and Justise Winslow were leading Duke on what became a National Championship season; the Golden State Warriors were ascending into an NBA powerhouse under first-year head coach Steve Kerr and went on to win the franchise's first championship in 40 years.

Who won the Super Bowl last year?

Super Bowl 60 between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots is fast approaching. When it all goes on Sunday, February 8, in Santa Clara, California, at Levi's Stadium, one team will walk away as a new champion and with a year's worth of bragging rights.

If you're here, you may be wondering: who won the Super Bowl last year?

Here's the answer: The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22.

Philadelphia was up 24-0 on Kansas City at halftime and never looked back, despite a 16-point fourth-quarter surge from the Chiefs. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts won MVP.

NFL inks multiyear deal for more regular-season games in Madrid

MADRID — The NFL said Monday it will play more regular-season games in Madrid.

The league announced it has reached a multiyear deal to keep playing at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

It did not immediately say the length of the new agreement or which teams will play in 2026.

The first NFL regular-season game in Spain was played at the Bernabeu in November, as the Miami Dolphins defeated the Washington Commanders 16-13 in overtime before a crowd of 78,610.

It was the seventh — and final — international game of the season, the most ever in one year for the league as it continues to expand globally.

NFL announces multiyear return to Mexico City for regular season games starting in 2026

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO — The National Football League will return to Mexico City to play regular season games for the next three years at iconic Estadio Banorte, starting in the 2026 season.

The NFL has also extended its long-standing broadcast partnership with TelevisaUnivision, an official media partner for the last 60 years, as part of the league's commitment to increasing fan access to live games and NFL programming in Mexico, and to continue to grow the sport's reach nationwide.

"We are delighted to bring regular‑season NFL games back to Mexico City beginning in 2026, reaffirming our deep and long‑standing connection with fans across the country," said NFL Mexico Director General Arturo Olivé. "Estadio Banorte has hosted some incredibly memorable moments in our international history, and returning here underscores our commitment to growing the sport at every level in the market. We are also pleased to extend and expand our broadcast partnership with TelevisaUnivision, ensuring fans nationwide can enjoy greater access to NFL programming on Canal 5 and Canal 9. This is an exciting moment for the NFL in Mexico, and we look forward to building on this momentum for years to come."

Stephen A. Smith sounds off on the ramifications of the Patriots losing to Broncos QB Jarrett Stidham, who hasn't thrown a pass in two years. (1:33)

The NFL playoffs' conference championship round for the 2025 season has two great matchups, and we have you covered with what you need to know for both.

First, Patriots QB Drake Maye heads on the road for the first time in the playoffs to face a Broncos team that will be without QB Bo Nix (ankle) in the AFC title game. And then the weekend caps off with an NFC West battle between the surging Rams and Seahawks for the chance to go to the Super Bowl.

Here’s everything you need to know about Sunday’s NFL conference championship games

The theme of the 2025 NFL playoffs has been “out with the old,” with Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow all watching from home. That theme continues in the conference championship round — for the first time in 14 years, all four participants are new from the previous season, as the Broncos host the Patriots and the Seahawks host the Rams.

â–ª First some of the factoids: the Broncos are 4-1 all-time against the Patriots in the postseason, including 4-0 in Denver; the Patriots have 39 all-time postseason wins, tied with the 49ers for most in the NFL; the Broncos are looking for their ninth Super Bowl appearance, which would be second-most behind the Patriots (11).

NFL Championship Sunday bold predictions: Jarrett Stidham bests Drake Maye; Rashid Shaheed explodes

Jarrett Stidham outduels Drake Maye to send Broncos to Super Bowl

Stidham has not thrown a pass in a real game since Week 18 of the 2023 season, which might not engender a ton of confidence among those outside of the Broncos facility. But the Bo Nix replacement rises to the occasion and throws for 300 yards and three touchdowns, outplaying New England's MVP candidate to send Denver to the Super Bowl a decade after the franchise lifted its third Lombardi Trophy.

The always-dangerous Shaheed got the Seahawks off to a hot start last week with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He takes advantage of the Rams' special teams woes and returns another kick for a score this week. But the electric speed merchant doesn’t stop there. Los Angeles also has struggled against out-wide receivers and defending the deep ball. Shaheed exploits that and adds a touchdown reception of 40-plus yards.

NFL playoff picture: How the Houston Texans can clinch a playoff berth in Week 17

After starting the season with a three-game losing streak and running their record to 3-5 over the first half of the season, Houston enters the penultimate weekend of the 2025 NFL campaign riding a seven-game winning streak, with a 10-5 record. That has Houston on the cusp of a playoff spot, which they can clinch this weekend.

Here is how the Texans can book their spot in the NFL Playoffs.

The Texans take on the Los Angeles Chargers, a team that has already clinched a playoff spot, at SoFi Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Houston will clinch a playoff spot with a win or a tie in that game.

How Texans overcame 0-3 start to verge of playoffs, ‘win-and-in’ game vs. Chargers: ‘We knew it was a good team

LOS ANGELES – Inside a hallway at NRG Stadium on Christmas Eve, steps away from the Texans’ locker room, Derek Stingley Jr. contemplated the question and delivered a message soaked in belief and confidence.

When the Texans were winless after three games, there was a lot of panic in the city of Houston and a disappointed and frustrated fan base. Some of it was reactionary and over the top, a sky is falling mentality. Some of the criticism, especially about a lackluster offense and questionable play-calling and personnel decisions, was on point.

The most important thing for the Texans was sticking together and not pointing fingers. That’s easier said than done, particularly when there’s a chorus of nonstop noise and doubt. The blame game isn’t played by winning football teams.
