Nicola Coughlan is sick of the subject of “body positivity”, and thank God, because so am I. “The thing I say sometimes that pisses people off is I have no interest in body positivity,” she said in a recent interview. Like Coughlan and no doubt many, many other women, I’m sick of talking about it, thinking about it, reading about it, all of it (I do recognise a certain irony in my writing about it, but hear me out). In the same interview, Coughlan recounted an encounter with a fan: “I remember this really drunk girl once talking to me in a bathroom being like, ‘I loved [Bridgerton] because of your body’ and started talking about my body, and I was like, ‘I want to die. I hate this so much.’”

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan explained that she has "no interest" in body positivity, explaining how "bizarre" it was to be described as plus-size even after losing a "bunch of weight."

The Bridgerton actress, who stars as Penelope on the Netflix show, explained that she has no desire to speak about her body or her weight loss.

"The thing I say sometimes that pisses people off is, ‘I have no interest in body positivity,’" she told Elle in an interview published March 4. "When I was a kid growing up, I never thought about that. I didn’t look at actors and think about their bodies. So, I actually don’t care."

Bridgerton actress Nicola Coughlan has spoken out about fans who body-shamed her during her nude scenes in the successful Netflix series, calling the comments “bizarre” and “f….d”.

The 39-year-old Irish star enjoyed breakout success for her role in Derry Girls, but is more recently known for her portrayal as Penelope Featherington in the period drama’s fourth season.

Coughlan, who is dating actor Jake Dunn, 52, told Elle magazine she was proud to belong to the “perfect-breast community” after viewers watching the show discussed her weight and size.

“You know what was really bizarre was, when I was shooting that series, I was exercising a lot because I knew I had to, so I had lost a bunch of weight – I was probably a size 10, and one of the corsets was a size 8,” she said.
