Sources: Nintendo is planning a new Star Fox and a major Zelda remake this year, but no 3D Mario

A ‘classic-style’ Star Fox game will be released for Switch 2 this summer, it’s claimed

Nintendo is reportedly planning to release a major Zelda remake and a new Star Fox game this year, but a 3D Mario game won’t arrive on Switch 2 until 2027.

That’s according to prominent Nintendo insider ‘Natthehate’, who’s shared a plethora of information on the company’s 2026 plans, which matches with what VGC has heard from our own sources.

In a new podcast, the Nintendo sleuth claimed a “classic” Star Fox revival is planned for release on Switch 2 this Summer, hot on the heels of Fox McCloud’s confirmed appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

It looks like we're finally getting an Ocarina of Time remake

After years of rumors and countless fan-made Unreal Engine tech demos of varying quality, it sounds like we might finally be getting a ground-up remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

That’s according to Nintendo insider NatetheHate, who said in the latest edition of his podcast that a remake of the seminal Nintendo 64 game would be coming to Switch 2 in the second half of 2026. The reliable tipster said he doesn’t know whether Nintendo is making a 1:1 remake of the original 3D Zelda entry, or something "that’s a little more free to explore design choices," adding that he was initially reluctant to share the information he’d received in case we ended up getting little more than an HD remaster. But it sounds like this is a more ambitious undertaking than that.

RUMOR: Super Metroid remake coming from MercurySteam, alongside a new Metroid game

The Nintendo rumor mill has been going strong lately. We just got hit with some big rumors about a potential new Star Fox game and an Ocarina of Time remake, and now more remake talk is here. This time it has to do with the Metroid series, which just saw the release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond in December.

According to a leaker going by malo932 on YouTube, there is a Super Metroid remake in the works from developer MercurySteam. This is the same team behind Metroid: Dread and the Metroid: Samus Returns remake on 3DS. Supposedly this remake would employ a pixel art style of some kind. In addition, it’s been reported that MercurySteam is also in development on a brand new Metroid game that would serve as a follow-up to Dread.

Nintendo Direct February 2026: Everything we want to see

Nintendo Direct is happening this week, so it's time to round up all our speculation about what the games giant will unveil.

The livestream will air on Nintendo's YouTube Channel at 6am PT/9am ET on Thursday, Feb. 5. It's listed as a Nintendo Direct partner showcase for third-party games, which means the likelihood of seeing any first-party Nintendo games is pretty low, if not zero.

That doesn't mean we can't expect excitement, however. The show is 30 minutes long and features games for both Switch and Switch 2.

Here's what we expect to see, and would like to see, from the showcase.
