The Diplomat review – nothing else on TV is as entertaining as this exquisitely stressful show

Keri Russell is still trying to stop a sea of berks who are one bad hair day away from starting a nuclear war – only this time, the cortisol levels and the sauciness have been ramped up even further

The Russian submarine is on the fritz and as such remains at the bottom of the North Sea. Its fancy nuclear missile, meanwhile, has been purloined by the Americans in an operation presumably entitled Let’s Flush Our Alliance With the Brits Down the Bog (and potentially instigate the third word war while we’re at it). The prime minister, Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear), remains oblivious and a berk. The Russians are similarly unaware of the theft, for now at least, but the US ambassador to the UK, Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), predicts the eventual discovery will blast the Kremlin’s ushankas skywards. “Russia will come to get their sub,” she warns her unblinking husband – and current US vice president – Hal (Rufus Sewell). “They will lose their shit when they find their apocalypse weapon is gone and they will attack the United Kingdom!” “Hmm,” replies Hal, who has, one suspects, shiftier fish to fry. “Mmm.”

The Diplomat returns to prove old-school brinkmanship still sells

Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell deliver top-tier performances while navigating Windsor Castle security breaches and Russian nukes.

What does it say about the times we live in when works of a political fabulist play straighter than real life? It must be challenging for writer-creators such as Debora Cahn (The West Wing), whose cracking drama, The Diplomat, is back for a fourth run.

'Nothing untoward here': Lyon plays down King surgery, injury not tendon related

The St Kilda coach expects his star forward to be back in full training before season's end

ST KILDA coach Ross Lyon has played down the significance of Max King undergoing hamstring surgery, saying it wasn't a tendon-related problem.

King's season from hell officially ended on July 26 when he strained his hamstring in what was his first AFL match since 2024.

The 26-year-old has undergone surgery to fix the issue, but Lyon said it wasn't anything too serious and is backing the injury-prone spearhead to be up and running in time for a strong off-season.

"There's certain parts of the hamstring that need a slight intervention and take out risk going forward of a recurrence, so that's what's occurred.

Emily Arthur holding nothing back for her third Olympic chapter

At 26, Emily Arthur stands at the top of the Milano Cortina halfpipe with a feeling she didn’t quite have in PyeongChang or Beijing: a calm, grounded sense of maturity and a desire to enjoy every moment.

The Australian Olympic Committee acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of this nation.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of all the lands on which we are located. We pay our respects to ancestors and Elders, past and present.

We celebrate and honour all of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Olympians.

The Australian Olympic Committee is committed to honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas and their rich contribution to society and sport.

'Nothing to lose': Emily Arthur soars into her third Olympics

Emily Arthur of Woronora Heights is set to take on the world's best once again as she prepares to represent Australia in the snowboard halfpipe at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

The 26-year-old, who was born in Kogarah before finding her feet on a snowboard at age six, carries the hopes of the Sutherland Shire community as she enters her third Olympic campaign.

It is a journey that has come full circle for the former St John Bosco College student, who graduated in 2017. Her old school, "Team Bosco," remains one of her loudest cheering squads, recently stating on social media that Emily's determination has turned her childhood dreams into a reality: "Go get it, Emily! Your Engadine community is right behind you."

Emily Arthur Qualifies for Her Third Olympics, Soars with Confidence

Emily Arthur has qualified for her third Olympics, showcasing remarkable confidence and ability in the halfpipe event. This achievement marks a significant milestone in her snowboarding career.

For the first time since 2014, Australia was set to send three women to compete in the halfpipe at the Olympics. Emily Arthur, a veteran rider, took on the role of mentor for her fellow teammates. Misaki Vaughan, aged 20, and Amelie Haskell, aged 18, were part of this historic representation.

Unfortunately, Misaki Vaughan has been ruled out of the competition due to an injury sustained during training. Her withdrawal was a setback for the Australian team, but the spirit of the squad remains strong.
