    'Off the charts' aurora australis puts on spectacular show across Australia

    The aurora australis has put on a light show across many Australian states.

    There are reports the phenomenon was visible as far north as Queensland.

    The chance to witness auroras may decline in coming years because of the sun entering a new phase, an expert says.

    An impressive aurora australis has been seen in many parts of Australia, reportedly reaching as far north as Hamilton Island in Queensland. 

    Tuesday night's light show was caused by a severe solar storm hitting the Earth.

    People have reported the phenomenon across Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia.

    Aurora australis set to light up Australian sky as agencies monitor ‘severe’ solar storm

    The spectacular aurora australis, also known as the southern lights, may be visible as far north as Victoria and New South Wales

    A ‘severe’ solar storm, which is being monitored by the National Emergency Management Agency, could make auroras visible in Australia as well as cause disruptions to the power grid.
    Here’s what you need to know about the solar storm.

These include the Australian Open, Roland-Garros, The Championships – Wimbledon, and the US Open. The new livery has been painted onto A6-EUH, a nine-year-old Airbus A380-800.

    Emirates remains a proud sponsor of international tennis, and the new livery is set to showcase tennis-inspired elements, including the Grand Slam logo for each tournament, featured with a tennis ball emblem, rendered in each tournament's signature colours.

    With the livery now taking flight, the livery features the tournament's signature colour,s which includes the summer blue of the Australian Open, Red-Clay of the iconic Roland Garros, green and purple for Wimbledon, and the yellow of the US Open. These are all collaboratively combined to creatively represent each tournament in the design.

    People coming off weight-loss injections risk fast weight gain

    Slimmers who come off weight-loss injections such as Mounjaro or Wegovy can regain their lost pounds four times faster than those who stop conventional dieting and exercising, new research suggests.

    Data published in the British Medical Journal suggests overweight people shed large amounts when using jabs – about a fifth of their body weight – but once they quit they regain 0.8 kg every month, on average.

    That means they return to their pre-treatment weight in a year and a half.

    "People buying these need to be aware of the risk of fast weight regain when the treatment ends," warns investigator Dr Susan Jebb, from Oxford University.

    Stopping weight-loss jabs leads to much faster rebound than thought – so are they still worth it?

    Sam West receives funding from the National Institute of Health Research and is a co-investigator on three weight loss trials funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

    Dimitrios Koutoukidis receives funding from the National Institute of Health Research and is principal investigator in publicly-funded investigator-led research studies where Oviva and Nestle Health Sciences have contributed to the costs or delivery of weight-loss interventions.     Laura Carden-Lovell, head of operations at Transfer Travel, says the trend reflects how Americans use their time off. Vacation days in the United States are uneven and often scarce, and “that constraint is reflected in how trips are planned,” Carden-Lovell said in an email.

    Workers in France can take 17-day break using only eight days of leave in 2026

    Workers in France benefit from five long weekends this year, and with a potential three ‘ponts’ possible taking paid holidays between weekends and holidays, 2026 is a fruitful year for holiday plans.

    With three public holidays on Fridays and a further two on Mondays, workers are guaranteed these long weekends by default. 

    In addition, three more holidays fall on either a Tuesday or a Thursday, with one falling on a Wednesday. Note however one of these was January 1, which has already passed.

    Employees can ask for time off between the weekend and the bank holiday to benefit from a four- or five-day weekend by only taking only one or two days of paid leave, known in France as ‘faire le pont’ or ‘making the bridge’.
