    Police operation currently underway in Whitlam

    A 39-year-old man is in police custody following an earlier incident in Whitlam.

    He has not been charged at this time and no other people are being sought by police.

    Some roadblocks are still in place and police remain on scene to conduct enquires.

    An ACT Policing operation is currently underway in Whitlam following an incident earlier this afternoon.

    Residents of Whitlam are advised to remain indoors and to please follow police direction as roadblocks are in place. Anyone who is not returning to their homes is asked to avoid the area.

    Whitlam residents were told to stay indoors for their own safety amid a police operation which shut down a street with at least a dozen police cars, four ambulances and two fire trucks.

    Breaking: Police operation underway in Western Sydney after public place shooting

    A large police operation is underway in Western Sydney after a man was killed when he was shot several times.

    NSW Police said about 12:25pm on Friday emergency services treated one person on Carinya Street in Blacktown for gunshot wounds to his neck, chest and leg.

    He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics but he could not be saved.

    Police attempted to stop a Mazda ute seen leaving the scene and after a short pursuit, two people were arrested on the adjoining Kildare Road.

    "There is a large emergency services presence in the area, with police establishing a perimeter," the statement said.

    Two people have been arrested after crashing a ute used to allegedly flee the scene of a fatal daylight shooting in Sydney’s west.

    Emergency services were called to the scene of a shooting on Carinya Street at Blacktown about 11.50 am on Friday.

    A man believed to be aged in his 20s died at the scene after being shot in the neck, chest and leg.
