Nancy Grewal death: Mother accuses hardliners in Canada of murder; ancestral Ludhiana village residents tight-lipped

Residents of Narangwal village in Ludhiana district, the ancestral home of slain social media influencer Nancy Grewal, are somber but largely tight-lipped about her death, which is alleged to have been linked to her outspoken nature.

Leaders from various political and social organisations have condemned the assassination, arguing that governance worldwide is increasingly heading toward anarchy.

While locals could provide little information about Nancy’s parents or grandparents, they confirmed that her family was closely related to former Panch Ranjit Singh Grewal. The family later moved to nearby Jodhan village on the Pakhowal-Ludhiana road. Some family members reportedly reside in Jalandhar.

Origin coaches brush off concerns over any conflict of interest

AAMI AFL Origin coaches Chris Scott and Dean Cox have laughed off concerns they will use their positions to lure some of the AFL's biggest stars to their clubs

CHRIS Scott has brushed off Ken Hinkley's concerns about AAMI AFL Origin coaches having a conflict of interest, joking his presence at Victoria may even put off players from joining Geelong.

Scott will coach Victoria in Saturday's Origin blockbuster at Optus Stadium, with Sydney coach Dean Cox given the reins of Western Australia.

Hinkley, who coached Port Adelaide for 13 years before standing down at the end of last season, has raised concerns about the potential for Origin coaches to lure the AFL's biggest stars to their respective clubs.

Star raids? AFL boss responds to ‘absolute advantage’ criticism of Origin coaches

AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon has defended the decision to have current club coaches in charge of State of Origin teams after criticism from Ken Hinkley that there may be a conflict of interest.

Hinkley suggested on SEN it was “an absolute advantage” for Victorian coaches Chris Scott and Sam Mitchell and Western Australia bosses Dean Cox and Justin Longmuir to “create a connection” with the game’s top stars and potentially help poach them to their clubs down the track.

Chris Scott has declared that AFL clubs have been speaking to rival players for years in response to claims he will use his time as Victorian coach to form connections with potential Geelong recruits.

Scott said there was as much chance he would turn players off as he would be to win them over while he was embedded as a State Of Origin leader in Perth.

The identity of a Roman-era individual found in southern England has finally been resolved after scientists at the Natural History Museum were able to sequence high quality DNA from her skeletal remains.

Once theorized to have origins in sub-Saharan Africa or possibly the Mediterranean, the first comprehensive scientific study to be carried out on the Beachy Head Woman has revealed that her origins were in fact much closer to home.

The nationwide team led by Dr. Selina Brace and Dr. William Marsh at London's Natural History Museum and Andy Walton of University College London, re-examined the ~2,000-year-old individual with the latest technologies and today announced that Beachy Head Woman descended from the local British population of Roman-era southern England. The findings are published in the Journal of Archaeological Science.

True origin of 'first black Briton' revealed

Scientists have shed light on the true origins of the so-called "first black Briton".

The skeletal remains – dating from Roman times – were previously thought to belong to a woman from the sub-Saharan region.

This had led her to be dubbed "one of the earliest Africans in Britain".

But scientists have now said they cannot find DNA evidence that indicates she had recent ancestry from Africa.

They detailed in a paper published online on Wednesday that she actually had a strong genetic similarity to individuals from rural Britain.

She likely had blue eyes, between pale and dark skin and light hair, scientists added.

Beachy Head Woman may be ‘local girl from Eastbourne’, say scientists

Exclusive: DNA advances show Roman-era skeleton, once hailed as first black Briton, came from southern England

Beachy Head Woman, a Roman-era skeleton once hailed as the earliest known black Briton and who scientists later speculated could be of Cypriot descent, has now been shown to have originated from southern England.

The mystery of the skeleton’s shifting identity was finally resolved after advances in DNA sequencing produced a high-quality genetic readout from the remains.

Previously, forensic anthropologists had suggested that the woman may have been of sub-Saharan Africa origin based on an analysis of the skull and, in 2016, a plaque was erected to “to commemorate the first black Briton”.
