Naomi Osaka unleashes inner leopard with custom Nike "huntress" kit in victorious Indian Wells return

The 2018 champion made her first appearance since withdrawing at the Australian Open.

Naomi Osaka stepped out for her opening match with Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva on Friday evening at the BNP Paribas Open. Naturally, she came prepared with a new look for Indian Wells.

Taking Stadium 1, the 2018 champion rocked a leopard-inspired outfit. The head-to-toe ensemble included ear and mouth accessories, a rad pair of matching sneakers and a bag that incorporated the animal print into her custom logo.

But perhaps the most notable element of her latest kit was the intention behind the material on the dress.

“It’s a fabric that shifts when I move. So depending on the light, it will change colors,” she shared during an on-court interview.

Today, Naomi Osaka marks her grand return to Indian Wells—aka the BNP Paribas Open—in the California desert: The four-time Grand Slam winner, seeded 16th, is facing off against Andorra’s 97th-ranked Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva, marking Osaka’s first tournament since withdrawing from the Australian Open in January due to a persistent abdominal injury. “I’m feeling really inspired,” Osaka told Vogue days before the big match. “Indian Wells is one of those tournaments that has its own energy—the desert, the light, the crowd. It feels cinematic in a way. I’m excited to step back into that space and compete again.”

Australian qualifier Maddison Inglis is through to the fourth round at Melbourne Park after four-time major winner Naomi Osaka withdrew from the tournament.

Only hours before their scheduled match on Saturday night, two-time AO champion Osaka announced she was withdrawing because of a physical issue

"I've had to make the difficult decision to withdraw to address something my body needs attention for after my last match," the 28-year-old wrote on her Instagram story.

Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the Australian Open ahead of her third-round match against Maddison Inglis.

Osaka says she could not play through an abdominal injury she is carrying.

Naomi Osaka has made a shock withdrawal from the Australian Open, handing Maddison Inglis her first appearance in the fourth round at a major.

Osaka was due to play Australian qualifier Inglis on Rod Laver Arena on Saturday evening.

Naomi Osaka already had the two biggest moments of the Australian Open: her show-stopping outfit in the opening round and her fiery exchange with Sorana Cirstea.

The devastating turn of events for Osaka – who pulled out due to an abdominal injury – has blown the tournament wide open for her opponent, Australian qualifier Maddison Inglis, who now automatically progresses to the fourth round.

EXCLUSIVE: Frosty Naomi Osaka incident can 'play on your mind' as Aussie qualifier eyes monumental upset

Former Aussie tennis star Casey Dellacqua says an incident like the one that rattled Naomi Osaka on Thursday night has the potential to linger on her mind during her third round Australian Open match.

And the wife of 10-time Aussie Open champion Novak Djokovic has taken a swipe at the Japanese superstar over her clash with Sorana Cirstea on Margaret Court Arena.

Cirstea appeared to take exception to Osaka speaking to herself in between her opponent's serves. Fans are not permitted to make noise in between first and second serve.

Australian Open 2026: Naomi Osaka and Sorana Cirstea have awkward handshake after Osaka's second-round win

Naomi Osaka has apologised for "disrespecting" Sorana Cirstea in her post-match on-court interview after she received a frosty handshake and a telling-off from the Romanian.

After wrapping up a 6-3 4-6 6-2 win against Cirstea in the Australian Open second round, a smiling Osaka made her way to the net to carry out the post-match formalities.

But Cirstea gave a brief handshake before exchanging some words with the Japanese 16th seed by the umpire's chair.

Asked in her on-court interview what it took to get past Cirstea, Osaka said: "Apparently a lot of 'come ons' that she was angry about."

Boris Becker hit out at the "contradiction" over Naomi Osaka's flamboyant entrance to the Australian Open.

The Japanese star walked out for her first-round match on Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday night wearing a jellyfish-inspired flowing green and white outfit accompanied by a white hat, veil and parasol.

While tennis' big names making fashion statements is far from new, Osaka's ensemble took things to a new level.

Former world No. 1 Becker, who is a pundit for TNT Sports, had mixed feelings about the look, saying: "These are, of course, images for the media.

Naomi Osaka’s jellyfish-inspired outfit steals the show at Australian Open

Over the years, tennis has had its share of noteworthy fashion moments. And Osaka added another in Melbourne

Naomi Osaka’s renowned 125mph serve is even faster than a jellyfish’s sting, which can cover 10 to 20 micrometres in less than one-millionth of a second. But it wasn’t just the invertebrate’s speed that the tennis player was calling on when she wore a jellyfish-inspired outfit to face Antonia Ruzic of Croatia in their first-round match at the Australian Open.

Entering Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, the 28-year-old tennis player’s look consisted of a pleated miniskirt over wide-legged trousers, a wide-brimmed hat with a white veil and a parasol. Jellyfish-esque elements were also incorporated into her on-court outfit, which featured a watery turquoise and green palette and soft frills on the warm-up jacket and dress, alluding to tentacles.

ATP United Cup Best Bets Including Tsitsipas vs Mochizuki

Jaume Munar has lost four of his last five matches. The last match he played was in last season’s Davis Cup, where he lost to Cobolli in three sets. This will be his opening match of the season. Munar performed well last season on hard courts.

Sebastian Baez has lost five straight matches. The last match he played was in November last season, when he lost to Guillen Meza on clay in straight sets. His previous win was in October in Shanghai, when he defeated Zhang in three tight sets. The Argentine struggled on hard courts last season.

According to the bookies, Munar is the heavy favourite in this matchup, and we agree. He performed well last season on fast courts and will have an edge on his serve. We expect him to dominate against Baez, who struggled in the second part of the 2025 season.

United Cup RR previews and predictions: Munar vs. Baez, Tsitsipas vs. Mochizuki

The 2026 tennis season kicks off on Friday, January 2 at the United Cup in Perth. Spain, Argentina, Greece, and Japan are taking the court on Day 1, with Jaume Munar and Stefanos Tsitsipas among those in action.Jaume Munar (ESP) vs. Sebastian Baez (ARG)Munar and Baez will be squaring off for the third time in their careers when Spain and Argentina collide at the United Cup on Friday. They have split their two previous encounters; Munar advanced via third-set retirement during 2021 Buenos Aires qualifying before Baez prevailed 6-4, 6-4 in another Golden Swing meeting — 2024 in Santiago.

Based on how 2025 transpired, Munar should regain the upper hand in this matchup. The 28-year-old Spaniard climbed to No. 33 in the world, putting himself in prime position to be seeded at the Australian Open. He wrapped up last season also playing for his country, compiling a 1-2 record in the Davis Cup Finals but playing extremely well in all three of his rubbers. Baez, on the other hand, slumped to a 17-24 record last year and he his game has never been effective on any surface other than clay.Pick: Munar in 2 #ays-poll-id-69570a7276f9b.box-apm { width: 600px; Naomi Osaka, Aryna Sabalenka, and Tennis Stars Stun on the Beach

The 2025 ATP Finals is down to its final days, and the WTA season already reached its thrilling conclusion last weekend. With almost all of the world's top tennis players done for the year, they are taking a much-needed break from the sport.

Despite dealing with soaring temperatures all season long, beaches (or at least warm weather destinations) are still the go-to choice for players vacationing during their extremely short off-season.

Luckily for fans, some of the most popular players share sneak peeks at their personal lives on social media. Below are some of the highlights from players' off-seasons.

The WTA World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka never hides how she relaxes during her breaks from training and competition. She likes to soak in the sun with a drink in her hand.
