Washington: Katherine Keating, daughter of former prime minister Paul Keating, has spoken out about her “unfortunate” friendship with Jeffrey Epstein after a long trail of emails between her and the convicted sex offender featured in the latest release of documents by the US Department of Justice.

The documents show how Keating maintained a social relationship with Epstein for several years in the early 2010s, regularly arranging to visit his New York mansion and seeking his career advice as she tried to build a career in the American television industry.

Katherine Keating tapped for Andrew image rehab, Epstein files show

Washington | Katherine Keating, the daughter of former prime minister Paul Keating, appears to have been enlisted to paint former British royal Andrew Mountbatten in a positive light to a journalist, according to newly released files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Hundreds of emails between Keating and Epstein, or his assistants, released on Friday (Saturday AEDT), shed new light on the pair’s friendship and suggest they socialised regularly between 2010 and 2013. In that period, the late disgraced financier had already served 13 months in prison after being convicted of child sex charges in 2008.

Sabalenka, Gauff grind out wins to advance at Australian Open

Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka overcame several bouts of inconsistent play Friday to beat Anastasia Potapova 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7) and advance to the fourth round at the Australian Open.

Third-seeded Coco Gauff also took a tough route through the third round, weathering early trouble against fellow American Hailey Baptiste before advancing with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory. Gauff cut down her unforced errors and did not serve any double-faults in the second set.

Sabalenka, chasing her third Australian Open title in four years, led 6-5 and 40-0 in the opening set but Potapova saved all three set points to send it to a tiebreaker. Sabalenka led 3-0 in the tiebreaker before Potapova leveled at 3-3.

'Emotionally all over the place' Sabalenka wins

Aryna Sabalenka won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024 before finishing runner-up last year

World number one Aryna Sabalenka said she was "emotionally all over the place" as she squeezed past Anastasia Potapova to reach the Australian Open fourth round.

The Belarusian, a heavy favourite for a title she has already won twice, was cruising at a set and 4-0 up.

However, the 27-year-old was left feeling "disconnected from my body" as 55th-ranked Potapova fought back, with Sabalenka forced to fend off four set points before clinching a 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (9-7) victory.

Afterwards, a reflective Sabalenka admitted it was a match she would have gone on to lose earlier in her career.

Australian qualifier Maddison Inglis is through to the fourth round at Melbourne Park after four-time major winner Naomi Osaka withdrew from the tournament.

Only hours before their scheduled match on Saturday night, two-time AO champion Osaka announced she was withdrawing because of a physical issue

"I've had to make the difficult decision to withdraw to address something my body needs attention for after my last match," the 28-year-old wrote on her Instagram story.

Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the Australian Open ahead of her third-round match against Maddison Inglis.

Osaka says she could not play through an abdominal injury she is carrying.

Inglis will play former world number one Iga Świątek in the fourth round.

Naomi Osaka has made a shock withdrawal from the Australian Open, handing Maddison Inglis her first appearance in the fourth round at a major.

Osaka was due to play Australian qualifier Inglis on Rod Laver Arena on Saturday evening.

But in the hours leading up to the match, Osaka announced she had pulled out of the tournament because of an abdominal injury.

Naomi Osaka already had the two biggest moments of the Australian Open: her show-stopping outfit in the opening round and her fiery exchange with Sorana Cirstea.

The devastating turn of events for Osaka – who pulled out due to an abdominal injury – has blown the tournament wide open for her opponent, Australian qualifier Maddison Inglis, who now automatically progresses to the fourth round.

Heat’s Kel’el Ware out for first time this season, sits at Sacramento due to hamstring | Heat…

Explore the latest developments concerning Heat’s Kel’el Ware.

    Heat's Kel'el Ware: Won't play Tuesday

Ware (hamstring) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game in Sacramento.

Ware is dealing with some tightness in his hamstring, so the Heat will err on the side of caution with their second-year center on the second leg of a back-to-back set. His absence will open up minutes for Nikola Jovic. For now, Ware should be considered questionable for Thursday's game in Portland.

Kel'el Ware now questionable for Heat tonight at Sacramento with tightness in his right hamstring.

Ware played 18 minutes in Monday’s loss to the Warriors. His fantasy upside has been limited when healthy in a decreased role.

As Adelaide rolls out the welcome mat to cycling world for Tour Down Under, I feel ashamed | Maeve Plouffe

Australia’s WorldTour race on my local roads fills me with pride, but as the years go on it feels like hosting international friends in a house that is visibly on fire

Sweat rolls off my brow as my legs roll powerless beneath me. Eyes fixed on my glowing bike computer screen, watching as my heart rate climbs faster than the power that can be produced by my legs. 150, 160, 170bpm. How long has that been? I wipe the bead of sweat obscuring the timer. Only five minutes.

I can barely squeeze in each breath, and the walls feel like they’re closing in. Yes, walls. Because it’s not the sun’s glare making this ride unbearable. Outside, it’s freezing. It’s October. But inside, we’re sealed within sterile white walls and glass windows glistening with condensation, sweat puddling on the floor.

The ground has shifted – this year, the balance of power is much more with the women at the Tour Down Under.

While the men's race next week is bigger and remains the flagship of the Adelaide cycling event, the women boast a stronger field.

For the first time, the women's Santos Tour has attracted all 14 WorldTour teams. The powerful Dutch-based SD Worx-Protime squad will make their Adelaide debut.

There's an old refrain that you're going to hear a lot in the next few weeks, and that's that the cycling season doesn't really start until Opening Weekend. A lot of people will joke – and some seriously believe – that everything before Omloop Het Nieuwsblad is basically just cycling friendlies, an extension of winter training.

Well, I'm here to tell them that they're wrong, and by subscribing to that point of view, you miss out on some of the best races of the year. With the Tour Down Under right around the corner, it's time for us to recognise and appreciate the actual start of the season.

Ravens kicker Tyler Loop hooks a 44-yard field goal as the Steelers win and claim the AFC North. (0:19)

The Baltimore Ravens fired John Harbaugh on Tuesday, ending the run of the most successful coach in franchise history.

His exit came two days after the Ravens lost to the rival Steelers in Pittsburgh 26-24 after missing a last-second field goal, which eliminated them from the playoffs for the first time since 2021. Harbaugh had signed a three-year deal last offseason and was under contract through the 2028 season.

John Harbaugh, Ravens end NFL's second-longest coaching tenure

John Harbaugh's 18-year run with the Baltimore Ravens has come to an end.

The Ravens announced they fired Harbaugh on Tuesday, Jan. 6, concluding the reign of the winningest coach in franchise history and second-longest tenure among active NFL coaches.

The decision comes in the aftermath of Sunday's season-ending loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who recaptured the lead in the final minute and then watched as Ravens rookie kicker Tyler Loop missed what would have been a game-winning 44-yard field goal as time expired. The loss not only sealed the AFC North title for the Steelers but also dropped Baltimore out of the playoffs with an 8-9 mark, just the third losing season of Harbaugh's entire career.

Baltimore Ravens fire head coach John Harbaugh after 18 seasons

The Baltimore Ravens have fired head coach John Harbaugh after an 18-season tenure with the franchise, the team announced Tuesday.

"This was an incredibly difficult decision, given the tremendous 18 years we have spent together and the profound respect I have for John as a coach and, most importantly, as a great man of integrity," Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said in a statement. "Throughout what I firmly believe is a Hall of Fame coaching career, John has delivered a Super Bowl championship to Baltimore and served as a steadfast pillar of humility and leadership. He and his family have deeply embedded themselves in this community. For these profound contributions, on and off the field, we should all be forever grateful."

‘Get out four times’: Aussie rookie’s unusual preparation for Test cricket’s ‘toughest job’

Jake Weatherald walked out onto the SCG turf alone on Saturday morning, armed with nothing but his bat.

The morning drizzle had cleared, so curators had already stripped back the covers and begun work on the pitch, painting the crease and mowing the grass.

Weatherald took guard at the adjacent pitch, a few metres from the deck that will be used during this week’s Ashes Test, and commenced his pre-match ritual. He tapped his bat on the surface, crouched into his trademark crabby stance, looked up at the other end and left alone an imaginary delivery.

The Tasmanian briefly stepped away before once again taking guard for a second delivery. Another leave.

From nine visits to the crease, Weatherald has managed 167 runs at 20.87.

Hardly the numbers to demand another Test and a decent enough sample size for selectors.

He’s struggled with balls on his stumps and I don’t think his balance has been where it needs to be throughout the series.

Head has certainly taken the pressure off Weatherald at the other end, but that 21 is his best Test return since the Gabba Test a month ago.
