Dog Park review – this charming comedy lures you in with dogs – but you’ll stay for the humans

Marketed as a comedy, the show is more of a light-touch drama, and it manages to sketch a fractious depiction of love that many will relate to

How do you create interesting drama themed around a dog park? If you’ve been to one before, it doesn’t exactly scream “riveting”. I approached the ABC’s new six-part series wondering: will random people from the dog park meet and bonk? Will various disputes erupt, perhaps over where the off-leash area begins and ends? Will class wars break out between the bourgeoisie (chihuahuas), the working class (German shepherds) and the unemployed aristocracy (greyhounds)?

If you’re drawn to the ABC’s Dog Park solely for the dogs, or stumble upon it thinking it’s a companion piece to the new season of Muster Dogs, you might come away disappointed. Sure, it features a pack of loveable pups, but they’re not the main attraction. This smartly written six-part series turns around contemporary lives and relationships with humour and wisdom. Come for the doggy meet-cute, stay for the human comedy.

Leon Ford plays grumpy misanthrope Roland, who’s crash-landed into an unhappy middle age. His gregarious wife Emma (Brooke Satchwell) is on the verge of accepting a dream job overseas and effectively ending their already shaky marriage. His teenage daughter Mia (Florence Gladwin) barely acknowledges his existence. His main focus in life is day-drinking, complaining about the annoyances of the modern world and wondering where it all went wrong.

This new ABC show is Celia Pacquola’s dream gig (just don’t ask about Bluey)

As a child, Celia Pacquola desperately wanted a cat. It never came to be, largely because she lived in the Yarra Valley bush and her mother loved birds too much, but her feline dream never went away.

So it surprised even her when years later she and a housemate – fellow comedian Kelly Fastuca – decided to adopt a dog shortly before the COVID-19 lockdowns. Jimmy Chocolate Chip, a rescue somewhere between a terrier and a chihuahua, came first… followed by Deirdre Chambers (another rescue dog, not the beautician from Muriel’s Wedding). Suddenly, life was all about the dogs.

“I just love them. If someone says, ‘I hate dogs’, I don’t want to hang out with them,” says Pacquola, a comedian and actress best known for Rosehaven and Utopia. “If you walk into a shop and there’s an unexpected dog there, it’s like, ‘My day just got 20 per cent better.’ ”

Australian Open insulates tennis from extreme heat but still faces million-dollar hit

Rod Laver and Margaret Court Arenas protected by roofs and aircon

Tens of thousands of tennis fans are expected to stay away from the Australian Open on Tuesday as temperatures climb above 40C, but the Melbourne Park grand slam has largely been able to insulate itself – physically and commercially – from the effects of extreme heat.

The daytime attendance for the heat-affected Saturday was 51,048, down more than 10,000 compared with the previous and following days, and an even greater decline is expected on Tuesday given widespread publicity of the Victorian heatwave. Sales of $35 ground passes have been slow and queues at security appeared shorter than usual shortly after gates opened at 9am.

Science expert explains Australian Open's heatwave risk

Science Communicator Maddie Massy says top-tier players at the Australian Open can expect heat-related issues due to the design of the tennis courts and stadium.

"This is a big problem at the moment", Massy told Troy Sincock.

"The court design really doesn't help…they absorb a lot of heat".

Queens Park Rangers 2-3 Wrexham: Visitors score twice in injury time to rise to play-offs

Callum Doyle had not scored in 19 appearances for Wrexham since joining from Manchester City in August 2025

Wrexham moved into the Championship play-off places after Ollie Rathbone completed a remarkable injury-time turnaround to beat Queens Park Rangers 3-2.

QPR had looked assured of victory after Steve Cook's header had given them the lead in the 80th minute for the second time of the afternoon at Loftus Road.

Julien Stephan's side looked as though they would have to settle for a point when Josh Windass struck with 93 minutes on the clock.

But Rathbone broke Rangers' hearts when he smashed home in the 95th minute, sending Phil Parkinson's men into sixth in the table.

Parkinson's record as the finisher at ambitious Wrexham AFC is second-to-none

PHIL PARKINSON’S record as the finisher over the closing 20 matches of a campaign really is something else.

I knew he had a great record when it came to finishing seasons as Wrexham boss, but after seeing the stats of the last four years, I don’t think the term ‘great’ does that justice.

In those 80 games over the last four seasons, Wrexham have chalked up an amazing 51 wins and lost only 13.

With 16 draws thrown into the mix, that’s a haul of 169 points – more than two per game.

If the Reds can repeat this trend over the coming months, they are certain to be in the play-offs, but like Parkinson himself has stressed, the Championship is a ‘crazy’ division.

An Emergency level bushfire is active in the Fitzgerald River National Park area.

Farmers and firefighters continue to fight a second fire in the Dunn Rock and Lake King area in the Shire of Lake Grace.

DFES has combined the response to the fires, and evacuation centres have opened in Ravensthorpe and Jerramungup.

Tourists have been urged to avoid Fitzgerald River National Park, 500 kilometres south-east of Perth, with a bushfire burning in the park escalated to an Emergency Warning.

It is the first of two large bushfires Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) officers, volunteers and farmers are battling on Western Australia's south coast.

'South Park' drops into 'Fortnite' on Jan. 9 with Quints, Cartmanland, and more

After spending 2025 satirizing President Donald Trump's administration, South Park kicks off 2026 with a new chapter: a Fortnite collab.

Launching Friday, Jan. 9, and running until Thursday, Feb. 5, Fortnite's South Park: Born in Chaos crossover event ushers in a whole host of new features. Players can don Cartman, Kyle, Stan, Kenny, and Butters mech suit outfits in Fortnite's shop. (Meaning, yes, you can kill Kenny over and over again.) They can also explore a new Point of Interest in Cartman's own personal theme park, Cartmanland.

In a major development, the South Park crossover introduces Quints, a five-player playlist that lets you add a new member to your squad. That's great news for South Park's Butters, who, in the collab's announcement video, finally gets to play Fortnite with his buddies instead of remain stuck as the fifth wheel.

Fortnite X South Park: All Skins, Rewards, Map Changes, And New Gameplay Items

GameSpot may receive revenue from affiliate and advertising partnerships for sharing this content and from purchases through links.

South Park is coming to Fortnite on Friday, but this is not the sort of Fortnite collab that only adds skins to the item shop–though we're certainly getting a pile of skins. No, South Park is also taking over Fortnite's Battle Royale mode by introducing several major new gameplay overhauls (and we mean major) and taking over one of the major named locations on the map. Also, there's a completely free event pass that'll allow players to earn free South Park cosmetics by completing quests–yes, you'll actually have to play the game to earn these things.

‘South Park’ Enters the Fortnite Universe With ‘Born in Chaos’

Epic Games released a trailer this week that has the Comedy Central show's heroes dropped into the gaming battle royale.

South Park’s ratings-smashing, politically charged latest back-to-back seasons may have just concluded, but the show’s fans don’t have to say goodbye to the Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny (and Butters!) entirely, because this week they are set to make their Fortnite debut with South Park: Born in Chaos.

On Friday, outfits for South Park’s four central characters (and Butters!) are coming to the Fortnite Shop, meaning fans who are also immersed in the massively popular game platform can play as their favorite character from the long-running animated series — or as a large, hulking figure with one of the characters riding on top.

Yellowstone National Park Faces Cancellations As NPS Warning Comes True Due To Bizarre Phenomenon

On December 10, the National Park Service (NPS) updated its website for Yellowstone National Park, warning that "the accumulation of snowfall on roads varies across the park."

While Yellowstone recently had plenty to celebrate as the government lost in the national parks' conservation efforts against an "illegal" threat, the NPS's warning about snowfall in the park is a worrying status update on varying snow depths, and it's since come true—and that isn't so great for visitors with certain booked activities.

With such little snow (which is a bizarre weather phenomenon for the park at this time of the year), Yellowstone's winter opening is minimal, restricting snowmobile and snowcoach access, prompting tour cancellations, and pushing visitors to dry-land activities like biking and roller-skiing until winter conditions return.

    Yellowstone in Winter

The thermometer had read 8°F just after dawn, and it was still bone-chilling when we’d begun cross-country skiing. Yet here we were, in the dead of winter, near the geographical center of Yellowstone National Park, stripping off our clothes. This wasn’t a crazed reaction to hypothermia—it was a perfectly sane response to arriving at a creek just below a thermal spring, where the water was a perfect 104°.

Sure, we were shivering for a moment as we undressed, but the second we dipped into that creek, with waters warmed from the spring just upstream, we giggled like kids and our hard-working muscles relaxed.
