BREAKING: Patriots into Super Bowl as big gamble backfires, Aussie ‘MVP’ stars in defeat

But less than five years after the legendary quarterback announced he would be leaving Foxborough, the Patriots are back in the Super Bowl yet again. They have a long-term answer at quarterback too.

Drake Maye was far from his best, but came up with big plays when it mattered most – including a few key gains with his legs – to help the Patriots to a 10-7 win over the Denver Broncos in snowy conditions.

AFC championship: Patriots robbed of defensive TD off Jarrett Stidham turnover, then Drake Maye scores one anyway

An officiating mistake cost the New England Patriots a defensive touchdown against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

But Drake Maye deemed the error moot by running for a touchdown two plays later to get the Patriots on the scoreboard and cap a pivotal sequence in the AFC championship game.

The sequence started late in the second quarter as the Broncos held a 7-0 lead. Broncos quarterback Jarrett Stidham, who was playing for injured starter Bo Nix, faced pressure on third-and-3 and carelessly released the ball near Denver's 14-yard line.

Patriots linebacker Elijah Ponder picked the ball up and ran into the end zone for what looked like a New England touchdown. But officials blew the whistle as Ponder picked up the ball, killing the play.

Gene Steratore flip-flops on controversial Jarrett Stidham fumble call

Late in the second quarter of Sunday’s AFC Championship Game between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos, a forward-pass controversy left the CBS broadcast crew confused and unable to give a clear explanation to fans watching at home.

Facing a third down with 3:09 left in the second quarter, Broncos quarterback Jarrett Stidham found himself in trouble and attempted to throw the ball away under duress, leading to a sequence that left everyone watching, including the officials on the field and the broadcasters in CBS’s booth, completely flummoxed.

Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, and Gene Steratore stumble through that clusterf–k of a sequence on the field.

Petty Patriots? Players and Cardi B call out doubters after 5 takeaways in win vs. Texans

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Inside a buzzing New England Patriots locker room, edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson shouted: “Everybody picked them!”

The Patriots weren’t, according to oddsmakers, underdogs at home. But a panel of five ESPN analysts had unanimously predicted a Houston Texans upset. And the Patriots were keeping receipts. So after New England emerged from a wintry mix Sunday with a 28-16 divisional playoff win, the team's X account shared the "SportsCenter" clip of the Texans predictions that didn’t pan out.

Grammy Award-winning rapper Cardi B, who is expecting a child with her boyfriend Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs, shared the clip with a video of her screaming: “What are y’all talking about!!!”

Patriots social media account mocks ESPN crew for unanimously picking Texans

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel talked after Sunday's game about his team's ability to ignore the noise, but it seems Patriots players didn't tune out the national pundits completely.

Ahead of Sunday's divisional round game, the ESPN NFL Live crew of Mina Kimes, Ryan Clark, Hannah Storm, Dan Orlovsky and Marcus Spears all revealed their picks for the Patriots-Texans game simultaneously. All five picked Houston, prompting the hosts to react with shock.

The clip went viral before the game. Once the Patriots sealed a 28-16 win, the social media team fired off a simple post with a screengrab from the segment. The Patriots account posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, "oh no," with a grimacing face emoji.

BALTIMORE — New England Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson exited Sunday night's 28-24 win against the Baltimore Ravens and was evaluated for a concussion following a 1-yard run in the second quarter.

The 5-foot-10, 202-pound Henderson was tackled by Ravens safety Alohi Gilman at the 7:06 mark of the quarter and spun around, with the back of his helmet contacting the ground. He was later ruled out with a head injury.

A speedy second-round pick out of Ohio State, Henderson entered Sunday leading the team with 773 rushing yards on 143 carries, with seven touchdowns. The injury left the Patriots with just five-year veteran Rhamondre Stevenson and seven-year veteran D'Ernest Johnson at running back.

BALTIMORE — The Patriots lost rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson to a head injury Sunday night against the Ravens, as the team’s depth continues to be tested down the final stretch of the regular season.

Henderson exited the come-from-behind, 28-24 victory in the second quarter, when he slammed his head into the turf after a tackle by Ravens safety Alohi Gilman. Henderson remained on the ground after the play, before athletic trainers and coach Mike Vrabel ran onto the field to check on him.

Henderson attempted to stand up but immediately sat back down. He eventually walked off the field slowly with little assistance and went straight into the medical tent on the sidelines. After a lengthy visit, he went to the locker room.

    NFL Tips – Patriots @ Ravens – Week 16 2025

Sunday Night Football features a battle between the resurgent Ravens, and the Patriots who are looking to stay in the hunt for the top seed in the AFC.

With the Ravens running game firing again the Patriots look vulnerable with their rushing defence of late proving highly susceptible.

Last week James Cook ran for 107 yards and two scores, the third game in a row that the Patriots have allowed 100+ rushing yards to opposing running backs. They rank second last in rushing success rate since Week 11.

The problem for the Patriots is that Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is getting healthier all the time, so it’s not just Derrick Henry they have to worry about. Lamar is an incredible 16-0 when playing in December.

Ravens vs. Patriots live updates: Score, highlights, TV channel for Sunday Night Football

The Baltimore Ravens' playoff chances are on life support after John Harbaugh's squad lost 28-24 to the New England Patriots on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 16.

The Ravens had a chance to win Sunday's contest. They had an 11-point lead early in the fourth quarter after Derrick Henry punched in his second touchdown of the game. It looked like the team was going to be able to withstand a back injury that prematurely ended Lamar Jackson's evening and stay within striking distance of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North race.

Instead, Drake Maye led the Patriots to a fourth-quarter comeback. He led the team on back-to-back touchdown drives before a K'Lavon Chaisson forced fumble allowed New England to run the clock out on Baltimore and push the Ravens to the brink of elimination.

Giants vs. Patriots: Three must-know storylines for Monday's Week 13 prime-time game

At first glance, Monday night's opponents are eons apart when it comes to contending for a championship.

The Patriots are the AFC's top seed, with a three-game lead in the win column over the Bills in the AFC East and an inside track for a first-round bye. The Giants entered Week 13 as the only club eliminated from the playoffs, having already fired their head coach and defensive coordinator.

However, closer inspection at the teams' similarities suggests New England has the blueprint the Giants could follow for a rapid turnaround.

The Pats finished with four wins just a season ago, which led to the firing of head coach Jerod Mayo. But they nailed their hire of Mike Vrabel, and all the potential quarterback Drake Maye showed as a franchise cornerstone during his rookie season came to fruition after New England surrounded with him more talent in free agency and the draft.
