Reigning world champion Lando Norris has doubled his grand prix win tally in 2026, producing a pair of brilliant overtakes to win the Dutch Grand Prix.

Norris won the last grand prix in Hungary before the mid-year break, and continued that good form while teammate Oscar Piastri struggled for pace.

Mercedes championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who led for stretches in Zandvoort, finished second ahead of teammate George Russell who obeyed team orders in the late stages of the race.

Oscar Piastri was running third, but lost the position thanks to a slow pit stop. The Australian struggled for pace in the second half of the race and finished a distant sixth.

George Russell took pole and victory in the Sprint and finished third in the Grand Prix itself. “P3 was probably a fair result,” he said after the race.

Lando Norris surges past Russell and Antonelli to snatch Dutch GP pole

What a title fight Formula One would have on its hands if McLaren could make the final steps with their car. This was demonstrated to dramatic effect on Saturday as Lando Norris hurled his ride around Zandvoort to claim pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix. It was a prize secured against the odds and his own expectations, hours after he had bemoaned being in no position to fulfil his hopes of mounting a successful title defence.

The McLaren car is immensely quick through the fast corners, perhaps the class of the field, but is haemorrhaging time through the slow stuff, the package not quite complete, or suboptimal as Ron Dennis would have had it. Yet Norris managed to eke out its very best across the circuit to see off the Mercedes of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli into second and third place. The season’s dominant car was subdued by Norris in qualifying for the second race in succession, after he took pole in Hungary.

Piastri sitting on ticking time bomb as savage reality laid bare

Oscar Piastri’s season-long deficit to Lando Norris has McLaren on the brink of prioritising the reigning world champion in the second half of the season, according to Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft.

Croft said Piastri had “consistently” lagged his teammate throughout 2026. Norris sits fifth in the standings, 91 points behind championship leading Mercedes gun Kimi Antonelli. Piastri is seventh, 127 points behind.

Oscar Piastri swore at his McLaren crew in frustration in Hungary, but any Formula One revival is up to him

While some of his struggles have been out of his control, Piastri now must prove he can adapt to a new era in the sport

Blasphemy from Oscar Piastri had to be censored on more than one occasion during his frustrating Hungarian Grand Prix. But it was the Australian’s use of the M-word that will fuel speculation about his future at the halfway mark of a disappointing Formula One season.

“Mate, just don’t fucking talk to me now,” Piastri said down his radio to his crew after the moment a possible race victory was lost, when the team’s pit stop strategy left him in traffic and exposed to backmarker incompetence. “Nice of you guys to factor that one in by the way, thanks,” Piastri added.

Sainz explains why he was caught out in Piastri clash

Williams' Carlos Sainz has shared his thoughts about a tense incident involving Oscar Piastri during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Carlos Sainz has given his take on the contact made with Oscar Piastri while being lapped during the Hungarian Grand Prix, which earned him a five-second penalty.

Piastri escaped without damage, but he lost precious seconds and momentum, compromising his battle with team mate Lando Norris. He made his frustration clear with some fairly colourful language on team radio.

At the time, Sainz was chasing his friend and countryman Fernando Alonso as they scrapped over 14th position.

It was when the Williams driver cut back across the track that he clipped the front of Piastri’s McLaren. As the FIA stewards noted, the Australian was in Sainz’s blind spot at that point.

Piastri gives update amid Verstappen to McLaren reports

Oscar Piastri believes he will remain with McLaren next season despite speculation that Max Verstappen will replace him.

Oscar Piastri has offered an update on his position with McLaren amid ongoing speculation that Max Verstappen will replace him at the team.

Rumours have continued in recent months about a possible move for four-time World Champion Verstappen to McLaren, where he would replace Piastri and partner Lando Norris.

Piastri's manager and ex-F1 driver, Mark Webber, stated that “there has been a lot of fiction written” about the potential driver move, while McLaren CEO Zak Brown has publicly stated he his happy with his current line-up.

‘I get paid a lot of money to do those things’: Piastri on swap rumours and life off the track

Oscar Piastri had the 2025 drivers’ championship all but won. Until he didn’t. Now there are rumours of his ousting from the McLaren team. But the laconic young Aussie says he’s “not going anywhere”.

The famously unflappable McLaren driver has a cool and calm demeanour. His podium celebrations are understated and his stoic and sometimes sarcastically deadpan responses over F1 radios have generated memes.

So it’s unsurprising that whispers of a potential Max Verstappen defection to McLaren – which could knock the Australian out of the papaya-coloured English team – don’t bother him.

“I think from where I sit, I’m very comfortable in the position I’m at,” Piastri said, speaking exclusively to this masthead before the Belgian Grand Prix.

‘Couldn’t handle the pressure’: F1 champ’s blunt Piastri assessment

The former world champion has thrown his support behind Antonelli’s title credentials, arguing the Mercedes driver possesses the mindset needed to cope with the demands of a championship battle.

Raikkonen made the assessment during a rare interview with Italian publication Quotidiano Nazionale, pointing to the maturity Antonelli has displayed throughout his breakout campaign.

“Antonelli won’t lose focus; he’s showing maturity,” Raikkonen said.

“He’ll have to avoid imitating Piastri in 2025. At one point, the Australian McLaren driver seemed to have the title in his pocket, but he couldn’t handle the pressure.

The comments come with Antonelli sitting atop the standings after establishing himself as one of F1’s standout performers in 2026.

Oscar Piastri 'couldn't handle the pressure' as Kimi Raikkonen spots new 'trap'

Oscar Piastri could not “handle the pressure” of his 2025 title battle versus McLaren teammate Lando Norris and Max Verstappen.

That is the opinion expressed by 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, who is backing his namesake, and F1 2026 championship leader Kimi Antonelli to avoid falling into the same “trap” which Piastri did last year.

Australia’s Oscar Piastri led the 2025 championship by 34 points after the Dutch Grand Prix, but suffered for a collapse in form later in the year.

Piastri did steady the ship at the final two rounds, winning the Qatar Sprint and finishing the Grand Prix in second, repeating that P2 at the Abu Dhabi finale, but it was Norris who emerged as a first-time world champion.

Albon reflects on Piastri collision that led to Canada DNF

Alex Albon became one of six retirees from the Canadian Grand Prix after his Williams was hit by the McLaren of Oscar Piastri, an incident that Piastri was penalised for.

Alex Albon has given his take on the “unfortunate” collision with Oscar Piastri that forced him to retire from the Canadian Grand Prix, with the Thai racer admitting that it was “not ideal” given that things had just started to feel better for him in the car.

Albon had made a decent start to the race in Montreal and had gained positions from his P18 starting slot when he was hit by Piastri on Lap 13, the McLaren driver suffering a lock-up that caused him to run into the Williams.

‘News to me’: Piastri responds to Red Bull rumours

Rumours around Piastri’s future emerged in recent weeks amid uncertainty surrounding Max Verstappen’s long-term future at Red Bull.

Autosport reported that the Australian had become Red Bull’s leading target should the Dutchman depart the team for 2027.

Piastri remains on a long-term deal at McLaren after signing an extension ahead of the 2025 season, with the 25-year-old continuing to form one of the strongest pairings alongside reigning world champion Lando Norris.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Piastri denied there had been any discussions with Red Bull.

“There’s obviously not been any discussions or anything, but it’s flattering, and there’s not really much more than that.

Danger lurks in Piastri shock as early pecking order emerges; rules fear exposed — F1 Talking Pts

McLaren has been keen to play down expectations for the early part of the season, insisting that it’s a step behind presumed leader Mercedes and even likely contender Ferrari.

The team has been leaning hard into the narrative that not being a works constructor is going to cost it results early in the season, when the engine manufacturers will have a knowledge advantage when it comes to operating the motor.

That may well be true, but on Friday afternoon Oscar Piastri did his best to zero the difference.

The drivers, teams and Pirelli report back on all the action from Friday practice in Melbourne, ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.

It was not the ideal opening session for McLaren, who had Piastri going slow on track with a loss of power in the first few laps. While he did get going and completed the session, Norris only managed seven laps before being called back to the garage for a precautionary gearbox change.

‘We seem to be on the back foot’ – Leclerc wary of Mercedes threat in Australia

Oscar Piastri impressed his home crowd as he led the two Mercedes drivers of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell in just the second practice session of the season.

Oscar Piastri finished the first day of running in Australia at the top of the timesheets, beating the Mercedes duo of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell in another eventful hour.

After FP1 saw some drivers face teething problems, a small group were ready to go at the pit lane exit for the day's second practice session, including reigning World Champion Lando Norris, who missed a sizable chunk of the opening session due to precautionary gearbox checks.

What we learned from first F1 2026 Friday at Australian GP

After a long pre-season, Formula 1's finally had its first proper day of 2026 at the Australian Grand Prix – which has given some big pointers for the season opener.

Ferrari and McLaren topped the two sessions – so pre-season favourite Mercedes was never fastest on Friday…so we're in for a surprise, right?

For now, whatever the classification says, nobody doubts that Mercedes is the class of the field. That was revealed by George Russell's impressive long run pace.

While FP2 was patchy in terms of the long run data, it showed Mercedes having the clear advantage with Russell able to run at a pace the rest couldn't match.
