Who’s UFC’s Josh Hokit? All About 49ers’ Undrafted Player-Turned-MMA Fighter

We’ve heard plenty of stories about people switching careers, but it’s rare when an elite athlete switches sports and actually thrives. Josh Hokit belongs in that rarest category. He didn’t just walk away from football; he charged headfirst into a far more unforgiving arena. Few athletes trade cleats for four-ounce gloves.

Hokit’s journey reads like a high-risk bet that keeps paying off. Once an undrafted San Francisco 49ers fullback, he rebuilt himself as a wrecking force in MMA. Wrestling instincts, football power, and raw aggression fused into a new identity. The result is a heavyweight prospect who didn’t just take the long road—he smashed through it.

Smith returns with Aussies to pick four quicks for Boxing Day

Stand-in Australian captain says selectors want another look at the MCG surface before settling on their attack for the fourth Test

Australia will take an all-pace attack into the Boxing Day Test but stand-in skipper Steve Smith says the hosts are yet to settle on their final XI for the fourth Ashes Test.

Smith said selectors want another look at a "quite furry" MCG surface tomorrow morning before settling on the final make up of their pace attack, with Brendan Doggett, Michael Neser and returning quick Jhye Richardson in line to fill the final two spots.

Smith's return from an inner-ear issue to lead the side in Pat Cummins' absence means Josh Inglis has been squeezed out of the XI, with veteran batter Usman Khawaja doing enough to hold his spot with scores of 82 and 40 following his late reprieve in Adelaide.

‘None of us are guaranteed’: Telling Boxing Day sign for hometown hero as trio vie for spot

Hometown hero Scott Boland has demonstrated his readiness for the Boxing Day Test with a zippy session in the MCG nets on Christmas morning.

Boland, who felt some soreness in his hip after the match at Adelaide Oval, had been on light duties since returning to Melbourne ahead of Boxing Day.

When discussing the series on Wednesday, Boland said he had overcome the problem and sent down some deliveries in the nets in tandem with off-spinner Todd Murphy to opener Jake Weatherald.

The Draft File: Pick 29 – Sam Allen

The West Coast Eagles have selected Sam Allen with pick 29 in the 2025 Telstra AFL National Draft

A well-balanced and smooth-moving wingman, Allen brings elite athleticism and versatility to the Eagles’ lineup. Known for his exceptional running capacity, Allen clocked a sub-six-minute 2km time trial and ranked No.1 nationally in the running vertical jump during pre-season testing with an incredible 101cm leap.

Allen started the year strongly with the Oakleigh Chargers, averaging 21.3 disposals (including 9.3 contested) across the first three rounds of the Coates Talent League before a season-ending ACL injury at training. Despite the setback, his talent and professionalism ensured he remained firmly on recruiters’ radars.

AFL Draft: West Coast Eagles select Oakleigh Chargers midfielder Sam Allen with pick 29

West Coast continued their raid of Victorian talent in this year’s national draft, landing midfielder Sam Allen with pick No.29 on the second night.

The Eagles took the smooth-moving wingman despite rupturing his ACL earlier this season after only three games for the Oakleigh Charges.

While recovering from the injury, he was invited to the national draft combine, indicating he had attracted plenty of interest from clubs.

Allen joins Willem Duursma (No.1), Cooper Duff-Tytler (No.4) and Josh Lindsay (No.19) in Victorian stars being recruited by the wooden spooners this year.

The 18-year-old was a highly-rated prospect this season, with his elite running traits putting him around the first round of this year’s draft.
