    Malaysia Airlines pilot arrested in Jakarta over drugs

    Indonesian authorities say they have arrested a Malaysia Airlines pilot accused of smuggling of more than 26 kilograms of ecstasy and a package of methamphetamine shortly after he landed in Jakarta's international airport.

    The 39-year-old Malaysian citizen, identified only by his initial MS, was also allegedly on duty while under the influence of narcotics, said Eko Hadi Santoso, director of narcotics crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency.

    A Malaysian pilot could face the death penalty in Indonesia after being arrested at Soekarno-Hatta international airport in Jakarta with more than 70,000 ecstasy pills in his luggage, Indonesian police said on Friday.

    The 39-year-old, identified only as MS, was apprehended shortly after flying a ​passenger plane from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta late on Wednesday. While the airport officials did not name the pilot's employer, the flight number indicates it was a Malaysia Airlines flight.

    NTSB Report Details Final Moments Before Fatal MD Plane Crash

    BOWIE, MD — A pilot declared an emergency and tried to divert to Freeway Airport in Bowie before the small plane he was operating crashed in a wooded area, killing all three people aboard, according to a preliminary National Transportation Safety Board report.

    The report, released by the NTSB on Wednesday, details the final moments before the plane crashed in a Bowie neighborhood on June 20.

    Yoav Bomrind, 26, of Israel, died in the crash along with his two passengers, 19-year-old David Rabinovitz, of Israel, and 20-year-old Elad Naidik, of Canada, Maryland State Police said.

    While the report revealed new information, it does not specify the cause of the crash.

    Breaking: Former Jetstar pilot Greg Lynn to remain behind bars after bail denial

    Former Jetstar pilot Greg Lynn has lost his bid for bail as he awaits a retrial for the alleged murder of an elderly camper.

    The 59-year-old made the bid for release after the Court of Appeal quashed his conviction late last year.

    His defence team argued that the "exceptional circumstances" of the case meant Mr Lynn should be bailed to live with his son, who volunteered to put up his life savings as a surety.

    During last week's bail application, defence barrister Dermot Dann argued Mr Lynn's time in custody before his conviction was among the exceptional circumstances weighing in favour of bail, alongside widespread "sensational" media coverage had "totally obliterated" the possibility of a fair trial in the foreseeable future.

    The former pilot accused of killing camper Carol Clay and burning her remains in the High Country will remain in prison after being refused bail.

    Greg Lynn, 59, was granted a retrial in December over allegations he fatally shot Clay, a 73-year-old retiree, in the head as she camped in the Wonnangatta Valley with friend Russell Hill, 74, in March 2020.

    His legal team argued he should be released back into the community while awaiting the outcome of a fresh trial.

    During a hearing last week, defence barrister Dermot Dann, KC, argued his client could live with his eldest son, Geordie Lynn, who owned a property he was also willing to offer up as a surety to guarantee his father’s release.
