Roosters plot shock Manu ‘guest stint’ before joining Chiefs

The Roosters are poised to begin formal negotiations to bring former favourite son Joey Manu back to the club for a guest stint next season.

Manu was rated among the best centres in the world when he left the NRL at the end of 2024 to pursue big dollars in overseas rugby.

The strongly built outside back is returning to league with the PNG Chiefs in 2028 but has a window between the end of his contract with French club Racing 92 next June and the start of his commitments with PNG in the November pre-season next year.

NRL club starting process to sign Joseph Manu for 2027

Joseph Manu is close to returning to the NRL midway through the 2027 season before joining the PNG Chiefs in 2028.

Manu left the Sydney Roosters at the end of 2024 to join the Toyota Verblitz in Japan's Rugby One.

The 30-year-old then joined Racing 92 in France, where he is contracted until midway through 2027. The French Top 14 rugby union season typically ends in late June, after the championship final.

According to The Mole, the Sydney Roosters will begin the formal process of signing Manu in the 2027 season.

In August, it was confirmed that Joseph Manu would return to rugby league on a two-year deal with the PNG Chiefs in 2028.

What 2 midcoast fire chiefs want people to know about the report on the deadly Searsmont mill explosion

On Friday, after reading news coverage of the federal report into the Robbins Lumber fire and silo explosion that hospitalized a dozen people, a friend and fellow firefighter reached out to Prent Marriner, the chief of the Appleton fire department.

Both men had responded to the blaze on May 15. Marriner, one of nine first responders injured in the disaster, credits the friend with saving his life. Three mill employees also were injured while another firefighter was killed in the blast.

“This is a guy who — I wouldn’t have walked away if it wasn’t for him. I don’t know if I’d still be alive if it wasn’t for him,” Marriner said.
