A 15-point peace plan has been offered to Iran by intermediaries from Pakistan, as US President Donald Trump plans to deploy more troops to the Middle East.

It's expected that any talks between Iran and the US would face huge challenges, with it not being clear who in Iran's government has the authority to negotiate.

Pakistan says it is ready to facilitate "meaningful and conclusive talks" to end the Iran war.

The Trump administration has offered a 15-point ceasefire plan to Iran as the US military prepares to call up at least 1,000 more troops to supplement the 50,000 already in the Middle East.

Iran rejects US 15-point peace plan, state media reports

Iran has rejected US President Donald Trump's 15-point plan to end the war, according to state-run Press TV.

It cited an unknown "senior political-security official" laying out five of Tehran's own conditions to bring the conflict to an end, including paying reparations for damage.

They bear no resemblance to Trump's proposals, published by Israel's Channel 12 network after US officials had confirmed their existence. They include Iran committing not to build nuclear weapons and to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

The war began on 28 February with US and Israeli air strikes, after which Iran widened hostilities by targeting American allies in the Gulf.

Iran rejects ceasefire plan as more US troops head to the Middle East

New York: The United States is preparing to send thousands more troops to the Middle East even as it alluded to progress in peace talks with Iran and President Donald Trump heralded a “very big present” purportedly received as a goodwill gesture from Iranian negotiators.

On another day of mixed signals as the war approached its four-week mark, Trump said Iran wanted to make a deal “so badly” and confirmed that he was now interested in a ceasefire – a turnaround from just days earlier.

It also emerged that the US had delivered to Iran – through intermediaries – a 15-point peace plan that largely mirrored previous Trump administration demands of Tehran, before potential in-person talks as soon as this week.

Mikel Arteta: Arsenal's 9-point lead at top of Premier League means 'nothing'

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal aren't focusing on their lead at the top of the Premier League. (0:33)

Mikel Arteta has claimed Arsenal's nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League means "nothing" despite his team piling the pressure on Manchester City.

The Gunners eased to a 3-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday as Martín Zubimendi's 20-yard drive opened the scoring on 42 minutes before substitute Viktor Gyökeres struck twice late on.

City must now respond with their game-in-hand at last season's champions Liverpool on Sunday, a venue where they have won just once in 22 league trips.

Arsenal's advantage is the biggest lead they have enjoyed since the final day of their 2003-04 title-winning campaign, the last time they won the league.

Gyökeres double keeps Arsenal on title track in stroll past sloppy Sunderland

There are times when the best thing for a side is an uneventful win. Titles are won less in the big set-piece games than against mid-table teams in the easily forgotten circumstances of a Saturday afternoon. Arsenal weren’t brilliant against Sunderland, but they were good enough to win comfortably, and that increases their lead at the top of the table to nine points, adding a degree of extra pressure to Manchester City’s Sunday visit to Liverpool.

“They’re really tough opponents, really good at what they do,” said Mikel Arteta. “It’s very difficult to get sequences with threat and momentum, so I’m delighted with the performance.”

We maintained our six-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a convincing 3-0 win at home to Sunderland on Saturday.

Martin Zubimendi opened the scoring in style with half-time approaching, before Viktor Gyokeres' second-half brace wrapped up the three points in N5.

Analyst Adrian Clarke has gone back through the footage to discover exactly what made us so clinical:

One of the key tactical patterns of this encounter was the way we allowed Declan Rice or Martin Zubimendi to become our ‘spare man’ inside the final third.

The clubrooms at Carranballac and surrounding properties were destroyed during the bushfires which razed more than 20,000 hectares of land on January 9.

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal must keep proving themselves worthy of top spot in the Premier League, starting with their clash against champions Liverpool. (0:41)

LONDON COLNEY, England — Mikel Arteta has said Arsenal have a "point to prove" against champions Liverpool as they aim to last the pace in the Premier League title race.

Arsenal sit six points clear at the table in pursuit of their first league success since 2004 having finished runners-up to Liverpool last term, their third consecutive second-place finish.

Liverpool beat Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield in August in an early setback but Arne Slot's side arrive for Thursday's reverse fixture 14 adrift of their opponents after a turbulent campaign despite spending almost £450 million ($607.04m) in the summer market.

Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the fitness of several first-team players ahead of our clash with Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on Thursday.

The boss was asked about several members of his squad in his pre-match press conference, including Kai Havertz, who is nearing a return to action.

“We are monitoring obviously his load, he has been out for a long time for two different reasons and he is very close,” Mikel said at the Sobha Realty Training Centre. “He trained this morning again and hopefully we are going to have him available in the best version of Kai Havertz.”

    Arsenal v Liverpool: Team news

The fitness of Hugo Ekitike and Kai Havertz is being monitored ahead of the Premier League showdown between Liverpool and Arsenal on Thursday night.

Ekitike, the Reds' top scorer this season with 11 goals in all competitions, missed the 2-2 draw at Fulham last weekend due to a hamstring complaint and delayed onset muscle soreness.

Asked for an update on the Frenchman, head coach Arne Slot said on Wednesday morning: "He has not trained with us until now and let's see if he can today.

"I've said, I think, two or three days ago when we played Fulham that he is not going to be out for long, but because games come so fast he is in between maybe training with the team or it would take him one or two days extra."

Doncic carries Lakers with 45-point triple-double

SALT LAKE CITY — After posting a stat line reached by only one other player in NBA history in the Los Angeles Lakers' 143-135 win over the Utah Jazz on Thursday, Luka Doncic hardly sounded impressed with himself.

"I think, honestly, I could do so much more," Doncic said after totaling 45 points, 14 assists, 11 rebounds, 5 steals and only 1 turnover. "But I think that one turnover is the best stat-wise on this stat sheet. We had seven turnovers, which is impressive for us and we won the game."

Game Recap: Lakers 143, Jazz 135

The Lakers defeated the Jazz, 143-135. The Lakers improve to 19-7 on the season, as the Jaz fall to 10-16.

Lakers player grades: Lakers survive shootout with Jazz

The key point of emphasis lately for the Los Angeles Lakers has been defense, especially perimeter defense. It is something they have struggled with plenty, and they had an opportunity to improve in that area when they visited the Utah Jazz on Thursday.

Early on, the Lakers' defensive woes seemed to be about as strong as ever. They trailed by nine at the end of the first quarter and gave up 41 points on 70% shooting in the period. They started to claw their way back into the game in the second quarter, but they were still down 78-73 at halftime after allowing Keyonte George to score 18 first-half points.

The dynamic landscape of current events often brings forth significant discussions. Monitoring these developments provides crucial insights.
