Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has provided an update on the bushfires burning in the state.

The government should add panel members to its recently announced royal commission into antisemitism and social cohesion to be led by former high court justice Virgina Bell, former Labor MP Mike Kelly says.

Speaking to Sky News on Friday, Kelly recommended elevating Dennis Richardson, who is already contributing to the proceedings through his review of the intelligence services, to the role of royal commission panel member.

“The government and the royal commissioner herself could look at enlisting extra support on that panel,” Kelly said, “Not withstanding [Virginia Bell’s] legal expertise, she doesn’t have the sort of the death of experience and knowledge of the specific areas related to this Bondi incident.”

Thirty fires remain active in Victoria on the morning on Friday, January 9, according to Emergency Victoria Management.

The fire west of Walwa, which Forest Fire Management Victoria chief fire officer Chris Hardman said was more than 20,000 hectares and actively burning, had caused between 12,000 and 16,000 hectares of pine plantation destruction, with more assets at risk.

No residential property loss had been confirmed as of 10.30am Friday, when authorities held a media briefing.

Premier Jacinta Allan spoke of "more strong winds to come" as the leading concern for the day, as "winds will change the direction of the fire and push those fires potentially closer to homes, closer to properties and closer to communities".

Due to planned engineering works, there will be no direct trains running between London to Liverpool on matchday.

The shortest route to Liverpool and back again will require a change in Birmingham.

Trains leave from London Marylebone every hour and arrive at Birmingham Moor Street station. From there, it is a short walk to Birmingham New Street station, where you can get a train to Liverpool Lime Street.

This journey to Liverpool will take you approximately four hours and 15 minutes, so please plan to leave early. Other routes are available but may take longer.

Once you arrive at Liverpool Lime Street, it is a short walk to Liverpool Central, where you can take a short train to Sandhills station, which is the closest station to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Antoine Semenyo, it seems likely, will soon join Manchester City from Bournemouth for a fee of Â£65m. Given how well Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden have played from the right this season, it is not immediately obvious why City need him, but the modern game is the modern game, the rammed calendar makes large and flexible squads essential and Pep Guardiola may have some esoteric plan for the Ghanaian anyway. But perhaps what is most striking about the deal is the fee â€“ or, more precisely, how little attention it has drawn.

English football has become inured to big transfers. The fee feels about right. Semenyo is 25. He has four and a half years left on his contract. He is quick, skilful, intelligent and works hard. He is disciplined, but has the capacity to do the unexpected. Of course a player of his ability costs that much. Yet Â£65m would make him the third-most expensive player in Bundesliga history. He would be the seventh-most expensive in Serie A history, the 14th-most expensive in La Liga history. Only nine non-English clubs have paid a fee higher than that. Even in Premier League terms, Semenyo sneaks into the top 25.
