Chery slashes price of E5 Ultimate, making it lowest-cost electric SUV with 420 km range

Chery has slashed the price of its top-spec MY26 E5 SUV Ultimate edition by thousands of dollars, bringing it down to just $37,990 driveaway.

The new price for the model is over $6,000 cheaper than the previous driveaway price, and makes it the lowest cost electric SUV with over 420 km of WLTP range in the Australian market.

The move follows a surge in interest in EVs in Australia, with sales reaching record highs in March and order books pushing out to several months, and amid a new round of price-cuts as various car makers seek to put their models centre stage.

Lucas Harris, the COO of Chery Australia, said the new pricing was designed to make EVs more accessible to more Australians. “At $37,990 driveaway, the E5 delivers exceptional value in a practical SUV package, without asking customers to compromise on features, safety or technology,” he said in a statement.

Chery Australia has introduced a sharp drive-away deal for its E5 electric compact SUV, while discontinuing the previous entry level variant.

The E5 will now start from $37,990 (drive-away), coming in a single variant called the Ultimate, which used to top the range, meaning the base Urban grade is no longer available.

Despite the entry level grade being cut from the range, the new price represents a substantial saving on previous $40,990 before on-road cost pricing for the range-topping variant.

Chery E5 MY26 Price Cut: Now From $37,990 Driveaway

Chery Australia has cut the price of the MY26 E5 Ultimate to $37,990 driveaway. The previous price was $39,990 driveaway, a saving of $2,000. It is now one of the most affordable small electric SUVs on sale in Australia.

The E5 Ultimate is the only variant available for the MY26 model year. It can be ordered now through Chery's national dealer network.

The Chery E5 was the 26th best selling BEV model in 2025 with 868 sales. The segment leader, the BYD Atto 3, sold 3861.

The E5 comes with a 430km WLTP range. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, advanced safety systems, and a full-size spare wheel. The interior is described as well-appointed with a spacious cabin suited to both city and weekend use.

Toyota Camry-beating price for BYD's first Aussie hybrid that's not an SUV or ute

BYD has announced Australia's cheapest station wagon alongside a cut-price Toyota Camry Hybrid rival, due in showrooms later this year.

BYD will undercut the Toyota Camry Hybrid with the Seal 6, a new plug-in hybrid sedan and wagon promising more than 1300km on a tank of fuel.

Unrelated to the electric BYD Seal sedan – which remains on sale – the Seal 6 is similar in size to a Camry or Mazda 6, and is the fifth plug-in hybrid sold by BYD in Australia.

Prices start from $34,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level Seal 6 Sedan Essential, and rise to $39,990 plus on-roads for the Seal 6 Touring Premium wagon, with a longer electric-only driving range and a more practical body.

BYD has confirmed pricing and specifications for its Seal 6 sedan and wagon pair.

The new plug-in hybrid pair arrive in one grade each. The Seal 6 Sedan Essential is the price leader at $34,990 (before on-roads) with a smaller 10.08kWh battery, and the Seal 6 Touring Premium steps up to $39,990 before on-roads with a larger 19kWh battery pack.

The sedan can travel 55km in EV mode, while the wagon can travel 100km in EV mode, both according to the generally more accurate WLTP standard.

2026 BYD Seal 6 will be Australia's cheapest PHEV sedan and cheapest wagon

BYD is gunning for the Toyota Camry with its sharply priced new mid-size plug-in hybrid Seal 6 sedan and wagon.

The onslaught of new BYD models continues, with the Seal 6 Sedan and Seal 6 Touring plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) locked in for an Australian launch.

Available to order from April 9, 2026, the mid-size PHEV sedan and wagon range will be available in just two variants.

The Seal 6 Sedan will come here only in Essential trim and, with a price tag of $34,990 before on-road costs, it will not only be Australia’s cheapest PHEV sedan but also undercut even the Toyota Camry Hybrid by $5000.

The union representing petrol station workers says there has been a spike in reports of abuse from customers since fuel prices started to rise.

Petrol station owners say they're not making money from the fuel price rises and are losing the in-store sales of food, drinks and coffee that they depend on to make a profit.

The Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association is surveying workers across Australia to get firmer data on the reported rise in customer aggression and will work with the operators to improve the safety of their workers.

Servo staff cop abuse over fuel prices

Service station operators across Geelong and the Surf Coast are reporting rising levels of abuse amid high petrol prices.

Apco director Peter Anderson said drivers were ‘triggered’ by the Servo Saver app, which was not always updating.

“We’re finding that people are coming in and saying ‘oh the price on the pump’s different to the price on the fuel app’,” he said.

“We’re finding that sometimes people’s phones are not updating, which has been a regular occurrence.

“Sometimes it hasn’t updated for three or four days on their phones.”

He said the Victorian government is not paying any attention to service station owners’ concerns, which he said was disappointing.

Economists warn fuel price cut likely to come with 'sting in the tail'

Economists have warned the government's move to halve the fuel excise to provide some relief from sky-high petrol prices could adversely impact demand for petrol and keep inflation higher.

The tax on every litre of petrol and diesel will be slashed for three months from tomorrow, with Treasurer Jim Chalmers estimating it will save Australians about $19 on a 65-litre tank of gas.

Some economists say the move could mean the Reserve Bank is more likely to increase interest rates again when it next meets in May.

Australians could face worse cost-of-living pressures over the coming months despite temporary relief through a cut to the fuel excise.

From Wednesday, petrol and diesel costs around the nation will be slashed by 26.3 cents a litre as the federal government moves to head off the worst effects of the war in the Middle East.

That equates to $10.50 on a small 40-litre tank or $21 for Australia's best-selling new car – the Ford Ranger – which has an 80-litre tank.

Economists will say that what millions of motorists gain in cheaper fuel through the prime minister’s three-month fuel excise cut, they will lose in more expensive mortgages.

It may be good politics, but injecting $1.5bn via petrol subsidies into an economy that is already struggling with a resurgent inflationary problem is not going to make the Reserve Bank of Australia’s job any easier.

Jim Chalmers says halving the 52.6c a litre fuel tax for three months will save a motorist $19 at the bowser on a 65-litre tank – and much more for those driving the ubiquitous gas-guzzling utes.

XRP Enters ‘Washout Zone,’ Then Targets $30, Crypto Analyst Says

XRP has entered what Korean Certified Elliott Wave Analyst XForceGlobal (@XForceGlobal) calls a “washout” phase inside a broader Elliott Wave corrective structure, a zone he argues can set the stage for a renewed macro advance, with eventual cycle targets stretching into the $20–$30 region.

In a Feb. 3 video breakdown, XForceGlobal said the recent pullback does not change his larger framework, but rather pushes XRP deeper into what he described as the “alternative” macro scenario: an expanded flat correction where a prior push to new highs becomes a “fake out” before a final leg lower attempts to flush late buyers.

“Nothing new here, we’ve been talking about this for quite some time where we have 2 extreme points of interest,” he said. “The B Wave here creating a fake out point at the all time high, and then the current C Wave that we are also in that creates a fake out point below the market structure of this previous low here, that Wave A.”

Where Will XRP (Ripple) Go Next?

Ripple (XRP 17.66%) is trading around $1.57 at this writing, significantly down from its early January high of around $2.40.

Investors are now concerned whether the cryptocurrency will climb on renewed institutional demand or drift lower as speculative momentum fades.

XRP entered 2026 in a far stronger U.S. regulatory position than in previous years. In August 2025, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ended its case against XRP's parent company, Ripple Labs. While Ripple agreed to pay a $125 million fine, the settlement also reinforced the July 2023 verdict that XRP is not treated as a security when sold on public exchanges.

While this regulatory clarification has not changed XRP's underlying fundamentals, the improved institutional credibility led to the launch of U.S. spot XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in late 2025. By mid-January 2026, XRP ETFs had attracted $1.37 billion in cumulative net inflows.
