Celebrate Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's 73 years of marriage in 73 glorious photos

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip enjoyed 73 years of marriage together

When it comes to love stories, the tale of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip is one for the ages. It started in the 1930s and blossomed into a marriage that endured for more than 70 years, with the Queen famously describing her husband as her ‘strength and stay’. But before they were Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, they were simply Princess Elizabeth (or ‘Lilibet’) and Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark.

Prince Philip first met Princess Elizabeth in the summer of 1939 when she was just 13 years old. He was five years her senior, about to embark on a career with the Royal Navy. Elizabeth and her sister, Princess Margaret, were on a trip with their parents to Dartmouth’s Britannia Royal Naval College, their father’s alma mater. It was here that the dashing cadet Prince Philip – a distant cousin – entered the scene.

Inside Prince William’s plans to cut off more royals after Beatrice, Eugenie: Report

Prince William’s plans for an even slimmer monarchy have started to pick up the pace and he already has a royal in mind

Prince William’s inheritance, the British throne has been facing onslaught after onslaught ever since the later years of the Queen, and now, with his uncle deemed a ‘disgraced royal’ with no title or status, and his younger brother’s memoir, interviews and the like exposing private family moments. It seems he’s ready to pull up his socks with one of the most ruthless over hauls of the century.

Prince William is ruthless when it comes to his vision of how things should run in the British monarchy, a source tells the National Enquirer.

Once crowned king, “he plans on cutting anyone he feels is coasting or trading off the royal name without pulling their weight,” reveals the source.

The heir apparent, 43, has “already started by pushing out” Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, the source notes, as well as their scandal-plagued parents, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson.

“There are plenty more he has his eyes on. He’s not done yet,” hints the source. “That said, it’s not just about getting rid of people. He’s also very focused on building a team he actually believes in.”

Legal action follows war of words with Sentebale chair after Duke of Sussex’s resignation as patron

The Duke of Sussex is being sued by Sentebale in the latest twist in the bitter fallout over the African charity he co-founded.

The charity has lodged papers in London’s high court over defamation claims naming Prince Harry and the former Sentebale trustee Mark Dyer as defendants.

The prince had been engaged in a public war of words with the charity’s chair, Dr Sophie Chandauka, after his resignation as a patron last year.

Sentebale works with children and young people in southern Africa. Harry and the co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho stepped down in March 2025, and trustees later quit over a dispute with Chandauka, a lawyer appointed in 2023.

Ex-Prince Andrew Was a ‘Joke’ to Prince William & Kate Middleton — Expert

A royal expert has claimed that Prince William and Kate Middleton never had much time for ex-Prince Andrew, and saw him as something of a “joke.” The Prince and Princess of Wales have been vocal about maintaining a good image for the monarchy. As Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor remains a controversial figure for the royal family, Dr. Andrew Lownie claims William and Middleton formed a low view of him long ago. Years later, that view never changed.

On an episode of Royal Exclusive, royal biographer Dr. Andrew Lownie discussed the fallout around ex-Prince Andrew and what it means for the future under Prince William and Kate Middleton. During the conversation, Lownie claimed that the couple never had much time for Andrew on a personal level. Moreover, he suggested they saw the danger coming much before the palace treated it as a serious problem, saying, “I think William was probably on to this very early.”
