    India, Proteas fireworks set up virtual quarter-final

    South Africa march on into the semi-finals while India will face West Indies in a knockout final Super Eights contest

    South Africa and India put on commanding batting performances at the T20 World Cup as the Proteas sealed their semi-final spot while the tournament co-hosts have set up a virtual quarter-final with West Indies.

    Zimbabwe were knocked out of the World Cup even before India's record-breaking batting display buried them in Chennai on Friday morning (AEDT), with the unbeaten South Africans' earlier win sealing their fate.

    Aiden Markram's men marched on majestically with their captain looking a man on a mission as he powered his side to a nine-wicket rout of the Windies and a place in the final four.

    South Africa has beaten the previously undefeated West Indies, and India has thumped Zimbabwe to send the Proteas into the T20 World Cup semifinals. 

    South Africa joins England in the semis, although there are still four Super Eights games remaining.

    The semis will be played next Thursday and Friday morning AEDT, with the final the following Monday from 12:30am.

    India has posted the second-highest total in the history of the men's T20 World Cup, beating Zimbabwe and ultimately helping South Africa into the semifinals.

    Proteas crash to record low as India flexes muscles ahead of World Cup

    South Africa has been dismissed for its lowest ever T20 score as India dominated the opening match of the series.

    Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya returned from a lengthy lay-off to smash 59 off just 28 deliveries in his side's 101-run win.

    The five-match series continues on Friday morning (12:30 am AEDT) in New Chandigarh.

    India has dismissed South Africa for their lowest T20 international score, bowling them out for 74 in a 101-run win that served both as a warning and an encouragement to Australia.

    South Africa 213 for 4 (de Kock 90, Ferreira 30*, Varun 2-29) beat India 162 (Tilak 62, Baartman 4-24, Jaansen 2-25, Ngidi 2-26, Sipamla 2-46) by 51 runs

    If India defied losing the toss and getting the worst of the conditions, theoretically, in Cuttack, South Africa did the same in New Chandigarh to come roaring back into the T20I series, which is now locked 1-1 with three matches to go.

    India captain Suryakumar Yadav noted at the toss that the outfield was already dewy when the players were going through their pre-match warm-ups. It was a no-brainer to chase. But Quinton de Kock put India under pressure with a 46-ball 90 studded with seven sixes, and Donovan Ferreira finished brilliantly with an unbeaten 16-ball 30, taking South Africa to an imposing total of 213 for 4.

    ‘Pure carnage’: Rivals crumble in historic T20 disaster as milestone marred by controversy

    Hardik Pandya struck an unbeaten 59 and took a key wicket as India thrashed South Africa by 101 runs in the first T20 international on Tuesday.

    Pandya’s 28-ball blitz, laced with six fours and four sixes, powered reigning world champions India to 175-6 after they were put in to bat first in Cuttack.

    The Indian bowlers then combined to skittle South Africa for their lowest T20 total of 74 in 12.3 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series as part of their build-up for the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in February-March.
