Murray Taulagi's Sydney Roosters move is off with the Queensland State of Origin winger instead poised to make a code switch to French rugby.

Taulagi had widely been expected to join the Roosters next year after it became apparent he would not remain at North Queensland in 2027.

However it's understood a medical with the Roosters was pushed back through Origin, and AAP has been told the 27-year-old will instead act on overseas interest.

Cowboys star set to snub Roosters, link up with rival code

North Queensland Cowboys and Queensland Maroons State of Origin winger Murray Taulagi is set to link up with rugby union in the South of France.

The winger is off-contract at the end of this year and had an offer on the table from North Queensland, but it was withdrawn after the process dragged out.

Taulagi was then set to join the Sydney Roosters, with the club making an offer to add to their backline depth.

He has now made the decision to pursue the rival code, according to reports revealed by News Corp.

The Roosters have lost several outside backs in recent years, with the club losing Joseph Manu, Joseph Suaalii and Mark Nawaqanitawase (at the end of this year) to rugby union.

Cowboys star Murray Taulagi set to quit NRL in shock switch

North Queensland Cowboys outside back Murray Taulagi is set to leave the NRL at the end of the season, with the Queensland representative understood to have agreed to a lucrative move to French rugby according to CODE Sports.

Taulagi is expected to join a Top 14 club on a multi-year contract, with the deal potentially running for three seasons as he begins the next chapter of his career.

The 27-year-old had previously been in discussions with the Sydney Roosters after deciding against extending his stay in North Queensland, but has instead opted to make the switch to rugby union.

Taulagi has long had a strong connection to rugby union, having been a standout schoolboy player in the 15-man code before ultimately being recruited by the Cowboys.

AUS CUP REPORT: Lions FC 2-0 City

Melbourne City’s Australia Cup campaign came to a disappointing end on Tuesday night, going down 2-0 to Lions FC in Queensland.

City began brightly at Spencer Park but a costly mistake gifted the hosts the lead midway through the first half, before Lions capitalised on another turnover after the break to put the result beyond reach.

With our Cup run now over, attention turns fully towards preparations for the 2026/27 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

Consistency was key for Aurelio Vidmar, who named the same starting XI that featured in both our Round of 32 win over Weston Bears FC and Friday night’s friendly against Palermo FC.

Shane McGovern, 67, has died from injuries sustained in a horse riding accident in early April.

The jockey spent hours trapped underneath a dead horse at a regional Queensland track before he was taken to the hospital.

The racing community is raising funds to support McGovern's family as funeral arrangements are made.

A Queensland jockey who died in hospital weeks after being trapped underneath a horse at a regional track is being remembered as a "natural horseman" who was "universally loved".

Shane McGovern, 67, had been under the care of the Townsville University Hospital since the training accident in Charters Towers in early April.

Horse racing world pays tribute to Aussie jockey Shane McGovern after heartbreaking news

Tributes are flowing for Queensland jockey Shane McGovern after the much-loved jockey died following a devastating accident last month. McGovern had been placed in palliative care after having both of his legs amputated following a tragic accident at his stables in Charters Towers last month.

His nine-year-old horse Reformist had an aneurysm and died during a routine trackwork session. The horse collapsed and landed on McGovern. The 67-year-old was trapped for six hours until his wife Kim found him. He lost circulation to both of his legs as a result, and had to have both amputated.

The situation took a tragic turn for the worst, with the Australian Jockeys Association (AJA) announcing on Friday that McGovern was in palliative care. Unfortunately, the AJA announced on Saturday morning McGovern had died due to the injuries.

Queensland player departs State of Origin camp as Kalyn Ponga spotted in worrying sight

Maroons fans could have cause to feel a little nervous after fullback Kalyn Ponga was spotted with heavy strapping on his right hamstring during Wednesday's first Origin session in Queensland camp. Centre Robert Toia was restricted to light duties as he works his way through the NRL's concussion protocols, and will have to undergo testing before being cleared to play in Game 1 in Sydney on May 27.

While Queensland 20th man Kulikefu Finefeuiaki didn't even get a chance to participate in Wednesday's first full session after being released to play for the Dolphins on Thursday night. The Redcliffe-based side travel to face Canberra in the opening NRL game of Round 12, with Finefeuiaki expected to rejoin Maroons camp on Friday or over the weekend.

QLD Maroons star racing the clock to be fit for Game 1

QLD Maroons centre Robert Toia was sidelined in the early stages of their Origin camp as he recovers from a head knock sustained in Magic Round.

Toia, as reported by The Australian, has been working through the NRL's concussion protocols and has undergone testing to clear him to play in Game 1 in Sydney.

He has not taken part in full-contact training, with light and symptom-limiting exercises given to him by the coaching staff.

The strike centre is expected to make a full recovery and line up against opposing-star Stephen Crichton. However, he is still racing against the clock to be fit for their clash against NSW on Wednesday.

There's more to Queensland's red hot property market than Brisbane

Strong demand, tight listings and relative affordability are driving another wave of price growth across regional Queensland, with investors continuing to target high-yield markets.

Regional Queensland property values are continuing to surge, extending a multi-year stellar run, and the good times appear far from over.

In Toowoomba, about 150km west of Brisbane, prices boomed 21.6 per cent over the past year, according to analyst Cotality, while prices in North Queensland’s Cairns and Townsville also continued their golden run.

Brian Gray, Principal of Toowoomba’s Picket Fence Properties, said listings remained “very tight”, with strong interest from both owner-occupiers and investors, with some southern investors buying sight unseen.

Property boom shows first crack as offers plunge 50pc

Buyers have begun to call time to Brisbane’s property boom as prices hit borrowing ceilings and sellers adjust their expectations.

After years of sizzling growth, Brisbane’s property market is showing its first real signs of cooling, with reports offers on homes have halved as buyers pull back.

Buyers’ agents have begun reporting a clear shift – fewer bidders, softer competition and less FOMO – plus something Brisbane has not seen consistently for several years: homes selling below listed price guides.

This sharp change in buyer behaviour swept through the market over the past month, according to leading local buyers’ agent Zoran Solano of Hot Property Buyers Agency.

Disaster in north-west Queensland not over yet, more rain forecast for tropical coast

Pilots are taking to the skies in outback Queensland to shift cattle to higher ground, drop fodder and assess damage.

There is potential for isolated heavy falls in already flooded catchments in the north west, and more rain is forecast for the coast around Townsville.

The system in the north west is weakening and moving south. The Bureau of Meteorology says the system on the coast should shift offshore early next week.

Ringer Jessica Bridges turns on the TV at night to fall asleep so she does not have to listen to the rain.

"There's a lot of anxiety and big emotions in a lot of people's households," Ms Bridges said.

Thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast for small parts of Queensland after two people were rescued from floodwaters on Saturday.

Swiftwater rescue crews retrieved two people from vehicles stuck in floodwaters in separate incidents near Beaudesert, while the State Emergency Service responded to more than 130 calls for help.

On the Sunshine Coast, Kenilworth was hit with 65 millimetres of rain in 30 minutes on Saturday, while Kooralbyn, on the Scenic Rim, recorded an overnight total of 136 millimetres.

Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) senior forecaster Lauren Murphy said a rain band extending from the state's north-west to south-east would bring patchy rain and showers, with the potential for severe storms to return.
