    Amstel Gold Race marks the beginning of the Ardennes Classics as it returns for its 60th anniversary this Sunday (April 19), with Mattias Skjelmose and Mischa Bredewold looking to defend their titles.

    This year, Tadej Pogačar and Mathieu van der Poel have opted not to ride the race after busy Classics seasons. Pogačar was edged out by Skjelmose last year and is likely in need of a rest after a brutal second place to Wout van Aert at Paris–Roubaix last Sunday.

    There were cows, horses and enough Bertie Beetles to go around, but the elephant in the tent at the Sydney Royal Easter Show was the cost-of-living crisis sparked by rising fuel prices.

    Thousands flocked to day two, and by 9am on Friday the Showground was full of excited children and exhausted parents trying to navigate what is typically the busiest day of the event. For those who have worked the Show before, however, there was a notable difference in attendance.

    Speaking outside the Sea Circus Fun House, carnival ride operator Anthony Curran said there were fewer people than usual for Good Friday. He blamed it on the cost of living and the rising price of fuel.

    Take one step over the threshold into its barnyard fumes, take a single sip of overpriced but utterly delicious lemonade sold by a sullen teen, and you will immediately be transported back to being an 11-year-old trying to convince your parents that a gag bag with plastic excrement is a prudent, nay necessary, purchase.

    SailGP: Practice racing canned, but big breeze for weekend's racing

    The Practice Racing scheduled for Friday at ITM NZ SailGP, was cancelled after a forecast of lightning – which didn't eventuate.

    In its place came a 15kt plus easterly (onshore) breeze, which was not sufficent to keep the clouds flying, and Auckland was clothed in a grey murk which reduced visibility to a few hundred metres, if that. Not the ideal conditions for 13 SailGP teams to be trying to limber up in the congested, landlocked venue.

    However three teams were allowed to go through "commissioning", leaving at varying stages of the day – essentially doing their own thing.

    The Kiwis to test their new port stern section setup, which was completed on Wednesday, following their collison with the Swiss after just 90seconds of racing in the first event of Season 6 in Fremantle. The Swiss were repaired overnight in Freo, sailed the next day, and so weren't entitled to commissioning time today.

    How Tom Banton Won The Race For England's T20 World Cup No.4 Spot

    Walking off the field with an unbeaten half-century seconds after England had sealed their third T20I series-win in a row must have had an extra level of satisfaction for Tom Banton.

    It was the first time he had passed 50 in an England shirt since his recall to the squad a year ago, and came after he was moved up the order. Ordinarily, a promotion into the top four is something a batter would be pleased with, but it was originally seen as a bad omen for his chances of starting the T20 World Cup. With Ben Duckett missing the first two T20Is with an injured thumb, it seemed Banton was the placeholder. Instead, that innings, as well as the 29 off 15 balls he made in the previous match, placed Banton firmly in possession of a place in England’s World Cup middle order, where spots are rarely up for grabs.

    Tom Banton Secures England’s T20 World Cup No.4 Spot

    Tom Banton’s recent performance secured his place among England’s top contenders ahead of the T20 World Cup.

    After a year-long absence from impressive performances, Banton finally passed the 50-run mark in a T20 match for England. His unbeaten half-century came during England’s victory over Sri Lanka, marking their third consecutive T20I series win.

    Banton’s move to bat in the top four was initially viewed skeptically, especially with Ben Duckett sidelined due to injury. However, his strong showing in the series has solidified his position. In addition to his half-century, he scored 29 runs in the previous match, demonstrating his effectiveness under pressure.
