Zverev vs. Garin Odds & Predictions (Apr. 8, 2026)

Third seed Alexander Zverev holds strong trader consensus favoritism over qualifier Cristian Garin in their Monte Carlo Masters second-round clash on clay, driven by his world No. 3 ranking, consistent Masters 1000 deep runs, and recent Roland Garros final appearance highlighting elite clay form. Garin, ranked No. 109, enters with fresh momentum from a dominant 6-2, 6-4 upset of Matteo Arnaldi in the first round, showcasing his heavy topspin grinding suited to the slow Monte Carlo courts. Their head-to-head stands at 2-1 for Garin on clay—including a straight-sets quarterfinal win over Zverev in Munich last year—adding upset potential, though Zverev's baseline power and serve typically prevail in high-stakes ATP 1000 encounters absent injury concerns.

What just happened to Alexander Zverev in Monte-Carlo shocked fans

Alexander Zverev turned himself into the kind of player who could win high-end (but not Grand Slams) tournaments a long time ago. No matter the surface, he could be dangerous. Still, his best surface statistically has been clay, which is why his second-round match at the Monte-Carlo Masters was so shocking.

Facing Cristian Garin, a former No. 17 on the ATP tour but currently ranked outside the top 100, the German dropped the first set 6-4, which clearly wasn't the end of the match. Sets are lost all the time, of course, and when Zverev, the three-seed in Monte-Carlo, came back to win set two, all seemed right again.

TURIN, Italy — Carlos Alcaraz is one win away from securing the year-ending No. 1 ranking.

Alcaraz rallied past Taylor Fritz 6-7 (2), 7-5, 6-3 on Tuesday at the ATP Finals and now needs to either win his final group match against Lorenzo Musetti or an eventual semifinal to finish a year No. 1 for the second time in his career.

Alcaraz, who improved to 2-0 at the season-ending event for the top eight players, could seal a spot in the semifinals if Alex de Minaur beats Musetti later.

Carlos Alcaraz has seized control of Alex de Minaur's group in the ATP Finals after coming back from a set down to defeat Taylor Fritz 6-7 (2-7) 7-5 6-3 in Turin.

The world No.2 needed two hours, 48 minutes to see off the American and back up his first round victory over de Minaur.

That left the Australian knowing if he can beat Lorenzo Musetti in the Jimmy Connors group's second match on Tuesday (local time) he would set up a winner-takes-all final group tie with Fritz as both chase a semi-final place.

Alcaraz battles past Fritz to stay on course for year-end No. 1 at ATP Finals

Turin, Nov 11 (IANS) Carlos Alcaraz kept his bid for a second year-end No. 1 ranking alive with a hard-fought comeback win over Taylor Fritz at the ATP Finals in Turin on Tuesday.

The five-time Grand Slam champion recovered from a set down to defeat last year’s runner-up 6-7 (2/7), 7-5, 6-3, making it two wins from two in the Jimmy Connors Group.

The victory puts Alcaraz within one win of securing the top spot in the ATP rankings for 2025. He will seal it if he beats Lorenzo Musetti in his final group match on Thursday.

“I’m really happy that I was able to come back, find my good tennis,” Alcaraz said after the match. “I just tried to make the most of the opportunities that he gave to me. I think we played great tennis, some great points.”
