Actor suing Rebel Wilson agrees bath incident was 'strange and bizarre'

Actor Charlotte MacInnes has told a court Rebel Wilson mischaracterised an incident at Bondi Beach involving a producer on the movie The Deb.

Ms MacInnes alleges Ms Wilson claimed she walked back allegations of being sexually harassed by movie producer Amanda Ghost, in exchange for acting jobs.

Rebel Wilson is expected to give evidence at the defamation trial on Tuesday.

A young actor suing Rebel Wilson for defamation has given details in court about an incident at Bondi Beach, which she claims the Hollywood star has since mischaracterised.

Hollywood star Rebel Wilson told a young actor she had been “terribly rude” in text messages revealed in court during a high-stakes defamation fight.

Charlotte MacInnes, who plays the lead role in Australian musical film The Deb, directed and co-produced by Wilson, is suing the Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids actor for defamation over a series of social media posts. The trial started in the Federal Court in Sydney on Monday.

Text messages shown in court on Thursday reveal some tension in May 2023 between the two performers at the start of their working relationship.

An actor accusing Rebel Wilson of damaging her career secured a $150,000 record deal with a publicist representing international superstars amid the feud with Wilson.

Charlotte MacInnes is suing the Pitch Perfect actor over social media posts claiming MacInnes complained about feeling uncomfortable after bathing with Wilson’s co-producer on musical film The Deb, Amanda Ghost.

MacInnes also alleges the posts – which could be seen by Wilson’s 11 million followers for 24 hours – suggested she had withdrawn the complaint in exchange for plum acting and music opportunities.

Rebel Wilson’s Legal Faceoff With ‘The Deb’ Star Charlotte MacInnes To Be Streamed On YouTube

Rebel Wilson‘s legal battle with Charlotte MacInnes, the lead actress in her directorial debut The Deb, will get underway in Australia next week — and it will be live-streamed on YouTube.

MacInnes is suing Wilson in the New South Wales branch of the Federal Court of Australia. She claims that the Pitch Perfect star damaged her reputation by alleging that she was sexually harassed by The Deb producer Amanda Ghost, and then colluded with Ghost to cover up what took place.

A hearing is scheduled for Monday, April 20, at 10.15 AM local time. In a listing, the Federal Court of Australia said the hearing would be streamed on the court’s YouTube channel to “ensure open justice.” It is not clear whether Wilson or MacInnes will attend.

Rebel Wilson’s directorial debut, The Deb, has genuine warmth – but doesn’t quite work as a musical

The Deb is finally here. The film has been plagued by unresolved legal troubles and repeated delays. But here it is – and for the most part, it’s an enjoyable Australian comedy with characteristically crude humour, but aimed squarely at a young, female audience.

It’s a shame it’s not as good a musical as it is a comedy.

The Deb began life as a stage musical, as the first recipient of Rebel Wilson’s scholarship program for young, female-identifying comedy writers. Written by Australian comedy writer Hannah Reilly and musician Meg Washington, the musical was produced by the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) and enjoyed a successful season in 2022. Almost immediately, Wilson flagged her intent to adapt the stage show for film.

A good dose of country life never did an Aussie any harm, not least in the movies made in this country that regularly send city types to live in the bush where they do some penance. Spending time in the outback brings them down a peg or two, helps to show them what really matters. We saw this at work in last year's popular Kangaroo, a sweet story about a TV weatherman whose car inconveniently needed repairs while he was stuck in the back of beyond.

This is how it goes in this screen version of the hit youth stage musical of 2022, The Deb, written by Hannah Reilly in collaboration with Megan Washington. It is a spirited directorial debut for Rebel Wilson, the high-profile actor, a veteran of the international and local film industries. She has a smaller but significant part here as Janette, the town beautician whose salon operating out of her garage goes by the name Curl Up N Dye. It promises to deliver clients the "real you, plus eyelashes, plus contouring, plus plus".

British Film Company Asks to Be Removed as Defendant From Rebel Wilson Countersuit

A British film production company is asking a judge to remove them as a defendant in a countersuit brought by Rebel Wilson against three producers of the film “The Deb” who are suing the Australian actress for defamation.

In court papers filed Friday with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Thomas D. Long in advance of a June 4, 2026, hearing, attorneys for AI Film Production Ltd. contend that the company is based in the United Kingdom and has no ties to California. Therefore, they say, service should be quashed for lack of personal jurisdiction. Wilson accuses AI Film of breach of contract.
