Dog food recalled in UK after reports of pets losing their sight

Move by Years, which provides personalised meals in subscription-based service, follows recipe change

A dog food brand has recalled all of its fresh meals after reports that a recipe change may have caused some animals to develop an eye condition that, if left untreated, can lead to sight loss.

The brand Years said owners should stop feeding its fresh meals to their dogs “immediately” and also told them not to feed them to any other animal, or to donate or sell them.

In response to reports from some owners of pets not responding to treatment and in some cases losing their sight, Years told the Guardian: “The picture is mixed. Some [ophthalmologists] report dogs responding well to treatment … others have seen limited or slower responses.”

Dog food brand recall after reports of suspected eye issues in pets

A luxury dog food brand has issued a recall after receiving dozens of reports of suspected eye issues in pets.

Years, a premium subscription service offering fresh dog food "tailored" to an animal's needs, emailed customers on Monday night to say it had identified a "potential link" between its buckwheat ingredient and a dry eye condition.

The company, which boasts that its fresh meals are cooked by chefs, urged customers to stop feeding Years' products their pets or any other animal.

Years said that as of Sunday, it had received reports of 57 suspected cases of dry eye.

The company said on its website: "This follows a small number of reports of dogs having a potential adverse eye reaction to buckwheat, a common and approved ingredient, which we include in our meals. As of 16th August, this has affected 0.1% of our customers."

Years recalls fresh meals over buckwheat fears

Fresh pet food supplier Years has recalled all of its fresh meals (excluding the Chef’s Collection range) over fears that contaminated buckwheat may be causing eye irritation in dogs.

As of 9pm yesterday (August 18), 192 customers have reported potential, although as yet unverified, eye issues to the company, with symptoms including excessive blinking or squinting; continuous pawing at the eyes; thick discharge; and general discomfort around the eyes.

An initial review by Years has identified buckwheat as a potential contributing factor, and the company is investigating possible contamination within its buckwheat supply chain. All confirmed cases have emerged after buckwheat was introduced into the recipe, with zero confirmed cases prior to that change, the company reports. Laboratory testing is underway, with data covering symptoms, diet and environmental factors across confirmed cases checked by an independent ophthalmologist.

Weatherald dropped, Renshaw recalled for second Test

Matthew Renshaw is in the box seat for a Test recall in Mackay as Pat Cummins' side seek to square the series against Bangladesh

Australia have broken up their Ashes-winning opening partnership one match into their ensuing run of matches, with Jake Weatherald dropped for the second Test against Bangladesh in Mackay.

Matthew Renshaw has replaced him and is in the box seat to take on the new ball with Travis Head at Great Barrier Reef Arena after selectors swung the axe following their stunning nine-wicket defeat in Darwin.

Weatherald, showing a tweaked technique designed to avoid lbw and bowled dismissals that dogged him against England, made 23 and 0 in his hometown Test. It took his career average from 12 innings to 20.36. Selectors handed him a national contract in April after several strong opening stands with Head during the 4-1 Ashes series win, but have now discarded him one Test later.

Chappell takes aim at Aussie selectors, calls for sweeping changes

Ian Chappell believes the chickens have come home to roost and says Australia’s selectors must take their share of the blame following Sunday’s historic home Test defeat to Bangladesh.

“If you pick the wrong people in the first place, you can get into trouble,” Chappell told nine.com.au.

“With their selections, they’ve shown to me that they don’t understand things very well.

“To me, it’s the selectors who’ve got themselves into this problem. Now they’ve got to try and find a way out. But I’m not convinced that they’re good enough to find a way out.”

Popular Baby Food Sold Nationwide Recalled Because It Could Be Contaminated With “Soft Plastic”

Parents, one of your toddler's staple snack foods could be dangerous. Pumpkin Tree announced a recall of its Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry fruit purée because of defective packaging. Last week, Pumpkin Tree's packaging supplier recalled its pouches because of an internal packaging defect that may result in a strand of soft plastic contaminating the fruit purée.

If the plastic strand were to detach from inside the pouch, it could pose a choking hazard to small children. The recall does not say whether the plastic could detach, though it does caution parents and caregivers that the fruit purée should "not be eaten or fed to another person." No injuries have been reported, Pumpkin Tree says.

Cyclospora: iceberg lettuce recalled in 27 states and more products may follow

Taylor Farms does not specify where products were served or sold, as US braces for weeks more of outbreak

Taylor Farms recalled potentially contaminated shredded iceberg lettuce in 27 states on Friday, including lettuce distributed as recently as Thursday, as cases of cyclosporiasis continue rising in the US.

The US is likely to see at least another two weeks of possible cases, since infections may have happened in recent days. And the expanding outbreak investigation could point to other products in coming days.

Taylor Farms named 27 states where the iceberg lettuce was distributed and included lot codes of produce – but it did not specify the brand names of the products or where they were served and sold. This will likely complicate the recall, with stores, restaurants and consumers attempting to understand which brands and products may be contaminated.

Taco Bell lettuce identified as a source of US 'explosive' diarrhoea outbreak

Consumers have been warned not to eat shredded iceberg lettuce from Taco Bell in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. (Reuters: Mike Blake)

US health authorities have identified lettuce served at Taco Bell restaurants in five states as one of the sources of an outbreak of cyclosporiasis that has spread across more than 30 US states in recent weeks.

Cyclospora is a microscopic, spherical parasite that commonly causes watery diarrhoea "with frequent and sometimes explosive bowel movements", according to the CDC.

Experts have cautioned that not every case of cyclosporiasis in the current outbreak is likely to have been caused by a single source, and health authorities are continuing their investigation.

    Ford Ranger and Everest recalled

Ford has issued another recall for a software fault affecting the transmission in Ranger and Everest models produced between 2017 and 2019.

Ford Australia is recalling over 2500 examples of its popular Ranger and Everest as a software issue, the subject of a previous recall, could result in a loss of power.

"Due to a software issue, the transmission fluid pump gears could fail while driving. This may cause a loss of hydraulic fluid pressure in the transmission, resulting in a loss of motive power," the company says in its recall notice.

"A loss of motive power could increase the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupant and other road users."

The recall affects certain Ranger vehicles built between December 19, 2017, and September 20, 2019, along with certain Everest vehicles built between November 27, 2017, and June 29, 2019.

Listed as recall REC-006659 (↗), the issue relates to the transmission fluid pump gears, which could fail while driving due to a software fault. If the gears fail, the transmission may lose hydraulic fluid pressure, resulting in a loss of motive power.

Tuna recalled over botulism risk mistakenly shipped to stores in 9 states

WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Canned tuna that was recalled last year due to a risk of botulism was accidentally shipped to retailers in nine states, prompting a new recall, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Tri-Union Seafoods issued a voluntary recall in February 2025 of select canned tuna products because of a manufacturing defect that could compromise the product’s seal, potentially leading to contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacteria that causes botulism.

The FDA published a safety alert on Monday after a third-party distributor shipped quarantined cases of the canned tuna to a limited number of retailers.

Check Your Pantry: 'Potentially Fatal' Tuna Was Accidentally Shipped To Stores In 9 States

Previously recalled cans of tuna were mistakenly distributed to various retailers across nine states.

The affected products have a lid defect that could lead to contamination with bacteria that can be fatal if consumed.

Consumers should throw away the products or return them to their place of purchase for a refund.

Check those pantries, people. That can of tuna hiding in the corner might be one you definitely don't want to open. According to the FDA, a third-party distributor inadvertently shipped quarantined tuna that was previously recalled due to a defect—one that could potentially lead to Clostridium botulinum, a bacteria that can cause botulism, a "potentially fatal form of food poisoning."

If you bought canned tuna at these stores, throw it out immediately

Canned tuna sold in nine states has been recalled over concerns of potential contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Last February, Tri-Union Seafoods voluntarily initiated a recall due to a manufacturing defect on the “easy open” pull tab on certain canned products. The distribution company said in an announcement that over time, the defect may affect the product seal, causing leaks or contamination from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum.

Clostridium botulinum is the cause of botulism, a food poisoning disease that can be life-threatening, according to the statement.

Tri-Union Seafoods later discovered possible contamination in additional canned tuna cases that had been shipped to third-party retailers.
