Crews respond to water rescues as storms move through Phoenix area

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Storms packing heavy rain flooded roads in parts of Maricopa County on Wednesday, sparking water rescues and road closures.

Scottsdale Fire Capt. Dave Folio said the monsoon storms dropped up to nearly 3 inches of rain in the northern parts of the city.

Other road closures in north Phoenix include Cloud Road at 19th and 24th streets.

Just after 2 p.m., three drivers were stranded in about 2 feet of standing water on the Loop 101 on-ramp at Princess Drive in Scottsdale. Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers used four-wheel-drive vehicles to push those vehicles out of the water by 2:40 p.m. No one was hurt.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Flood Watch on Wednesday for heavy rain and flash flooding

PHOENIX — A surge of monsoon moisture is moving back in and a storm system out west will help provide the instability needed to bring heavy downpours to Arizona over the next couple of days.

Wednesday is an ABC15 Weather Action Day with a Flood Watch in effect through 11 p.m. across the entire Phoenix metro area as well as most of the state.

Any storms that move through will be capable of producing heavy rain and flooding with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches an hour, so stay weather-aware and do not drive through flooded roadways or washes.

We could also see storms that bring damaging winds over 60 mph, dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, hail and blowing dust.

Arizona rain brings cooler temperatures, lingering tropical humidity

Monsoon showers bring high temperatures down to 81 degrees in Phoenix. Drier conditions and warmer temps will take over by the weekend. The FOX 10 Weather Experts have the latest on the active storms.

PHOENIX – Wednesday, Sept. 15, was a monsoon weather day for the books as rounds of storms moved through Arizona, dropping heavy rain across Arizona.

Parts of Arizona saw more than a monsoon season’s worth of rain, while others barely saw a tenth of an inch.

Another round of showers and thunderstorms will cross Arizona this evening, moving out by around midnight. Heavy, widespread rain will track through the high country overnight, keeping the flash flood risk high for most of the state.

João Pedro rescues Chelsea draw as Newcastle squander two-goal lead

Eddie Howe is synonymous with tidiness, efficiency, time management and, above all, control. Given that there is nothing remotely slapdash, careless or wasteful about Newcastle’s manager, his team’s increasing penchant for losing often hard-won authority is proving the most puzzling of paradoxes.

Newcastle have developed a habit of throwing leads away this season and, 2-0 up thanks to a Nick Woltemade double, they were at it again.

Second-half goals from Reece James – who was outstanding at both ends – and João Pedro duly ensured a much-improved Chelsea atoned for an abject first 45 minutes by departing with a point. It was the 13th Newcastle have dropped from a winning position this term; that represents the sort of negligence that turns teams from title challengers to mid-table nonentities.

Maresca hints at wanting older heads at end of chaotic week

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca insisted that speculation around his future would not distract his squad before facing Newcastle – but that was not how it looked for 45 minutes on Saturday.

Even before kick-off, Maresca appeared to question Chelsea's focus on buying only youth, suggesting having more experienced players is "invaluable".

The Blues then did not get going at St James' Park, a ground where they had lost 15 times in the Premier League era, and found themselves 2-0 down through a pair of first-half goals from striker Nick Woltemade.

So poor was the first half that Chelsea gave up an expected goals figure of 1.97 – their worst in a first 45 minutes for more than two years. They were error-prone at the back, wasteful in possession, out battled and failed to register a shot on target.
