    Start spreading the news – a 100-year-old Lake Tahoe resort and casino, once owned by Frank Sinatra, is set to reopen after sitting empty for decades.

    The Cal Neva Resort & Casino first opened in 1926 along the northern shore of Lake Tahoe, straddling the border between California and Nevada. Over the decades, it became one of the most iconic destinations in the American West, particularly during its mid-century heyday when it attracted a mix of Hollywood elites and political figures. During the 1960s, the resort thrived under Sinatra’s ownership, hosting stars like Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr., along with future president John F. Kennedy.

    Lawyer Says Ex-CIA Officer Pressured to Testify in Montenegro ‘Coup’ Case

    A lawyer for former CIA officer Joseph Assad has told BIRN that Montenegrin prosecutors exerted improper pressure on his client, including an explicit threat of prosecution, to force him to testify against defendants in the 2016 “coup plot” case.

    The case concerned then opposition figures and others accused of taking part in an alleged Russian-backed plot to overthrow Montenegro’s pro-Western government during the elections in 2016. The case has since been dismissed by the courts and the prosecutors concerned are no longer in their posts.

    Assad’s lawyer, Toby Cadman, of the London-based Guernica 37 Chambers law firm, told BIRN he had submitted a formal statement to Montenegrin authorities detailing the conduct.

    Remote luxury resort in WA suffers severe damage after Cyclone Fina’s direct hit

    Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina has hit the exclusive Berkeley River Lodge in Western Australia's north, causing a "total loss of infrastructure".

    Two caretakers sheltering underground at the site are uninjured after the category three system crossed the coast on Monday night.

    The Department of Fire and Emergency Services will evacuate the pair as soon as it is safe.

    A luxury wilderness resort only accessible by sea and private charter flights has been significantly damaged in a direct hit from Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina, which made landfall in an extremely remote part of Western Australia.

    A large portion of Australia’s interior is baking this Monday under near-record-breaking temperatures for November, and the searing heat is directly related to Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina.

    To 5pm Monday (AEDT), temperatures above 45°C were experienced in three states, with the hottest readings in each of those states being:

    An update on Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina, which made landfall in WA overnight, destroying parts of a luxury Kimberley lodge.

    The system has weakened to a category one this afternoon after crossing the coast as a category three around 8pm on Monday. It’s expected to become a tropical low tonight.

    The path of the cyclone is largely unpopulated except for Berkeley River Lodge, a remote luxury retreat on the coast which copped the brunt of the cyclone, with buildings flattened.
