Cooper Trembath: Rising Roo commits to the Kangas

Rising star Cooper Trembath has signed a new deal, securing his future at Arden Street

Rising star Cooper Trembath has committed to the Kangaroos, signing a three-year contract extension.

The new deal secures Trembath's future at Arden Street until at least the end of the 2029 season.

The 20-year-old, who began the 2025 season playing local footy for Blackburn, has played eight games since arriving at North Melbourne, kicking 19 goals.

He joined the Kangaroos via the 10th overall selection in the 2025 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, after impressing in the club's VFL program.

He was elevated to the senior side in Round 22 following an injury to forward Nick Larkey and made an immediate impact, kicking three goals in each of his first three games.

BRISBANE has swung a late change for its clash against Melbourne with Darcy Fort a late out due to illness.

Zane Zakostelsky comes into the Lions' side while the Demons are unchanged.

Melbourne (3-2) had built up much goodwill by playing with renewed dash and dare and securing upset victories over the likes of Gold Coast.

But the Demons were soon reminded that there is still much work to be done as they failed to show up against the under-siege Bombers and suffered a humiliating defeat before they face a tougher test against the reigning premiers.

Brisbane (3-2) has quickly silenced any doubters with three controlled victories in a row after starting the season with back-to-back defeats.

NAB warns rising petrol prices could drive inflation above 5 per cent

Global oil prices have spiked dramatically amid war in the Middle East, with Brent crude rising more than 25 per cent this afternoon.

Petrol prices have surged, with some motorists reporting prices as high as $2.42 a litre in WA.

Economists at NAB warn inflation could peak above 5 per cent as fuel prices rise due to the skyrocketing cost of oil.

Oil prices climbed 25 per cent today, with Brent crude surpassing $US115 a barrel, as analysts label it a "furious rise" amid war in the Middle East.

Australians have already felt pain at the petrol pump, with fuel prices as high as $2.42 in parts of the country and wholesalers restricting supply.

Why it matters: A suite of new analyses has found that regulations that provide basic safeguards like water, shade and rest for workers in hot conditions can help lower the numbers of heat-driven injuries, workers' compensation claims and even deaths.

How have regulations helped? The most recent study, published in December in the journal Health Affairs, looked at California's rule protecting outdoor workers from heat, the oldest such rule in the country. Researchers found the regulations led to at least a 33% drop in heat-related deaths among workers after 2010 — an estimate of several dozen lives saved each year.

Jenny Newport's son, Glenn, died while working on a coal seam gas pipeline construction project.

Temperatures at the construction site where he was working had exceeded 40 degrees Celsius that day.

Ms Newport is calling for state and federal governments to implement heat policies to help protect workers.

It has been 13 years since Jenny Newport's son died from extreme heat while on a worksite in Queensland, and she believes not much has changed.

Ms Newport had hoped there would be an effective heat policy for every worksite across the state after her son's death.
