Spooners to 2-0… but Knights rocked by $2.7m double injury blow in ‘insipid’ Manly thrashing

The Knights may be 2-0 after a thumping win over Manly, but it’s hard for their fans to celebrate too hard given they will be without $2.7m of their salary cap next week with superstars Kalyn Ponga and Dylan Brown both going off injured.

The 36-16 victory at 4 Pines Park continued Justin Holbrook’s dream start at the helm after they claimed the wooden spoon last season, but the coach will be praying for a positive result after his two best players suffered leg injuries.

The Newcastle Knights are counting the cost of a 36-16 win over Manly after superstars Kalyn Ponga and Dylan Brown both missed the entire second half at Brookvale Oval with injuries.

Ponga was cut down by a hamstring injury while scoring a 90-metre team try and tried to play on before succumbing, while halfback Dylan Brown suffered a left knee injury while setting up a try for Ponga's replacement, Fletcher Hunt, just before half-time.

"It's not ideal two playmakers going down, but the boys did the job for us massive," Ponga said.

Justin Holbrook loses another star Dylan Brown to knee injury

The injury toll for the Knightss continues to build up, as Dylan Brown suffered a MCL injury in the first half against the Manly Sea Eagles.

In the 25th minute, Ponga went down grabbing his right hamstring after scoring a try.

Dylan Brown was on the ground with the trainer shortly after, suffering an MCL injury while setting up Fletcher Hunt for a try.

He continued playing until the end of the first half, but the discomfort showed on Brown's face and the decision was called for him to leave the game.

The playmaker is most likely set to miss a month on the sidelines.

A controversial comment from Bec rocks the Married at First Sight Retreat Week – but Rachel says what viewers didn’t see on camera was the behind-the-scenes “campaign” that left her feeling even more betrayed.

“She was going from room to room talking to other cast members trying to make out I was overreacting,” Rachel, 35, tells TV WEEK. “That felt a little bit campaign-y. That’s what upset me. She wasn’t even trying to understand or reflect on why I was upset.”

Manly rocked by multimillion-dollar lawsuit over Keith Titmuss’ tragic death after training

The Manly Sea Eagles have been hit by a multimillion-dollar lawsuit from the family of former player Keith Titmuss, who died from “heat exhaustion” after a training session.

The Daily Telegraph reported Manly are being sued by Titmuss’ family for an allegedly “inappropriate training session” that led to the young player’s tragic death.

Titmuss died at the age of just 20 in hospital hours after suffering a seizure following a brutal workout session in hot conditions during Manly’s pre-season on 23 November 2020.

The family of Keith Titmuss has commenced legal action against Manly after the former Sea Eagles player died of exertional heatstroke during a training session deemed “more likely than not inappropriate”.

A coronial inquest found Titmuss was “most likely suffering involuntary dehydration” when he entered a wrestling gym for a cardio workout at the end of Manly’s first field session of pre-season training in November 2020.

A paramedic who tended to Titmuss described his body temperature of 41.9 degrees as the “hottest they’d ever seen”, with the inquest finding a pre-existing heart condition played no part in his death.
