Rockets 119, Bulls 113: Bulls fall short despite Tre Jones’ career night

The Chicago Bulls had every chance to eke out a win against the Houston Rockets, but lost their chance late, ultimately losing 119-113.

Josh Giddey (hamstring), Coby White (calf injury management) and Zach Collins (toe) remained out, but that didn’t seem to affect the Bulls in the slightest. For all they add to the Bulls’ offense, their penchant for producing turnovers can be costly. Led by Tre Jones‘ career-high with 34 points, plus seven assists to two turnovers, the Bulls were able to hang with, and in some cases even beat out the Rockets in the four factors.

The Bulls did an excellent job keeping the Rockets, who own the highest offensive rebounding rate of all time, to 12 offensive rebounds and 15 second-chance points. That’s still too many against most teams, but the Bulls actually outrebounded them on the offensive glass, with 14 and 17 second-chance points.

Chicago Bulls at Houston Rockets – Starting Lineups, Injury News, How to Watch

Can the Chicago Bulls pick up a second straight victory over a team from the Lone Star State?

This squad looked a lot more like its early-season self against the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night. The Bulls finished with seven players in double figures for a 125-107 victory, and they also destroyed in the open floor with a staggering 38 points in the fastbreak!

On the one hand, there is a chance for them to find similar success tonight against a Rockets team that turns the ball over more than anyone in the NBA. On the other hand, Houston is considered a title contender for a reason. While they have faced some struggles in recent weeks, Kevin Durant and Company are a scary matchup for most teams. Not only do they dominate on the offensive glass with Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams, but they have multiple young wings who can help shut down opposing scorers.

Trail Blazers 103-102 Rockets (8 Jan, 2026) Game Recap

PORTLAND, Ore. — — Deni Avdija had a season-high 41 points and the Portland Trail Blazers won their fourth straight with a wild 103-102 victory over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.

It appeared Tari Eason scored on a tip-in for Houston at the buzzer and the Rockets emptied the bench in celebration, but upon review the basket did not beat the clock.

The teams will meet again at the Moda Center on Friday night.

The Blazers held off the Rockets through most of the second half, but Houston tied it at 84 on a Amen Thompson's free throw with 8:56 left. Shaedon Sharpe's 3-pointer put Portland back in front.

What makes Trail Blazers star so tough to defend? ‘Zebras,’ opposing player says

Deni Avdija is having an All-Star-level season for the Portland Trail Blazers.

He is averaging 26.3 points, which ranks 13th in the NBA, to go along with 7.2 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. And on Wednesday night, as Avdija scored a season-high 41 points to help the Blazers edge the Houston Rockets 103-102, Moda Center fans rewarded him with MVP chants.

But the Rockets, understandably, weren’t feeling the love. They walked away with a bitter defeat after forward Tari Eason’s tip-in was waved off because video review showed it came just after the buzzer. What would have been a game-winner instead was nullified.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Houston Rockets preview: Kevin Durant is back (again)

Kevin Durant is back but a number of Nets might be out on Day 1 of 2026.

Happy New Year to you all. We hope and pray that everyone gets to accomplish all of their dreams and goals in the year of 2026.

On the first day of the new year, the Nets will be taking on the red hot Houston Rockets led of course by ex-Net Kevin Durant, who will be returning to the Barclays Center. I can only imagine the chants that this man will receive tonight. Brooklyn will look to get back in the winning column while the Rockets will look to win their fourth straight game.

Rockets vs. Nets Prediction, Odds and Best NBA Prop Bets for New Year’s Day

The Houston Rockets have rebounded from a little bit of a down stretch to win three games in a row, and they find themselves as road favorites on New Year’s Day against the Brooklyn Nets.

Brooklyn has just 10 wins this season, but it has won six of its last 10 games after a very slow start. Michael Porter Jr. is having a career year scoring the ball, and the Nets have been pretty frisky over the last month, ranking fifth in net rating over their last 10 games.

Houston is aiming to finish in the top three in the Western Conference, and Nikola Jokic’s injury in Denver has opened the door for Ime Udoka’s team to solidify a top spot over the next month.

Several important players are listed as questionable, with Rockets center Alperen Sengun and Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. drawing the most attention. Their availability could have a major impact on how this early 2026 matchup plays out, particularly in the frontcourt.

Houston enters the game with a total of seven names on the injury report. Sengun is listed as questionable with a left soleus strain after tweaking his calf, as he missed his last two games. Rockets vs. Kings Prediction, Odds and Best NBA Prop Bets for Sunday, Dec. 21

Both the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings played on Saturday night, and they will face off for the second time this month, this time on the second night of a back-to-back.

Back on Dec. 3, Houston dominated the Kings, winning 121-95 at home. Now, it’ll hit the road to play this Kings team that is now dead last in the Western Conference after losing five games in a row.

The Rockets are heavily favored in this matchup – and rightfully so – but can they cover?

Houston has played just two back-to-backs so far this season and has failed to cover in the second game of both of them. However, the Rockets are coming off a massive road win over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday while the Kings lost at home to the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Kings have lost 5 in a row following back-to-back losses against the Portland Trail Blazers, cementing their place among the worst teams in the NBA this season. Sacramento, at 6-22, are tied for the 2nd worst record in the NBA, and currently have a 52% chance at landing a top-4 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Right where they should be, despite the organizations best efforts to win games.

    Rockets' Steven Adams: Resting Sunday

Adams will rest Sunday against the Kings, Sam Warren of The Houston Chronicle reports.

Although Adams isn't on the injury report, he's going to miss the second leg of this back-to-back set for maintenance like he normally does. Clint Capela could soak up a handful of minutes with this news.

"Oh s**t, that actually happened" – Steven Adams admits he never expected to be drafted

Steven Adams has built quite a solid 12-year NBA career to date. It is something he initially thought would not happen, but he is proud that he was able to put everything together.

The big man from New Zealand was selected 12th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder after playing one season at the University of Pittsburgh. With the Panthers, he started in all 32 games he played, compiling averages of 7.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and two blocks while shooting 57.1% from the field, earning a spot on the Big East All-Rookie Team.

Speaking on "The Old Man and The Three" podcast along with Rockets teammate Reed Sheppard, 32-year-old Adams looked back at the night he was drafted in the NBA and shared what went through his mind.

The big man was sidelined on Wednesday due to an ankle injury, but he may be available to make his return to the lineup on Sunday and is officially questionable to play right now. His return would mean less work for Clint Capela moving forward.
