Using VAR to check corners will be an option for competitions from this summer, while the core VAR protocol has now been widened to cover second yellow cards and cards awarded to the wrong team.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB), which sets the laws of football, also approved a package of measures to counter tactics designed to disrupt the tempo of matches which come into effect this summer.

The successful introduction of the eight-second rule for goalkeepers has encouraged IFAB to go further on efforts to stop players slowing the game.

IFAB AGM: The end for long throws? New five-second time limit proposal on agenda as football's lawmakers set to meet

International Football Association Board (IFAB) to discuss rule changes at its AGM; VAR being able to intervene on second yellow cards expected to be "passed without much opposition"; new five-second rule for goal-kicks and throw-ins to be discussed

Football's lawmakers are expected to discuss the idea of a new five-second time limit for goal-kicks and throw-ins, which could put an end to the current long-throw trend in the Premier League.

They are also expected to increase the scope of VAR to include decisions on second yellow cards, when they meet in Wales on Saturday – with further proposals to crack down on time-wasting also on the agenda.

Biggest 'pain point' for Jetstar customers could soon be gone

It's something that likely leaves many travellers with anxiety – the sight of a pair of scales at an airline check in counter or boarding gate.

Now, Aussie low-cost airline Jetstar is in the process of reviewing its current carry-on baggage policy in the hopes of reducing some of the stress around that particular part of the travel experience.

"We're always looking for ways to make travel better for our customers and our people," a spokesperson confirmed to 9Travel.

"We know that weighing carry-on baggage can be a pain point for our customers," they said.

Jetstar announces review of carry-on baggage policy

Jetstar is reviewing its strict carry-on baggage policy in a bid to reduce airport stress and bring its rules more in line with customer expectations.

Jetstar has announced a review of its carry-on baggage policy, in a move that could bring welcome changes for travellers.

Currently, the airline's allowance stipulates that two items of luggage must have a combined weight of 7kg, at no added cost.

But passengers face being slapped with a fee if the limits are exceeded.

Ted Knight, the airline’s head of network and fleet, admitted that the current process is frustrating for customers and revealed bosses are reviewing the rules.

BALTIMORE — New England Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson exited Sunday night's 28-24 win against the Baltimore Ravens and was evaluated for a concussion following a 1-yard run in the second quarter.

The 5-foot-10, 202-pound Henderson was tackled by Ravens safety Alohi Gilman at the 7:06 mark of the quarter and spun around, with the back of his helmet contacting the ground. He was later ruled out with a head injury.

A speedy second-round pick out of Ohio State, Henderson entered Sunday leading the team with 773 rushing yards on 143 carries, with seven touchdowns. The injury left the Patriots with just five-year veteran Rhamondre Stevenson and seven-year veteran D'Ernest Johnson at running back.

TreVeyon Henderson among long list of Patriots injured in Sunday night battle with Ravens

BALTIMORE — The Patriots lost rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson to a head injury Sunday night against the Ravens, as the team’s depth continues to be tested down the final stretch of the regular season.

Henderson exited the come-from-behind, 28-24 victory in the second quarter, when he slammed his head into the turf after a tackle by Ravens safety Alohi Gilman. Henderson remained on the ground after the play, before athletic trainers and coach Mike Vrabel ran onto the field to check on him.

Henderson attempted to stand up but immediately sat back down. He eventually walked off the field slowly with little assistance and went straight into the medical tent on the sidelines. After a lengthy visit, he went to the locker room.

Sixers rule Maxey out for 1st time this season vs. Pacers

LeBron scored 12 of his 29 points in the 4th quarter to push the Lakers past the Sixers on Sunday night.

Tyrese Maxey won’t play the full 82 games for the 2025-26 Sixers.

The Sixers ruled Maxey out Friday night for their matchup with the Pacers because of an illness. Sixers head coach Nick Nurse said pregame that the sixth-year guard hadn’t been able to participate in the team’s activities during their mini-break the past several days.

Maxey was the only Sixer to play in all of the team’s first 23 games. He entered Friday averaging an NBA-high 39.9 minutes and ranked third in points per game with 31.5. Maxey’s also posted 7.2 assists, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 0.9 blocks per contest.

The Pacers have won four of their last six games to move to 6-18 on the season, including their first road victory in Chicago last Friday. Meanwhile, the 76ers fell to the Lakers after winning three straight and four of five.

The oddsmakers have the 76ers as home favorites at the best betting sites on Friday night.

Let’s take a look at the odds, players to watch and my prediction for Friday night’s NBA matchup.

76ers starting guard Tyrese Maxey has gone from probable to questionable on Friday morning’s injury report, opening the door even wider for Quentin Grimes. Even if Maxey does play, I like Grimes to stuff the stat sheet on Friday night.

76ers Finally Close To Full Strength With Joel Embiid, Paul George, And Tyrese Maxey Tracking Toward Return

The 76ers enter Friday’s matchup against the Pacers with a chance to field something close to their full roster. After a season filled with inconsistency, the team is finally trending toward better health as several key players move closer to returning.

Joel Embiid (knee) and Tyrese Maxey (illness) are listed as probable. Jared McCain (thumb) will be available, while Kelly Oubre Jr. (knee), Hunter Sallis (shoulder), and Trendon Watford (adductor) are all ruled out. Paul George is not listed on the report, suggesting he is expected to play.

Meanwhile, for the Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton (Achilles) remains out, along with Kam Jones (back), Aaron Nesmith (knee), Ben Sheppard (calf), and Obi Toppin (foot). Quenton Jackson (right hamstring) is listed as questionable.

The 'ESPN FC TV' crew debate if Cristiano Ronaldo deserved to be sent off in Portugal's 2-0 defeat against Ireland. (2:33)

Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso called on FIFA to change the qualification process for the World Cup after the four-time world champions were left needing a 9-0 victory against Norway on Sunday to avoid a place in the European playoffs for the third successive qualifying campaign.

The Azzurri claimed a sixth win in seven Group I games with a 2-0 victory against Moldova in Chisinau on Thursday, but with group leaders Norway sitting on top with seven straight wins — including a 3-0 victory against the Italians — their vastly superior goal difference means Italy must beat Stale Solbakken's side by nine clear goals in Milan to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

The facts on the African continent challenge Gattuso’s position, as teams have repeatedly proven they belong among football’s elite.

Rabat — Italian football legend Gennaro Gattuso has sparked outrage in the global football community after essentially blaming Africa for the fact that Italy did not directly qualify for the World Cup — comments many view as racist and dismissive of the continent’s growing football prowess.

The former AC Milan midfielder and current manager made the remarks during a recent interview, questioning FIFA’s qualification structure at a time when African football continues its upward trajectory on the world stage.
