Rush Hour 4 in the works at Paramount after reports of Trump intervening

Brett Ratner, accused of sexual misconduct by several women, will bring his hit franchise back to the big screen

Rush Hour 4 is reportedly a go at Paramount – after Donald Trump intervened on behalf of the movie.

The studio will now release the next sequel by Brett Ratner, the director, who had retreated from Hollywood after numerous allegations of sexual misconduct during the #MeToo movement.

Ratner had shopped the latest franchise entry, starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, around Hollywood for years without success. But then Trump lobbied for the film to his friend and backer Larry Ellison, the largest shareholder of the new Paramount Skydance – which, earlier this year, as Paramount Global, settled a lawsuit with Trump over a critical CBS News interview with the president.

Rush Hour 4 is in the works, reportedly following a request from US President Donald Trump.

The long-mooted instalment in the buddy-cop saga has Paramount on board to distribute the film – which comes more than 18 years after Rush Hour 3 – with Semafor reporting the studio came on board following conversations between the US leader and his friend and financial donor, the firm's owner Larry Ellison.

One of the few good things you can say about our decades-long relationship with Donald Trump is that he still knows how to surprise us. Expect him to tear into the upstart politician he’s branded a “communist lunatic”? He’s so charmed by New York’s mayor-elect that he starts doing Zohran Mamdani cosplay. Assume he has a basic understanding of what magnets are and how they work, since he’s graduated high school? Think again!
