Albanese and Taylor both said yes to Annabel Crabb, but one pollie is holding out

Lunch with the Prime Minister at the Lodge is one thing, but lunch cooked by the Prime Minister in his Canberra residence, especially and only for you, affords another level of bragging rights. After seven seasons of ABC’s foodie-politico interview program Kitchen Cabinet, Annabel Crabb can now claim those rights.

Stepping over the threshold of the Lodge for the first time in her 30-year career, Crabb wastes no time in getting to know more about Anthony Albanese, the man she has watched morph from a “left-wing bomb thrower” to, as he describes the current Labor Party, “a mainstream force in Australian politics”.

“To understand politicians, talk to them about the relationship they have with their parents.”

Across the 8 seasons Annabel Crabb has been making interview series Kitchen Cabinet for ABC, one of the common themes she has noticed is the influence of parents on politicians.

“This comes out really strongly in the Angus Taylor interview, and obviously the role of Anthony Albanese’s mother in his life is quite profound,” she says of her current interview subjects.

“But even with (Greens Senator) Mehreen Faruqi. The reason that she came to Australia was that her dad had studied here under the Colombo Plan and waxed lyrical about Australia, that she came here with her brand new husband and her baby son, knowing nobody here.

Kitchen Cabinet Review: Hats off to Annabel Crabb — she actually makes us LIKE politicians

Wait, did Annabel Crabb just reveal to the nation that our Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, might be a tad “neuro-spicy”?

The much-loved ABC political journalist is back with her cooking series, Kitchen Cabinet, and in the first episode, which sees her cooking in The Lodge kitchen with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese,’ she’s applying her considerable interviewing skills to tease some illuminating anecdotes from the PM.

Crabb has brought Wagon Wheels, a childhood favourite of the PMs (she thinks, though in reality he can’t stand them), for desert, and she’s in the kitchen as Albo whips up the first course, a plate of orecchiette pasta with broccolini, anchovies, garlic and chilli — it’s all very convivial.

In an Australian first interview with 60 Minutes, the 44-year-old revealed what he said to gunman Sajid Akram after he tackled him to the ground, and how he is still living with two bullets from the December 14 terror attack at Bondi lodged in his shoulder.

Japan ETFs said likely to trade by 2028 as SBI, Nomura ready products

Crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) could be listed in Japan in 2028, Nikkei reported Monday, without saying where it got the information.

The regulator, the Financial Services Agency (FSA), plans to allow cryptocurrencies as specified assets for ETFs under the Investment Trust Act, Nikkei said, adding that asset management experts estimated crypto ETFs in Japan could reach 1 trillion yen ($6.4 billion).

A 2028 debut is later than reported by Reuters in November. The news organization said the FSA was refining rule changes that would allow crypto trading services and ETFs to come into effect in 2026 or 2027 after approval by parliament.

The regulator did not respond to a CoinDesk request for confirmation sent after Tokyo office hours.

Japanese finance firm hits back against Bitcoin ETF timeline: ‘2028 is too late’

Japanese finance firms are unhappy with government plans to delay the approval of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds for two years.

The top financial markets agency says the timeline is necessary to ensure its crypto ETF ban lifts in tandem with new digital asset tax reforms that are due to go live in 2028, Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported.

But at least one of these securities players says Tokyo is failing to act fast enough to keep up with global trends.

“Lifting the ban in 2028 is too late,” Tomoya Asakura, CEO of SBI Global Asset Management, wrote on X. “We strongly urge the government to lift the ban sooner rather than later.”
