    Optus Stadium soccer game set to trigger CBD traffic frenzy

    Motorists are being warned of disturbances to usual routes on Tuesday night as the Women’s Asian Cup kicks off at Optus Stadium.

    The Matildas are set to take on China, with the game kicking off at 6pm, and gates opening at 4.30pm.

    Main Roads WA told locals to “expect heavy foot traffic and frequently stopping vehicles in the area,” and also warned of tow away zones.

    Rideshare services will be available on Sailani Avenue in East Perth.

    A strong crowd is expected at Tuesday night’s semi-final and the Matildas’ game on Friday night at HBF park.

    Sam Kerr penned a letter to Matilda’s fans on Monday, thanking them for their support over the tourament.

    THE PERFORMANCE | Every time we think we've got T.L. pinned, Sam Elliott shows us a new facet of the "Landman" patriarch, and we're captivated anew. Such was the case in Sunday's episode, during which Elliott briefly lifted some of his character's emotional armor and offered a peek at a yearning softness beneath.

    If you watched, you'll recall that T.L. was in a bad place, physically and mentally, at the top of the hour: He'd landed in the pool, and his chronic injuries had rendered him incapable of getting out by himself. When Tommy found him, submerged to his shoulders in the shallow end, the older man was at a real low. Elliot made the character's frustration unmistakable, oscillating between bemoaning the state of his body and tearfully predicting his eventual decline and death.

    Deputy Opposition Leader Sam Groth has announced his resignation from Victorian parliament and will not contest the November state election.

    Groth, who was elected in 2022, announced his decision on Monday morning, saying he made the call after “some very personal reflection” and conversations with his family.

    “The public pressure placed on my family in recent months has been significant and realising that some of it came from within my own party has been difficult to ignore,” Groth said.

    The Victorian deputy Liberal leader, Sam Groth, has announced he will resign from parliament at the November state election, citing internal division within his party and after a defamation battle with News Corp.

    The former professional tennis player issued a statement on Monday morning announcing his decision not to recontest the election. After a period of personal reflection and conversations with his wife, Brittany, over the summer break, he said he had informed the party’s leader, Jess Wilson, of his decision.

    “The public pressure placed on my family in recent months has been significant and realising that some of it came from within my own party has been difficult to ignore,” Groth said. “Coming to that realisation has forced some very personal reflection.
