Xi Jinping says Strait of Hormuz should be open in call with Saudi crown prince

Chinese leader says there must be an ‘immediate and comprehensive ceasefire’ and backs diplomatic solution to crisis

The Strait of Hormuz should remain open, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a phone call with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia on Monday, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

It was the first time the Chinese leader had called for the reopening of the strategically vital waterway, which has been repeatedly blockaded since US-Israeli strikes on Iran began on February 28.

“The Strait of Hormuz should remain open for normal passage, which aligns with the common interest of countries in the region and the international community,” Xi said in Monday’s call.

Xi Calls For Reopening Of Homruz And ‘Immediate Ceasefire’ In U.S.-Iran War

China’s President Xi Jinping on Monday called for an immediate ceasefire in the Iran War and said the Strait of Hormuz should be reopened for shipping traffic, in his first public remarks calling for the critical waterway to be opened just weeks before he is set to host President Donald Trump in Beijing.

Xi’s remarks were included in a readout of a call between him and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, released by Chinese State media.

Xi said the strait should “remain open for normal passage,” without singling out either Iran or the U.S. blockade.

The Chinese leader also added that his country wants an “immediate and comprehensive ceasefire” and is willing to support all diplomatic efforts to restore peace.

Star US comedian Dave Chappelle doesn't "feel guilty at all" about performing in Saudi Arabia.

The 52-year-old comedian faced backlash for performing at the Riyadh Comedy Festival in the Middle Eastern country – which has faced criticism for its human rights record – earlier this year but stressed he had no regrets about the show.

"These motherf***ers act like because I did a comedy festival in Saudi Arabia I somehow betrayed my principles …," he said in his new Netflix special Dave Chappelle: The Unstoppable.

Dave Chappelle Slams Bill Maher for Saudi Show Criticism: ‘F— That Guy’

Dave Chappelle went after Bill Maher in his new Netflix special, “The Unstoppable,” for criticizing his appearance at Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Comedy Festival.

“Recently in the news, I’ve been getting a lot of grief, again, because I did a comedy festival in Saudi Arabia,” Chappelle said to applause. “And you hear those cheers? That’s Black people. America’s whites, they’re furious. Boy, I gotta tell you something. I’ve never not felt guilty about something. I don’t feel guilty at all. And Bill Maher, the famous comedian, I’ve known Bill since I was like, 18, 19 years old, and I’ve never said this publicly, but fuck that guy. I’m so fucking tired of his little smug, cracker-ass commentary.”

Dave Chappelle criticzes Israel, eviscerates Bill Maher in new Netflix special: ‘F–k that guy’

Comedian Dave Chappelle spared a few moments in his latest Netflix special to hit out at Bill Maher for criticizing his appearance at a controversial comedy festival in Saudi Arabia — and criticized Israel along the way.

“Recently in the news, I’ve been getting a lot of grief, again, because I did a comedy festival in Saudi Arabia,” Chappelle said in his newly released special “The Unstoppable,” which debuted Dec. 19.

“Boy, I gotta tell you something. I’ve never not felt guilty about something. I don’t feel guilty at all,” he added.

Chappelle also took a swipe at Israel when he shot back at people who criticized the comedians in attendance for associating with the country after the government’s involvement in the brutal 2018 murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
