Tomas Alfredson’s ‘Seance On A Wet Afternoon’ begins filming in UK

Tomas Alfredson’s Seance On A Wet Afternoon, starring Rachel Weisz and Matthew Macfadyen, has begun filming in the UK.

Succession star Macfadyen joins the previously announced Weisz. The film follows a self-proclaimed medium who convinces her husband to kidnap the son of a wealthy family in an effort to legitimise her psychic abilities.

Seance On A Wet Afternoon is produced by Element Pictures and Astral Projection as part of the latter’s first-look and development deal with Fremantle. Film4 and Fremantle financed the film. Macfayden and Thorne are among the executive producers.

FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales, with UTA and CAA Media Finance repping domestic rights.

Matthew Macfadyen's 'unsettling' crime thriller from Adolescence creator is a must-watch

Are you looking for a new crime thriller to add to your watchlist? Production on Matthew Macfadyen and Rachel Weisz's new movie, Seance on a Wet Afternoon, is officially underway – and it sounds unmissable.

Adapted from Mark McShane's 1961 novel, the film has been written by Emmy Award-winner Jack Thorne (Adolescence, Enola Holmes) and is directed by BAFTA Award-winner Tomas Alfredson (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Let the Right One In).

The story follows a struggling psychic who convinces her husband to kidnap a child so she can "discover" the boy using her supposed abilities and prove her powers are real.

This new production marks a fresh big-screen take on the novel, which was previously adapted in 1964. That version starred Kim Stanley, Richard Attenborough, Nanette Newman, Mark Eden and Patrick Magee. Kim earned an Oscar nomination for her role as Myra, so all eyes will be on Rachel to see how she puts her own spin on the character. And with Jack Thorne behind the script, expect plenty of gripping twists and turns.
